It's that time again! Time for you all to sign up to get a victim lucky Matazonian (chosen by Cath or me evil.gif) something special for around £5 (as of right now, that amounts to about $8 US).

The deadline to sign up is the 1st of December. To sign up, simply fill out the thingummy (hey! Firefox recognises thingummy as a valid word. Who knew?) at the bottom of this post with your own information, post it in this thread, and then PM me your address. You need to send a PM even if you think I already have your address (unless you're moop, of course). It makes it a lot easier for me to keep track of everything, and the odds of me actually finding an address sent to me a year ago are slim to none. tongue.gif

Victims will likely be assigned on the 1st, and I'm going to say the deadline for sending gifts should be the 10th, given that some will have to be sent internationally. There's some wiggle room on the deadline, but be sure to let your victim know if his/her gift will be late (you'll receive the sign-in info for the Secret Santa account when either Cath or myself PM you with your victim's name and address, and you can post in this thread under that username to ask questions, etc.).

Please don't participate if you think you might not be able to follow through. Sometimes things beyond your control can come up, which is perfectly understandable, but if you're going to flake, for the love of Pete, let us know as far in advance as you can, okay? Okay.

If you've participated in the past, Cath and I will need to know the names of your previous victims, so you don't get paired up with them again. If you don't remember who they were (this is the fourth year we're doing this, after all), you can find last year's thread http://www.matazone.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=15078&hl=secret+santa. It should have your victims from the first two years in your initial post, and buried somewhere in the thread will be the name of the person you had last year.

I think that's everything! PM Cath or myself if you have any questions/concerns/chocolate/praise that can't go in the thread.

So...

Name: Candice
Previous Victim(s): Ashbless, Cheesemoose, and Elphaba
Likes/Dislikes: The past few years I've just asked for something to amuse me, and it has yet to fail me. I hate anything banana or cherry flavoured, should Santa feel like sending me food. Oh, and I'm a vegetarian, though I don't know why you'd send me meat. Never hurts to be sure, though. I'd feel bad if I failed to mention it, and then opened the door to find the postman standing there with a side of beef or something. And then I'd wonder where you found a side of beef for £5, and it'd just be an awkward experience all round. My favourite animals are deer, my favourite colour is green, and I harbour fantasies about moving to some remote location to become a beekeeper/hermit. I'm not a big fan of knick-knacks, as a general rule. Looking back at this post, I think I can also add parentheses to my list of likes. Yeesh.

Name: Rebecca (TigerLily013 as nick will do)

Prev victims: None! First year this year I'm actually wanting AND able to participate!

Likes: Costume jewelry like mood rings that don't need to be adjusted to fit me (I'm a size 10/11ish in ring), I like boy's chains I can wear around my neck, I'm a sucker for crafts and sentimental creations someone took the time to think about lil' ol' me. Creations someone makes me can include computer made media files (music, wallpapers, video), stuff made of material like cloth, plastic, paper etc, you get the idea.

I collect virtual pets, and I also play World of Warcraft. I like Warlocks <3 Tis the first thing I leveled on there haha. I'm also enjoy things like cats, hello kitty, power rangers (old school please) and shiny things.

I don't know if food would be involved, however if it is something that'll travel well if it comes across the sea. Pocky or something box with low sodium is always a plus. Chocolate delights and other japanese treats are this lady's fancy. I also like a lot of gummy candies, and if they could be sugarfree that would be awesome, but if not no worries!

So Pretty much I like a lot of things lol.

Dislikes: Olives, Pepto Bismol or any food with sodium percentage of higher than 8%. I'm still working on the weight loss and main concern is keeping salt down. A lot in most cases as possible.

Also if sweets be sent to me, send an amount within reason since chocolate has a tendency to lower my will power to behave >_> lol.

Fresh food is tricky to send me as I'm in Canada. I'm not a big fan of the colour pink. I'm a biblioholic. Anything really. People have picked wonderful things in the past so I'm feeling pretty positive that whatever will be great.

This made me laugh, that you hate Pepto SO MUCH that you're ensuring that just in case anyone wanted to send you a gift that helps de-gas you they don't choose to send the pink stuff. Anything but that.

Of course the fact that made me laugh so much might partially be the sleep deprevation.

Funny thing is, it would be worse to send me olives than the Pepto because even on smell those things made me very ill. Pepto needs to be ingested to make me sick lol. But I digest (joking)! laugh.gif

I expect something semi whacky lol.

My boy CheeseMoose, I see you on my list this year of 2010. I noticed you are looking for things you seek like things of geek. Do you also by chance enjoy hand-made things you can wear? If so, what colours do you like the most?

Is there anything else on your mind this year Santa can send over to you?

My most-wonderful dearest snoo,

It has been brought to my attention that the elves have run into a snaffu...

