I think she's getting married soon.

Edit: I thought she had, she posted somewhere in this thread already...

LEO! Holy crap batman it's been a while. Missed you! I feel like I have entered a weird forum time machine and entered the thread that time forgot. ph34r.gif Talk of marriage and spawn, I turn 32 this year.. I am waiting for my AARP card.

RAVE!!!!! Crikey blimey! How in blue blazes are ya, my dear?

I've no idea what an AARP card is but I get this distinct feeling I'm long overdue, were it not for the fact I don't live Stateside...

Jaq never really posted that much anyway, but her fellow Canadian Jicama was even less frequent. Probably too busy with her towel. Now if we could coax her back somehow, that'd be quite impressive!

ohmy.gif it's a Leo!

Yeah, I know I'm way late in reacting to Leo being around again, but I was busy MEETING SYUU IN REAL LIFE. Ha. Take that.

How do Cand! I was wondering when you'd get round to me. But meeting Syuu in real life is a fine excuse and as such I shall forgive your tardiness.

So how are you finding Derby? Better than I did, I hope - I went there once and got hopelessly stuck on the ring road trying to find my exit...

Derby is okay. It smells like the East Midlands and I live near a school full of children who think that my garden is their personal litter bin, but I'm happy. The roads seem to perplex a lot of out of town drivers, but since I refuse to learn how to drive I do not have that problem! biggrin.gif

The main purpose of my trip was to see my family, but meeting syuu was indeed worthwhile. You'll be happy to know that one of the first things she said when she called me to arrange to meet up was "Holy crap, Matazone has exploded since you've been gone. LEO IS BACK!" She was pretty excited.

I am good, stressed beyond belief with work and home life. My mom passed away a little over a year ago so I have been taking care of my dad. I know taking care of kids is hard, but taking care of a 85 year old WWII vet is insane. Try telling a man who parachuted into Normandy to eat his peas. It's brilliant I tell you, BRILLIANT. The rest of my life revolves around my Project Manager/Software Developer world (my company is going through a merger blah), along with a dog and a girl friend who refuses to leave me or kill me no matter how crappy I get... so I guess it is not all bad. How have you been? Missed seeing you around!

Oh and AARP, http://www.aarp.org/ - we are doomed to the geriatric ward. I

Oh and AARP, http://www.aarp.org/ - we are doomed to the geriatric ward. I

I'm good, thanks Rave. I think things are settling down a bit, but preparing to move house at some point. Although the preparations have still got to go through the non-too trivial aspects of getting a mortgage and actually finding a house. Meh, it'll keep for now. So basically I'm avoiding trying to do any work...

That AARP thing, looks a bit similar to SAGA, which I remember my grandparents using years ago to go on holiday. There's even an online community for older people. Silver surfers, very encouraging for my chosen profession biggrin.gif

I love it when war vets get grumpy like that. I can just imagine the conversation:

Rave: Eat your peas, Dad.
Raves' Dad: No!
R: Come on, Dad, you should eat them.
D: I fought Jerry so you could have the choice not to eat peas!
R: Oh, not that argument again...
D: And what do you do with that choice? Eat peas! Why did I bother?
R: Daaaad!
D: Did I tell you I nearly got my leg blown off by a land mine in Normandy? I didn't do that just to eat peas you know!
R: DAD! Just eat the damn peas!!
D: (under breath) Nazi...

I saw one old boy trying to cross the ring road in Huddersfield, at one of the mad busy junctions where three main roads intersect. At the top of a hill. And this old guy just went for it, against the pedestrian light. Now the Huddersfield ring road, for those that don't know, used to be the street equivalent of Silverstone (I guess the extra traffic now makes it slower than it was) and the people that drove on it believed themselves to be Michael Schumacher. Anyway, these young lads in a Ford Escort came barrelling up the hill, spotted him just in time and swerved to avoid him. He turned round and waved his stick at them, in the middle of the carriageway, and no doubt shouting something about being in the war. Unbelievable!

Crimminy, Mata, that all sounds a bit post-holocaust!

I'm more of the view that, by the time I'm old enough to be a nuisance*, the roads will be so clogged up it'll be a doddle to cross them. A bit like Tokyo. Not that I've ever been, but I believe the traffic has to be seen to be believed.

I'm of the view that my youngest will never need to pass a driving test, just a "sitting behind the wheel with the engine running" test.

* There are some who say I passed this age years ago.

that is about it... every time i say "you should really go to the doctor" he replies, "I didn't go to the medic when I got shot in the leg with a wooden bullet and I will be damned if I am going to the doctor with a cold!" Then he goes into a 30 min tirade about the war, walking up a hill with no shoes in a German winter and how Bush is a idiot cause he marched across Europe but we can't secure one country blah blah blah.. I finally give up and then he gripes about having a cold for the next week.

personally I want to be one of those old people who refuses to stop driving and buys one of those huge old all metal cars, like a 76 Buick so I can just plow through stuff.

That reminds me of that show, uhh, Rugrats? Yeah - the grandpa was always shouting 'and in my day, we walked FIFTEEN MILES barefoot in the snow to get to ____'

I think every generation grows old enough to feel that the new one(s) are lazy or spoiled or..well, whichever. Apparently in the 1800, the older folks used to write stuff about 'Our children are tyrants who tyrannize their parents and schoolteachers!' etc.

Yep, there were newpaper articles from Victorian times which could be summarised as saying 'kids these days have got no respect for their elders, and I'm sure we weren't that bad when we were their age.'

Leo: gridlock's not going to happen because that would mean that there would have to be enough fuel. Nope, it's road-warriors all the way in the future.

Good point. And the rate fuel is going up, it'll only be the wealthy who can afford to buy it. It's already getting financially untenable for me to drive to the office and I'm now seriously considering the train.

I was just passing through and saw this comment on the front... I was one of those n00bs...

This is bizarre to hear all these usernames referred to in the past tense as the last time I was around, they were prominant members... whoa, I think I may have missed a few years...

Yeah, I really have been away that long : guilty face : ^.^

In the years since I have been away, I've been not revising and under-achieving. Study leave is spent focusing mostly on the leave. So much the same, just two years older with different coloured hair - as always.

Good to see that teh forums are still buzzing as they always were.

Older and with different coloured hair. That's a good way to be. My hair is mostly the same colour except for a few tweaks of grey and there's less of it. Humbug.
