When's this happening people?!? biggrin.gif

I can't believe I missed the one on the 4th July and I was even in bleedin' London that day too sad.gif

Can we arrange another one soon? Preferably in London again. Perhaps late September? I'm busy for most of October and until late November but happy to meet up after that too. Perhaps we could have an Xmas meet??? smile.gif

Posted by: Yannick Aug 21 2009, 03:33 PM

Hmm.. A bit out there, but what about a Christmas meet in Germany?

Posted by: Daria Aug 21 2009, 04:11 PM

I go back Uni in late September (Fresher's Week starts Sept 21st) which kind of counts me out smile.gif

(Will be to-ing and fro-ing for court, though _ )

Posted by: funked)out_frog Aug 21 2009, 04:26 PM

Friend is coming to the UK for a concert sometime in December, but I might be up for Germany (just emailing him to find out when the concert is). Never been there happy.gif

Otherwise London is always an okay, and I can offer space for plenty (tenting if needed). Im fine for where ever where ever really, so if y'all set a place and date I will come.

Posted by: Cath Aug 22 2009, 08:32 PM

Londons still out for me at the moment.

Posted by: funked)out_frog Aug 23 2009, 02:59 AM

Nottingham? I have a hankering for bangers and mash! Cath can make Notts?

Posted by: Cath Aug 23 2009, 03:24 PM

Would have to look into it around the date but is a smidge more do able.

Posted by: Daria Aug 23 2009, 03:55 PM

If we're to have something a wee bit later, like October, then I'd be up for coming biggrin.gif It takes forever to get anywhere from up here, so I'm happy to meet up anywhere- as long as I can stay somewhere wink.gif

Posted by: Mata Aug 23 2009, 04:28 PM

London's usually pretty easy for me, but I'm going to be pretty busy over the next few months. Work is likely to be needing me every hour I can spare and then I'm on holiday in mid-October for two weeks.

November will be fine I think (though I think I'll need the first week off to recover from the previous months). Sorry it's so far away Pixie.

The end of September is possible as long as we decide soon and I don't get anything else booked. Currently it's a rare weekend when I don't have something going on... It's weird... It's like I've actually got a social life!

Posted by: Faerieryn Aug 24 2009, 02:53 PM

I'd love to do a proper meet. One with a place to attack that we've not done much in before. I loved the Notts meets and the Liverpool meet cos they were new places. London is OK and I'm happy to do it but why not do something really cool like... a coastal meet????? Or maybe go to a place where none of us have been before and raid a cheap B&B for the weekend? I did Blackpool once- that was interesting, as was York. Late Sept is good for us hypothetically speaking, all depends on place, monies and dates

Posted by: Daria Aug 24 2009, 07:46 PM

Hahaha. You're all welcome to come stay at mine wink.gif

Posted by: funked)out_frog Aug 24 2009, 11:00 PM

Coast... ANOTHER COUNTRY! Get yer phrase books people!

I think I have enough trouble with regional accents without inflicting my very broken French on the natives.

... But a seaside trip sounds fun. Pixie's by the sea, and just down the line from Southend (an ideal spot for crazy golf, ocean, arcades, and dodgy tattoo parlours).

Posted by: Cath Aug 25 2009, 12:56 PM

If your going coastal I have one word WHITBY!!!!! innocent.gif But I would surgest avoiding the end of October for the sake of cheap staying places. tongue.gif

Just jokesin', kids. But I may be on that side of the ocean next summer, farmin', so...wait for me, Matazone!

Posted by: Faerieryn Aug 26 2009, 06:02 PM

Coastal is good. Fish and Chips in the freezing weather anyone!! Plus paddling before drinking hot chocolate is the best thing ever!!!!!!!!! I can't do Cath's birthday weekend as I'm running around Brighton dressed as a demon on Hallowe'en (check out the facebook pictures from last year people. 'Twas brilliant!) but end of September beginning of October might be good.

I've never been to Whitby...
Anyone up for the Dracula experience?

is there Lazer Quest there?

Last time I did that, I was drunk and locked out of my room. In no way were the owners happy with me the next day.

I maintain that there needs to be a Tunbridge Wells meet one summer. The parks! Oh the parks!

Posted by: Mata Aug 27 2009, 12:59 PM

I don't remember the Laser Quest chapter in the original Dracula novel...