Apparently, the company (British Mail would've been nicer) that they want to use to ship (no actual ship required) to you requires a telephonic number (with proper formatting) with which to reach you should there be an issue (explosion, plague, fuzzy kitty) with the delivery... (think armageddon)

So, if you would be so kind as to re-submit your properly formatted (ROT-13 is acceptable) address with telephonic number to the Santa Service coordinator(s) it would be much appreciated.

Posted by: snoo Dec 5 2010, 05:48 PM

Hello Santa,
I have sent a PM to the coordinator concerned so hopefully you will be in receipt of the relevant information shortly.

<3 in anticipation

For the Ever-Lovely and Magnanimous snoo,

I have acquired the appropriate information (bra size 45) and have filled out the shipment forms accordingly (blood quills and such are painful!)...

We here at the Santa Service (non-profit organization) would like to thank you for participating (and testing) and every elf would like to wish you a Merry Christmas! (Christmahanakwanzika)

Urban toys - this kind of thing - http://www.myplasticheart.com/ you can find them for pretty much dead on £5 if you go to the right places. Basically they're really nicely designed plastic toys, usually influenced by graphitti art styles.

My head is pretty sorted for winter wear at the moment and I don't really suit hats, but thanks for the thought - it does get very chilly over here so I recently got a black beanie hat. Even that, the most multi-purpose and universally suiting of hats doesn't work too well for me. It's actually pretty odd how few hats actually suit me!

Spicy nibbles or a collection of postcards from an interesting gallery would also be welcomed... Or anything else you fancy really!

Dear Tigerlily

Despite the fact that I told the elves to start work on your gift a week ago, they still have no word on when anything's actually going to happen. Probably due to the bloody unions, of course they've got to work extra hours at Christmas, it's the only time of the year they do any work! *ahem* anyway, the point is unless they can pull their fingers out and get cracking, it may be some time before you receive said gift. Terribly sorry.

Dear Naughty Spoon,

Although the elves were supposed to pick up the necessary items for your gift, they have yet to inform me that they have done so. At this time I am forced to assume it will not make it to you on time. As I am quite old I also will probably not be able to accurately get the present down your chimney at the speed I must move these days. How visible is your porch from 20,000 ft?

Dearest Elphaba,

It was wonderful to have your Christmas wishlist arrive here at the North Pole this year, and it certainly made up for the awful problems we've been having at Santa-camp: elf-and-safety inspections, no-eyed (rein)deer, polar bears covering their noses, hemespherically-confused penguins paying a visit, and a moose loose about my hoose. I even walked in on Mrs Claus blowing a seal...

...but I think the engine is up and running again now, so all is well.

Regardless, I did my best to meet all your requirements, and a gift is on its way to you.

Merry Christmas!

Moop my boy, we blew a gasket in the Santamobile and the elves are looking into repairs, but it's my belief that your gift will be a bit late this time around. Not to worry, you've been a very good boy this year!

Ho Ho Ho,

The last survivor of Santa's once proud force of spy vessels has limped back to harbor bearing news of the Dread Pirate Cath and her horde of swarthy buccaneers. Despite the carnage Santa has received a signed letter certifying that the Dread Pirate has been a good girl this year, although the signature appears to be a bullet hole in this case.

A sled full of our toughest elves and a decoy Santa has been armored up and dispatched bearing your gift. Santa's workshop begs for your mercy and hopes you afford it safe passage. They're expensive to salvage (all the armor makes them hell to raise) and the elves can take months to dry out!

Yours in fear,
Santa's Workshop

The elves have informed me that both parts of your present have left the gift containment center and should have arrived by now. Is this true or do I need to whip the elves again?

Sincerely,

HO HO HO, ASHBLESS! I'M BRIAN BLESSED SANTA CLAUS AND I AM HERE TO INFORM YOU THAT THE ELVES HAVE GOT YOUR GIFT ON ITS WAY. It's a bit strange, though, and we hope you like it. SANTA FINDS E-SLEIGH™ HARD, AND CLICKED ON THE WRONG ITEM. THERE MAY BE A SECOND ITEM ON ITS WAY TO COMPLIMENT THE FIRST.

Posted by: Ashbless Dec 13 2010, 06:58 PM

Weird sounds good. I like the sound of weird. biggrin.gif

Thanks Santa!

Posted by: Secret Santa Dec 13 2010, 07:00 PM

Ho ho ho!

MATA! Your gift is on its merry little way after some annoying mishaps at the post office. It's also running late due to the elves being audited for leaks! We were worried that *something* about the "location" of our China North Pole factories made its way into the hands of Julian Assange, but fear not we've confirmed that all suspected elves have been burned at the stake!

