I'm growing a beard for the next week, possibly the next month. I've never had one before so it's going to be very odd. More info about why here: http://www.matazone.co.uk/blog/?p=336

Anyway, if there's anyone else who's never had a beard, do you fancy joining in with the beard experiment? We can all post pictures in a while of the before and after states. smile.gif

Posted by: Smiler Mar 31 2006, 08:17 AM

Hmmm, I had a close shave this morning, I'd be starting from scratch, I might join you on this one. I've tried for the goatee a couple of years back... ...which didn't really work, and would have to think of something to say but sounds like it could be fun.
...wonder what Ryn'd say wink.gif

Upside: Fun, challlenge, comparing progress pics biggrin.gif
Downside: I go ginger, Ryn points and laughs calling me Chewbacker, did I mention I'd go ginger?.?.. blink.gif

Aaaaargh, aaargh, aaaaaaaaaargh, aaaargh! My quiz night beardly supremacy is being challenged!

You may now continue.

Aah, how I wish I was able to grow beardy. Unfortunately my chin was not blessed with stubble. I may still join you on this though. Maybe by rubbing my chin a lot it will awaken the hair waiting to grow.

That's how I'll look all the time when I get my PhD. I think it's the law. I met a professor in the casting queue and he looked very much like that!

That's Freud isn't it?

I already reside in a goattee like state but i will now stop shaving my cheeks Give me a month and I will be more ZZ than Top, Mata the quest is joined smile.gif

Lmao! Yes it is the law! You need a pipe or a cigar too.

Yep, sure is.

I started growing/maintaining my goatee since Thanksgiving (Late November). It took three months to get any kind of substantial growth that was noticeable as a beard and not just scruff. >: }~ I don't plan to get rid of it anytime soon so I'll jump on the facial hair preservation boat. smile.gif

Posted by: Cath Mar 31 2006, 05:21 PM

I have a hair does that count?

Posted by: Mata Mar 31 2006, 05:56 PM

While women are welcome to join in, I suspect that for reasons of feminine aesthetics it might be best if they leave this to the men!

FP, I wouldn't have been able to grow a beard when I was twenty. I was a very late developer in that regard, which I liked because I didn't have to shave so often smile.gif

Posted by: I_am_the_best Mar 31 2006, 06:10 PM

What about if day by day I transferred a tiny piece of head hair from my head to my chin with superglue? I will have the bushiest beard of all!

Posted by: CheeseMoose Mar 31 2006, 06:28 PM

Whilst what is on my chin and face does not really qualify as a beard, it still causes complaints of scruffiness and also apparently annoyance when I sit and fiddle with it whilst I'm thinking. For these reasons I am compelled to shave it all off and I am out of this before it has begun.

Oh and Emma, if you want I'll send you mine to stick on your chin, your face is smaller than mine so you'd get a better coverage.

Posted by: moop Mar 31 2006, 06:37 PM

*fondles beard*

I'd join the experiment but I get the impression that'd involve starting again from scratch?

Posted by: Astarael Mar 31 2006, 06:50 PM

I'll watch for updates, but I couldn't grow a beard even if I tried really hard, given that I'm a girl with almost invisible blonde facial hair.

Posted by: Righteous Mar 31 2006, 06:57 PM

I've had a goatee on-and-off since I was sixteen and it's worked out well.

On two occasions, I had what my friends called a gnar lumberjack beard. I learned that there really are both ups and downs. For me, I liked how I got compliments and it really looked good (most dudes my age couldn't grow a descent beard to sake their lives). Unfortunately, though, it itched, my girlfriend didn't like it and it looks like Hell with makeup.

In any case, I hope yours works out, as opposed to looking like the chin growth of a thirteen-year-old (like my brother's) wink.gif tongue.gif

Posted by: {Gothic Angel} Mar 31 2006, 09:50 PM

Do stick on ones count? Cos, y'know, I think team estrogen could totally win this. tongue.gif

Posted by: devils_daughter Mar 31 2006, 10:12 PM

LOL..I get the feeling this experiemnt is going to make almost everone look hilarious! I'll join in by taking string, and glueing it to my face from now until the 29th of April. Can't keep it on til the 31st cause there's a concert on the 30th, and I don't want to make a complete idiot of myself. It'll be some good laughs in school though!

Posted by: candice Mar 31 2006, 10:20 PM

I'm going to leave beard growing to the guys, since I don't particularly want to glue anything to my face.

Team Estrogen could do what Froggy did last year and grow our pit hair. tongue.gif I don't think I could handle that, though. Legs, yes....armpits, no.

Posted by: Felander Mar 31 2006, 11:29 PM

Girls, if you want to grow a beard, just take some testosterone. Of course, the 'side-effects' may be slightly... un-temporary. And by that I mean permenant.

>.>

Posted by: devils_daughter Mar 31 2006, 11:58 PM

^I think I'll stick to glueing stuff to my face. Can we grow -glue- mustashes too?