I really should go along to a Whitby Goth Weekend someday. I've been loosely meaning to for many years but, y'know, I'm not a goth, I'm just a non-conformist. Nobody understands me! *sob* wink.gif

Posted by: Cath Aug 27 2009, 01:45 PM

My Birthday falls round the goth weekend/halloween so not a good plan anyhow if you want a cheap B&B (or flat etc). I'll let people know next time I can afford/ am intending to head up there for the Goth Weekend though. The spring one can be a little more fun if your thinking of heading to the Abbey for the night, not quite so bloody cold! and also a little quieter than the Halloween one. biggrin.gif I've actually been thinking of looking into the practicallities of setting up my business round there and living in Whitby once I qualifie.

But anyway this is driftting away from the topic so I shall stop.

Topic this way tongue.gif

Quite a few people seem interested in coming along to see this: http://www.steampunkmuseumexhibition.blogspot.com/

It's a steam punk exhibition that's running for a few months in Oxford. Yes, that's coveniently also my home town, but I figure that there will likely be a bunch of people visiting anyway, so why not turn it into a meet?

I'm still pretty much fully booked until the end of October, so it would have to be early November for me. Anyone interested?

Posted by: funked)out_frog Sep 1 2009, 11:03 PM

Why not?

Posted by: Ashbless Sep 2 2009, 02:01 AM

I second CANADA. biggrin.gif

Hallowe'en in Victoria we have a loverly zombie walk, it's on the sea shore, there are fish & chips & parks to be had. I offer my entire living room floor space to people just as soon as I move boxes off of it. It's perfect!

Er, no?

Sigh. *Tosses another 25 cents into the eventual trip to England fund.*

7th November I have an event so not sure about it. I'll check it out nearer the time

Posted by: Mata Sep 15 2009, 09:53 PM

Okay... So, how's the 14th of November?

To put it another way - everyone who's interested in coming along, put the weekends that you're free in November in this thread in the next five days and we'll see if we can get a consensus. I'm free all of them, with a possible exception of the first one, so:

Sat 31st October (probably)
7th November - available
14th - available
21st - available
28th - available
Sat 5th December (probably not)

Posted by: Cath Sep 16 2009, 12:40 PM

Available for any just need to figure out where the moneys going to come from. :s

Posted by: gerbilfromhell Sep 20 2009, 08:58 PM

!

I think I actually can go to this (well, assuming bureaucracy doesn't fail utterly...)! I've got a one-week break that ends that following Monday biggrin.gif I know I'm not around on the internets ever, but it would be really nifty to see everyone again. Anyone have a couch or floor?

Also apparently I can get a London-Berlin roundtrip for 30 Euro, which is spiffy and makes going much more possible, and I figure I can just walk from Moscow to Berlin, how far can it possibly be? Yay!

Posted by: WeeJ Sep 20 2009, 09:26 PM

Just throwing this out there....will probably go down like a lead balloon, but....

http://www.birminghamhippodrome.com/WhatsOn_focus.asp?showId=1614

Posted by: Cath Sep 21 2009, 12:49 PM

Well for the my balloons all floaty it's the lead bricks on the string which cause the problems.

Or in other words as much as I'd love to see Rocky Horror Live again I can only probably (and this wont be comfirmed to a bit closer either) afford one trip and I really want to see the Steam Punk exhibit as this is less likely to come around again.

Ah yes! I saw that on the news yesterday morning; it looks amazing!

It also reminded me that when I was little, I thought Quentin was a girl's name, and so assumed "Quentin Blake" was a woman. Equally stupid: I thought the Famous Five author was called Gnid ("Guh-nid") Blyton, because of the way the "E" of Enid looked in the handwritten form of her name on the cover.

Sam, yep, no problem.

That's the living room full now. If further space is needed then there's the kitchen, but it might be a little chilly because there's lots of glass and no curtains. Assuming it stays dry for long enough at some point then the grass should be mown, so we might be able to fit a tent out there too, but camping in November would probably be bloomin' freezing.

Right so what's the plan then? Usual meeting time of 1pm?? Can you give me directions to your place Mata. I think I'll drive. I'm not sure of the plan at the moment... Sues and I split up this morning. She's gone back to her parent's house and I'm not certain when/if she's coming back. I'll update here when I know more.

I suspect she's not going to be around here much, especially on weekends if at all, so I think everything can go ahead as planned, and frankly everyone's company will be welcome, but I'm sure you'll all understand that today will not going be in the records as my greatest of days.

Oh that totally sucks honey! sad.gif I just wanna drive down there now and give you a huge hug *huge hug*. So sorry. Yeh your not the only one with the urge to drive down Pixie. Hopefully we can give you a enjoyable weekend and cheer you up a little. If you want someone to chat with I'm usually lurking round on msn (way to much time on my hands).