With barbecued love,
Santa

Ho Ho Ho! Let me see here... *adjusts tiny glasses* Aha! Candice, my dear lass! Not to worry, you've been a very good girl this year (except for that toad... but he had it coming), and will be receiving your present shortly! However, the elves are so enamored with it that it may take them a day longer to detach their grubby little paws from it. Hopefully it will still reach yours truly before Christmas!

Seasons greetings,
Santa

Dear Tigerlily

Despite the fact that I told the elves to start work on your gift a week ago, they still have no word on when anything's actually going to happen. Probably due to the bloody unions, of course they've got to work extra hours at Christmas, it's the only time of the year they do any work! *ahem* anyway, the point is unless they can pull their fingers out and get cracking, it may be some time before you receive said gift. Terribly sorry.

Santa

That's okay. For some reason I was thinking of the other day about this and had a feeling this may happen. I've been having crap luck with a few things since start of this year including technology and work politics. I'm pointing my finger at mother karma being moody lately unsure.gif Anyway I know you will try your best. I'm just glad I got all my stuff out early before December hit >_> lol.

Posted by: elphaba2 Dec 17 2010, 01:11 AM

Santa, I'm teary. That was too wonderful. I felt like a four-year old--the magic and mystery of Christmas right from the strange man walking up my stairs and cheerily handing it off (it was an oddly forward and strangely late-night postman) to the last tiny, tightly wrapped surprise. I think I got it all...

Wow. Thank you so much--the most wonderful, beautiful thing to receive. Completely gave me the guts to start making other people happy to the fullest extent I can. I really hope you don't mind if I share some of the things with people who I know would love them--the thoughtfulness with which you gave them is such an ENORMOUS gift in itself.

But I will have to keep the stunning maracas for myself.

Posted by: Secret Santa Dec 17 2010, 11:33 AM

Dearest Elphaba,

Everybody at Santa HQ is very pleased to hear that your gifts arrived safely, and that you enjoyed them so much. It was quite a task arranging to have that special late-night postman deliver, I can tell you!

The Christmas spirit certainly allows you to share presents around, and I am happy in the knowledge that you enjoyed your goodies so much smile.gif

Yo ho ho!

Has young master Hobbes been good this year? Then he shall have a treat! It's on its way, though I suspect the snow is deeper than the elves are tall, so that might cause some delays in their gadding about the countryside on their deliveries. Sorry about that.

I've very cunningly disguised myself through the present - you'll open it and swear that it's not from Santa but actually from someone on these forums... Like, really obviously from someone on these forums, but I assure you that it's really from me, Santa.

Also, I may be recruiting Santa's friend to give you an extra gift on Monday, if possible... OoooOOOoooo. Mysterious!

I got a pressie! More than one in fact, a combination of some bright red Canada mittens, a calendar with bunnies on it and some brightly coloured yarn necklaces. From the lovely Tigerlily smile.gif Thank you!

Here's a tip: You won't find the name on the box on Facebook, they're too old for that sort of thing!

Posted by: Phyllis Jan 5 2011, 08:54 PM

Bear in mind that quite a lot of Santa's helpers are in the UK, and we recently had quite a bit of snow (for here, anyway tongue.gif ). Everything pretty much shut down. When it did so in November, I didn't receive things I'd ordered on the 1st of December until almost Christmas. Give it a bit of time before you write it off as lost forever!

Also, I know who Mata's Santa was, but I'm not telling. tongue.gif

Posted by: Plasticine Hobbes Jan 5 2011, 10:21 PM

Goodness! Apart from the CHUFFING AWESOME comic-based present I received from my Secret Mata Santa (which, you obviously all saw here: http://comic.matazone.co.uk/2010/12/20/attractive-redhead/), I also received a further treat!

Weather that postmen don't like, bank holidays, being away for a few days, and off work for another couple, meant that I didn't collect this parcel the day that it arrived. But eventually this was in my grasp:

There was strange writing all over it, words that I could not understand. It was all dutch to me! With trepidation, I opened the box...

Packaging! And cardboard! And things! Some things! \o/

A pleasing festive scene, with sheep-based graffiti, providing me with a pun smile.gif

But, oh, what else?!

Ooh! A package of wonder! I rip through the wrapping to find...

I see a chocolate word! Without delay, I empty the contents and see...

Hmmm... tasty goodness!

And look how gooey they are inside! And, I feel, perhaps semi alcoholic.

Oh, time for the gratuitous shot:

Thanks Mata! <3

...

...

P.S. After the several attempts at taking that final shot, I discovered that I had chocolate-goo all over my hands, and down my t-shirt, and on my jeans, which I then put straight into the washing machine. So, it seems, if you want me naked, chocolate is the way to go...

