The Other Side forums - suitable for mature readers! _ Introductions and where to find a guide _ Hi all you peeps!

Posted by: funky fairy Sep 1 2005, 03:13 PM

Hi anyone who will listen,

I am new on today so be kind to me please!!! I just typed daft into google and came up with this, cool!!!

This is a brill site, although I am finding my feet yet. I am a excessive talker so you will probably all get dead bored with me. Besides that I have an abnormal amount of time on my hands when I should be cleaning and cooking and stuff.

Hope to talk to you all again soon.

Welcome funky

I hope you enjoy your stay here at The Other Side, and after the 'initiation ceromonies, well... I'll just say spero nos familiares mansuros

Posted by: funky fairy Sep 1 2005, 03:56 PM

Initiation!!!!

Coooool!!! When?? Now??

Posted by: CheeseMoose Sep 1 2005, 03:58 PM

Hey, it's not my field, you have to wait for the others. They'll be along at some point. Although if you want a better initiation and are on IRC, come along to the Matazone channel at #burrito. The initiation you get there is ... different

I don't speak Latin I just know a few handy phrases, such as:

Sic friatur crustum dulce
- That's the way the cookie crumbles

Ecce! Fabae suaves!
Look! Jelly beans!

Alas gallinaceas de urbe bovis volo.
I want the Buffalo chicken wings.

Minutus cantorum, minutus balorum, minutus carborata descendum pantorum.
A little song, a little dance, a little seltzer down your pants.

Fac me cocleario vomere!
Gag me with a spoon!

and many more.

To get to the channel, follow Jaq's advice, taken from http://www.matazone.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=8198

QUOTE (Jaq)
you can download mIRC from their website http://www.mirc.com connect to irc2.othersideirc.net and then join the #burrito channel.

If that's too much trouble just follow http://searchirc.com/irc-burrito-1 and click on the burrito room name. A java based window will pop up and it will connect you to the same room. It's a bit more basic than your standard mIRC, but it works if you don't want to or can't download mIRC.

Happy hunting

Hmmm. I'm familier with a Funky phantom (Obligatory Seventies reference), but not a Funky Fairie. And, I hope you're using the 'Sixties definition of funky, and not the 'forties, or we'll have a serious talk about hygiene... laugh.gif

Welcome aboard...

Posted by: funky fairy Sep 2 2005, 12:04 PM

Thanks you guys, I feel so welcome now.

And as for the funky part,........ I just liked the name, I suppose its the 60's kind of funky! Whats the forties funky may I ask????

Welcome to Matazone.

I see you're already taped up. Did you know at member you're too post heavy to stay there?

*Ashbless slings a large pillow under FF as the tape breaks*

THUMP!

*feathers fill the air*

Gather 'round, Chillun' and let ol' grandma Quoth lay some heavy Jive on ya...
Once upon a time, when the word "Funk" first came into vogue, it stood for stench, pong, or B.O....pretty much a very bad smell... and usually associated with poor hygiene... I beleive that it was also a last name as well, as in "Funk and Wagnalls' encyclopedia" (Which was an oft used inside joke, on Rowan and Martin's laugh in... as in: "Put that in your Funk and Wagnall's"). Can you imagine being Mr. or Ms. Funk?

Over time, the word evolved a meaning like: "To be under a dark cloud". A very introspective, but bad, mood.

And, of course, Funky became, "Cool, down to earth, real."

(Remember in the song THriller, when Vincent Price was talking about "the funk of fourty thousand years"? that was pretty much a pun, as you could take it either way you pleased...).

And that there is th' real jive, turkeys... laugh.gif

Just an example of how a negative word can be used against a group of people, who then turn it around, and make a point of pride of it... Other examples:

Queer = Gay
Bitch = In your face, audacious female
Gritty = Rough, realistic
Nerd = Mathematically and computer literate

and on and on... even the 'n word', once the worst thing a white person could call a black person, is now commonly used within the black community...

In the case above, "Funk", as in filthy and smelly, was applied to beatniks and hippies, who took it as their own, changing the meaning from 'dirty' to 'down to earth' or 'Earthy', and then finally, 'Funky' came to mean 'with it' or 'cool'...

The soapbox now stands ready, for the next know-it-all... laugh.gif