Posted by: Mata Nov 8 2009, 06:46 PM

Thanks everyone (and to those of you who sent private PMs), it really is appreciated. I was mostly okay yesterday but I've been a bit more teary today. I'm so sad that it ended, but I'm also certain that I've done the right thing for both of us.

I'm lucky in that I live with one of my best friends and he's been a huge support. I do have a friendly listener nearby, but all of the offers are appreciated and I will no doubt bend your ears a bit when we meet up (but hopefully not too much). I'm really looking forward to seeing you all. It has been very comforting to have so many people writing when I've been feeling so mixed about this. *group hug*

I was seeing my family anyway this weekend, so I've been talking with them about my next step, the main thing will be to go looking for a new place to rent. Ho hum. I hate househunting, and that's when I'm in a good mood!

Posted by: Tarantio Nov 11 2009, 09:35 AM

Hey, sorry to hear about that Mata, hope a visit from the forumites can cheer you up a bit smile.gif

Also, couple of questions for people attending:
- Is anyone who's driving down/back going anywhere near Milton Keynes?
- Is there room on Mata's kitchen floor for a self-inflating matress with a Tara on it?

Been toying with the idea of coming to this one for a while, I should know later today as to whether I can afford it or not. Travel times/prices aren't particularly bad, worst of it is a 45 min wait in Birmingham on the way back and arriving in Milton Keynes (the closest coach stop to Oxford from Glasgow) at 05:20 on the Saturday.

Posted by: Cath Nov 11 2009, 11:14 AM

Could you get to Chester and if so by what time? (Milton Keynes add's a bit to much to an already long drive sorry. :s)

And as far as I know Mata's kitchen is still free for the taking.

Posted by: Tarantio Nov 11 2009, 11:53 AM

EDIT: scratch that, I had a momentary attack of the stupids, brought on by slight sleep deprivation. I can't attend on the 21st due to having arranged my own flatwarming party on the very same night. Phaile

Addendum: I must not double post, I must not double post, I must not pouble doast, I must not rubble toast...

The ones with moustashes were Steve and Steve from Mata's work and the other 2 were Natalie and Alex a couple of other freinds of Mata's. Natalie was on the forum as Roadkillgerbil a while back.

And not a good enough excuse!

Thanks guy's for a really good weekend I had a brilliant weekend it was good to see people again and meet others.

Conclusions drawn from the weekend were -

Were a forum of square pegs who have no great wish to fit into the round holes really. Oh and also a forum of tall males and short females.

Mata will go down in a blaze of glory in the Zombie Apocolypes unless we save him with the infinate money and put his brain in a robot. But unfortunatly if we had the infinate money it would be likly we were the ones to start the Zombie apocolypes in the first place.

And Mata thinks I'm scary! (You have NO idea...)

Great photos, Dave smile.gif Thanks for a superb Saturday. And thank you for your hospitality and pasta, Mata tongue.gif

Gutted I missed it sad.gif I'm still coughing up my lungs and generally feeling poorly. I spent most of Saturday and Sunday sneezing lots too so I wouldn't have been much company. I as considering just turning up but as the day wore on and my sneezing did not appear to want to stop I figured it would be best to stay home on the sofa. I am going stir crazy as the result as I've been like this for 2 weeks now. I NEED a get together. I 2nd Mata's comment about the 'next meet' smile.gif

I want to see more photos though smile.gif

Does anyone fancy meeting up in London for the day this weekend? Saturday or Sunday would do smile.gif Just would be nice to catch some of you that I missed *hugs* Failing that what about the weekend of 19th/20th December for some last minute Xmas cheer and shopping? smile.gif

This weekend... Possibly... I'm having a new peircing on Friday and I don't think I'm going to be much good at moving around for the days after. I'll see how it goes on Friday night!

The 19th/20th: the 19th sounds familiar, so I might be booked, but nothing's jumping out in my head yet. That's a stronger option.

Are you having your legs pierced together??? laugh.gif OK. Keep me posted. I would come to Oxford but I don't want to travel too much. Don't want to wear myself out again! smile.gif The 19th is a Saturday so it'd be 19th or 20th not 18th or 19th sorry smile.gif

Kept forgetting to ask about the peircing. biggrin.gif

I'll be in London on Sunday! Quite late, and getting in to Kings X. Anyone fancy a hug and a pint? Or will you all be gone by then?

Posted by: Mata Nov 25 2009, 01:39 PM

How late is 'quite late'?