Posted by: gothictheysay Jan 6 2011, 12:04 AM

I'm glad you enjoy it Candice smile.gif I almost wanted to keep it for myself. Also, I considered leaving my name off the customs form, but figured that would be a bad idea in case it needed to be returned or something. I don't know, I thought it would get there more successfully if I stuck at least my surname on it. But of course I'd give up and tell you anyway even if it was a secret, because I'm so proud of myself for that one tongue.gif

I'm assuming my present is from the UK and therefore approaching slowly. It might've also been shipped to my home address over my winter break, but I haven't heard anything about a package from me at home either, so we'll see.

Posted by: Ashbless Jan 6 2011, 03:57 AM

Thanks Santa!

My present arrived sometime but I only wander to check the mail about once a week. It's this cool card box. It looks old and will be perfect if ever I give up drug dealing to become a poker player.

Is there a story behind the gift? Is it something that caught your eye while wandering curio shops?

Thanks again person who's forum name I haven't figured out from his real name yet. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Daria Jan 6 2011, 12:31 PM

You won't figure it out from the name >_>
There should be a box and cards with dials on, right? It's a Bezique set only I'm crap at checking things and so it is missing the cards (which I planned on getting and sending but then I was all OH HEY MOVING HOUSE, OH HEY FRACTURED WRIST, OH HEY AT PARENTS' HAUS NAO so I never got round to sending any). You just need two packs of cards, but you don't use cards 2-6 (so just aces, kings, queens, jacks, tens, nines, eights, sevens).

Bezique is a card game for two players, very popular in the 20s and 30s and has a really weird and obscure set of rules that take a while to get used to. But when you figure out how to play it, it's great. I think the one you have is pretty old, but I can't remember how old off the top of my head.

Sorry for it being incomplete and a bit weird.

Posted by: Mata Jan 6 2011, 03:05 PM

Technically, the wrapping paper is for Sinter Klaas (5th December) not Christmas, but it had tiny cookie versions of Zwarte Piet on the paper so I decided to use it anyway smile.gif I'm glad you enjoyed them, and the chocolate porn image made me laugh.

Santa: No, I've not decorated them yet, I'm working on a full scale painting at the moment, but they're my next arty project after that. I think I'm going to try and cover them with a paisley pattern smile.gif

I.e.: "This advert is about as close as I come to meaningful interaction with other adults. Woman, 51. Not good at parties but tremendous breasts."

Thanks Candice smile.gif I'm sure hours of hilarity will ensue.

Speaker - I've queried the elves who were tasked with your present. However they've been into the brandy beans. All the could tell me was how loved I was. Good news but not the information I was after.

Has your present arrived?

Posted by: SPEAKERfortheLOST Jan 15 2011, 05:33 AM

Yes it has. a while ago now... I do apologize for not posting that sooner... Slipped my mind it did... probably due to it arriving the day before my friend's wedding...

In any case, I do so appreciate the randomosity of the gifts... The top that only spins one way is definitely my favorite.

I got home and in my stack of mail was my totally awesome Secret Santa gift! Thank you to my Secret Santa! I was highly amused with the note that accompanied this gift, and perhaps when I'm a bit rested I'll type it out to share the joy of the writing. biggrin.gif

In my gift was Marmite biggrin.gif, some fang floss (I fear Santa has heard about my dental issues) from Hoxton Street Monster Supplies, and a lovely set of goggles. I shall try the goggles on in the morning and sport a pic to be added later. For now, here's the layout.

The note that accompanied my present was quite entertaining so I am going to share what it said.

QUOTE
My Dear Lolo,

What a year it's been! Those elves have been nothing but trouble since they unionized. I try to tell them about all the boys and girls who depend upon their hard work each year, but they refuse to listen, spouting nonsense about how I should hire more workers and reduce their hours.

Hah! I wish! The north pole's not exactly teeming with capable employees you know, why do you think I hire those bozos? And international law makes it very difficult to smuggle in small children from eastern europe these days...

Nobody thinks about how poor Santa feels when we have to sacrifice the presents of a few orphans, just to meet time constraints, or when we fix the statistics a little bit, just so we get enough children on the 'naughty' list. Christmas used to be about the presents!

After the fines this year, it was a miracle we didn't have to cancel Christmas altogether. I had planned to have everything ready by late November, but now it's looking doubtful that we'll get everything posted in time. (Oh how I wish I hadn't lost those amazing flying reindeer playing poker!)

Anyway, I hope you will excuse the lateness of my gifts this year. Mary tried to persuade me to send you the standard hamper of socks and low-cost chocolate, but of course I wasn't have any of that! I said, "Laura deserves the very best dammit!" and I went down to the factory right there and then and started making them myself!

Enclosed you will find the finest fang floss, some black goop, and some equisite goggles to help you fit in on your upcoming trip to the UK. I only hope I got the right size, as my records are slightly out of date.

Best wishes and Merry Christmas!

Santa

xxx

P.S. Ho ho ho!

And here are the pics in the goggles (they might be a little tight, but they are still awesome!)