Posted by: candice Apr 1 2006, 12:31 AM

No. You are hereby grounded from glue. tongue.gif

You can't "grow" anything by just sticking it onto your face.

I'm still trying to picture Mata with a beard, and failing miserably. I just can't imagine it!

Posted by: devils_daughter Apr 1 2006, 08:00 PM

sad.gif But I like glue. Pretty please can I not be grounded from my glue? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

One of my friends ripped of my "beard" today tongue.gif . Obviously people laugh and point when you have yarn glued to your face dry.gif . Oh well, it was pretty funny!

Please tell me you're joking.

How are the beards coming for those of you who can actually naturally grow hair on your chins?

Quiet beardy!

Posted by: Mata Apr 4 2006, 03:34 PM

Mine is at the 'really annoying itchy' phase. Sues complains about it everytime I kiss her, so I am having to develop new kissing techniques that involve less skin contact!

I have also discovered that the chances of me getting anything like a decent moustache covering are looking pretty slim. Butch manliness was never my strong point! There have been two interesting side-effects so far: the shadows under my eyes don't look so bad because of the darker lower half of my face, and my skin looks more pale for the same reason. It's quite odd.

Well, there's three or four days minimum left to go and so I hope I get through the itchy stage soon because it's really bugging me. I keep rubbing my chin and thinking 'I could do with a shave' before I realise I'm growing it on purpose! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Novander Apr 4 2006, 03:51 PM

Are you guys trying to keep it neat, or are you just letting it grow as it wants to? I stopped shaving for a few months when I started uni, because I lost my razor somewhere in the packing/unpacking and could not see the point in getting a new one. I ended up looking like the result of a fight between a big mess and something furry.

So please tell me you're trying to keep it neat.

Posted by: Mata Apr 4 2006, 04:15 PM

There's not enough grown to worry about that yet. I'll only have it for about a month and a half at most, so I doubt that it will really be an issue.

Posted by: WeeJ Apr 4 2006, 06:01 PM

Come on girls....times to grow a pant beard.

Sadly, no. Now I'm experimenting with different ways to "grow" beards. In art today, we had these oil passtell(dunno how its spelled) color things, and I finished my drawing early so I took a purple one, and drew a go tee and mustache on my face. I didn't know what it looked like until I got to math class(where there's actually a mirror!), and quickly decided to wash it off. laugh.gif

Posted by: Mata Apr 5 2006, 02:55 PM

The beard is progressing. It's not as itchy today, which is a definite good thing. This isn't really a very exciting update but I can't be bothered to get my camera out at the moment!

Posted by: bryden42 Apr 7 2006, 08:48 AM

I must fall by the wayside on this most noble quest to become hirsuit in the face, A job interview has reared it's ugly head and I must sell my soul (and my cheek stubble) to the corporate machine. Sorry Mata. smile.gif

Ryn's bugging me about the gingerness, but doesn't seem to mind to much, she wants me to keep it cos its buggin' out my flat mate wink.gif biggrin.gif
Its not overly itchy for me but I do look at it and fancy a shave.

The guys at work had just thought I was having a bad morning on Tuesday and then on Wednesday I had to make up a story about me doing it for charity for the hospital radio... heeheehee

Ryn'll be up on Saturday with her camera. I'll take a sanp shot tehn but cant see it lasting past Sunday to be honest wink.gif

Unless I hear in the next few hours that I've got a part then I will be merrily removing the beard tonight. Hurrah! It doesn't look too bad on me, but I'll be glad to be smooth-ish again.

Don't worry, there will be photos!

Fuzzy, hurry up and post that photo! *shakes fist*

Some of you on Facebook may or may not have seen the picture of Vic sporting both an attractive girl and a healthy looking beard - for that reason, and because the Beardmaster Admin himself is back, you gentlemen ought to have a clean-shaven race full of pictures and wonder. :D

Posted by: Mata May 21 2010, 12:49 PM

I briefly had a two week goatee recently. Laura got back from holiday and couldn't stand kissing me with the lights off - it felt like being unfaithful (!) - so I shaved it off again.

I find it slightly galling that my beard hair is going grey but I can still barely grow a moustache!

Posted by: Cath May 21 2010, 05:06 PM

Yes! We never got our pic's from that! tongue.gif

I'm really not convinced it suited me.

Posted by: Hobbes May 22 2010, 09:45 AM

I shaved my ever-so-slightly-longer-than-it-should-be facial stubble last night prior to an evening out, and left myself a goatee...

...for about 5 seconds. There was something frighteningly Ricky Gervais about it, and I just couldn't get past that.

So then I went down to just a moustache, but it reminded me too much of this self-absorbed guy I used to go to school with who has consistently sported a similar lip-warmer.

In the end, it all came off and I'm facially hairless again.

If it is any consolation, I have enough hair on the rest of my body for several beards... sad.gif

P.S. Had I not proofread, the above sentence would have been posted as, "for several bears..." which is probably just as accurate.