For those interested in the piercing, highlight the text below for easier reading:

It's a surface piercing (dermal anchor to be specific) on my lower abdomen, a few inches lower than my waistline. I used to have an old-fashioned surface piercing there, so I hope that won't cause a problem. The old one was slowly growing out so I had to remove it, but I really liked it, and this new type of piercing should be better at staying in place. The last time I had one there I couldn't really bend my body much for the next day or two, so sitting on a bumpy coach wouldn't be a great idea, but the piercing will be smaller than last time because of the different method, so it might be okay. I really don't know yet!

Posted by: Pixiegoth Nov 25 2009, 03:31 PM

Hi all. Turns out there are no trains from Liverpool street that day to anywhere near where I live and it involves stupid rail replacements services, buses, etc. I'm not entirely confident these things will work so I'm not sure I'll even be able to get into London now. Grrrr dry.gif I'll have to think about other options. If I want to leave London the last train (from Fenchurch st) is around 9pm. Dagnammit! Anyone know a good place to stay in London as I need to be in London on Monday too smile.gif

Hm, I think that's too late for me, with another hour and a half journey afterwards. I'm more free in the weekends for the foreseeable future, so getting together soon in London for an evening is fine by me.

I was actually getting at meeting during the day for lunch and a mooch around London. My last train is at 9pm but what with engineering works it'd be easier for me to catch a train at 8pm. Is anyone still interested?

Posted by: Mata Nov 27 2009, 01:20 PM

I'll get back to you on that one. I've got pretty much zero money at the moment, but I should be able to afford a ticket and a bit of pub fud somewhere. The mobility issue might prevent it, though. Depending on how today goes, I might be asked to work this weekend too... But I'd like to come out! I think the movement thing is probably going to hamper the plan the most. If it's not possible then the 19th or 20th should be okay.

Anyone else?

Hello! I live in london!

If newcomers are allowed I may come along! Still just a maybe though, as I'm not sure what my weekend plans are yet... I'm doing something in the evening tomorrow but I should be free beforehand if this is a daytime thing. If it's later in december I probably won't come though as I'm going home for xmas around then.

Posted by: Mata Nov 27 2009, 07:18 PM

Movement is going okay. Work is still up in the air. Sunday lunch-ish is looking like a possibility smile.gif

Posted by: Witless Nov 28 2009, 01:56 PM

Wasn't sure until today, but I can probably make a sunday lunch tomorrow.

Posted by: Pixiegoth Nov 28 2009, 07:25 PM

Still not sure what's happening with trains but will check later and keep you posted smile.gif Where's best place to meet? I get into Fenchurch Street.

Posted by: Mata Nov 28 2009, 07:47 PM

I get in to Victoria (or Marble Arch is good for me too).

Dave, where's a good place to meet?

Work's not called me up to say that they'd like me in, so I reckon I'm in the clear.

How about one of these? http://www.beerintheevening.com/chains/chain.shtml/chain/12/ Dave, where's the most central of these? Or is there somewhere else you'd recommend?

Posted by: Lurker in the Dark Nov 28 2009, 08:42 PM

Theres the Champion just off Oxford Circus, The Jo(h)n Snow in Soho and the Yorkshire Grey up Great Portland Street. Plus a few on BitE that I've not been to. Champion is probably the most central though. Go one block north of Oxford Street and head towards TCR, it's on the left about 100yrds from Regent Street. Or indeed here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&source=hp&ie=UTF8&q=the+champion+pub+london&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=the+champion+pub&hnear=london&view=map&cid=13847433520065100722&ved=0CBUQpQY&ei=_ooRS7HJGabbjQfS3ajxDA&ll=51.517155,-0.137308&spn=0.008172,0.014141&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A

I can't join I'm afraid, I'll be sitting in the middle of the Thames freezing my fingers off. However if it's raining I'll drop someone a text.

Posted by: Mata Nov 28 2009, 10:49 PM

The Champion sounds good to me. Right, that'll do the trick.

So, I can probably get there around 1pm - timing on the coaches is a bit of a dark art, but that's what I'll aim for. Sam, reply on here to confirm that this is okay with you and I'll see you there.

Becky - sorry, I can't do a late night so I'll have to catch you some other time.

Now, this is contingent on not getting an urgent text from work saying 'aaaaaaaargh! The game will break without your attention!' but I'll let people know immediately if that happens.

Posted by: Pixiegoth Nov 29 2009, 12:55 AM

That SHOULD be ok for me but my train doesn't get to Fenchurch Street til 1.12pm and so I can't get to Oxford Circus til about 1.45ish. Is that ok? I could get earlier train but what with me having a late night I don't wanna get up too early. Also if I'm feeling too tired or poop 2mrw I won't come as the doc has told me to take it easy and the train journey might be too stressful with it taking almost 2 hours just to get to London sad.gif What time in the morning would you need to know by if I can't make it to avoa wasted journey?

Posted by: Witless Nov 29 2009, 06:14 AM

Sorry for the late (early morning) reply, I won't be able to make it until 2pm I am afraid.Hope that's ok? Will text you guys if you have vanished by then.

Posted by: Mata Nov 29 2009, 08:57 AM

2pm it is then smile.gif

I was thinking of leaving around 10:30, so no later than 10:15, preferably 10:00 please! To be honest, it's sounding like this might be pushing things for you today. Are you sure you don't want to leave it a few weeks?

Posted by: Mata Nov 29 2009, 09:57 AM

RAIN CHECK!

Okay, this is nothing to do with rain, but this is possibly the most important weekend of the year for my project at work, and Sam's still borderline healthy, so we've decided to postpone this.

Currently the 19th is the top date we're going for. My work will be more chilled, Sam will be healthier, I won't have such a sore bit of metal in my abdomen, and maybe even the trains will be better too. All around, that looks like a better day to go for.

Apologies for the lateness of reorganising this, 'hope it's not caused anyone any trouble.

I bleedin' wellhope so!!! dry.gif I've been paranoid about geting ill again ever since my 1st bout came back. The doc's are happy though so I have been told to 'take it easy'. How easy I don't know but Mata's right I think I don't know my own (lack of) strength and should rest up as I was running around like a loon last night at Quasar. Another day of rest (and perhaps choosing paint for my kitchen) is in order smile.gif

Hope that doesn't put anyone out too much? 19th is in my diary smile.gif I suggest we name it the MataXmasMeet laugh.gif

Posted by: Mata Nov 29 2009, 11:10 AM

I've sent Witless a text to make sure he knows. I don't have Lurker's number, but he hadn't confirmed anyway, so I'll let him know if he gets in touch.

We could see if we can get a few more people along on the 19th. I think Miss Smiley is a Londoner and was keen to meet up with the forum people. I'll drop her a PM during the week to let her know about this.

Posted by: Witless Nov 29 2009, 12:06 PM

19th it is then. Will have to wait a bit closer to the day to say if I'll be free 100% but I don't see any foreseeable problems for that day.

Posted by: Sir Psycho Sexy Nov 29 2009, 12:22 PM

Last Saturday before Christmas? I doubt I'll be able to have that off.

Posted by: Daria Dec 1 2009, 12:49 AM

SPS, would the 20th be any better?

Posted by: Sir Psycho Sexy Dec 5 2009, 09:19 PM

Sorry, I did mean to reply to this before. What with one thing and the other, I've not had a day off since last Sunday and I almost got to the stage of eat, sleep, work. Anywho, I've sort of been promoted, well actually promoted, for a bit, over Christmas which... where was I?

Oh yeah, I get the weekend of the 19th/20th off. So either is good for me...at the moment.

...sleep now...

Posted by: Mata Dec 6 2009, 09:23 AM

Yay! Right, Pixie, it's over to you, which day is better, the 19th or 20th?

Posted by: Daria Dec 7 2009, 08:57 AM

I'll be in London during the day on the 20th, although busy in the evening. Not to sway when it should be, jus' sayin' happy.gif

Posted by: funked)out_frog Dec 7 2009, 02:34 PM

19th or 20th, I think I can come.

Posted by: Lurker in the Dark Dec 7 2009, 06:16 PM

I'd prefer the 19th as I was planning to go home on the 20th

Posted by: Mata Dec 12 2009, 10:22 PM

Okay! Decision made!

Sunday 20th December - that's seven days time - the next meet is going to be in London. (Sorry Lurker, the Sunday was easier for more people.)

Victoria is always good for me, but I can get anywhere central.

Let's say 1pm.

The plan at the moment is mostly this - go to a pub, have food, chat for a few hours, maybe have more food, head off home.

Who's up for it?

Posted by: Lurker in the Dark Dec 13 2009, 04:35 PM

Oh well, excreta occurs...

See you on Sunday.

My mum is a subversive reprobate. So's yours. I think it runs in the family.

Personally, I'm impessed, it's not even Christmas yet and we're having heated family discussions. Now, end of thread hijack and on with the show!

Anyone who's coming, I've set up the confirmations thread, so stick your name down
