I was reading this book that says one in three people are introverted, and I just wanted to find out if this was so. Or is it just that the extroverts seem to make up the deficit, by the simple fact of being extroverted.
I by the way am introvert. -------------------- Please try to remember, when reading my posts, that I've probably not watched the same films & tv shows as you. I try not to watch music vids & I've also probably not even heard about them from other people. Wiki article on the matters
After a read-through of this, I seem to lean towards introversion more. I'm sure there is more to it than that, but it's nice seeing people taking an interest in psychology. |

After reading the Wiki article provided by Mutilation, I think I'd be considered an ambivert.
"The term ambivert was coined to denote people who fall more or less directly in the middle and exhibit tendencies of both groups. An ambivert is normally comfortable with groups and enjoys social interaction, but also relishes time alone and away from the crowd. Ambiverts tend to be moderate thinkers and weigh more than one side to an issue." Since that wasn't an option, I went with the extrovert because while I do focus a lot on ideas, feelings, etc., I do enjoy being with people in a social environment. -------------------- -Cerin

Introvert here (shock and horror).
Personally I think you'll find more introverts here than extroverts.. introverts tend to gravitate to mediums like the internet, penpals, and other subtler forms of communication. So.. yeah.. most likely get more introverts here than you would across a more random cross section of people. -------------------- "I'm an introvert, I think you're wonderful and I like you, but please now shush"

I think I'm mostly ambivert like FeralPolygot but I think I'm more inclined to introvert so I voted introvert.

I'm an introvert, and I agree with Witless when he says you'll probably get skewed results from an Internet forum because there will be a greater proportion of introverts.

Voting introvert, because although I spend most my time at _school_ around people and love it, when I leave school all I really want to do is be by myself doing something. Though nowadays I'm more comfy and welcoming twards company, so I'm probably more of an ambivert these days.
I also agree with Witless. I come here because I can have nice conversations with people and have fun, but feel free to leave at any time I want, which isnt very easy in the physical world. -------------------- Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things that escape those who dream by night

Interesting. I was under the impression that it wasn't possible to be 100% introverted with no extroverted traits at all, but that you had a leaning towards one or t'other, whether that leaning was strong or not. I also thought that different aspects of a person's personality were supposed to be goverened by the 2 different viewpoints.
That aside, assuming we have to pick a sort of "overall" trait, definately introvert. -------------------- Once opened consume within three days. Above post is not suitable for home freezing. Store in a cool, dry area. |

I'm okay with people (and have a tendency to start conversations with total strangers) but overall I'm an introvert. I'd much rather curl up with a good book, cup o' tea, sunbeam, and purring cat than go to a party, nightclub, or big social event.
I was invited to two things new year's eve. and instead opted to crawl into bed by 10:30pm. Such the wild woman. -------------------- |

I think I am more of an extrovert to be honest. Although, yes, as people have mentioned, it does depend. In a group situation, the more extroverted side of me appears and I become a loud, brash c*ck. On the flip side, when I'm on my own I am quite the introvert. But, on the whole I think I am more extroverted, most of the time.

I'm most definitely an introvert most of the time. I'm willing to talk to people and go out to be social, but I'm uncomfortable being around lots of people who want to talk with me for too long. It just gets stressful and overwhelming once it's more than ten or fifteen people all trying to carry on conversations because I can't figure out where to focus. DragonCon was fine for me because I could wander and was under no obligation to talk for too long. I would just have short conversations with total strangers and then drift off.

At the time of writing, the results are 21:4, which as someone else has mentioned, is even more interesting than the expected result. Maybe a similar thread on other forums would help find out the percentage of people who are introverted on internet forums.
Interesting indeed. |

I'm getting horrible little flashbacks to the Gollum/Smeagol conversation in the The Two Towers, that one where they kept shifting the camera. Smeagol was all shy and lonely, but Gollum talked with the hobbits a lot when he was planning things.

Extrovert, as I think I've said many a time before (wonders how many of these threads there are now).
I do enjoy time on my own and relish it. However, I *have* to have time socialising or I get antsy. Really, aggressively antsy, in fact. I'm a lot like little_bear in the sense that I do get very brash and mouthy. I suspect I get away with it more because I'm a girl. *shrug* I just like people. A room full of strangers would phase me for about half an hour before I just jump right in, introduce myself to everyone and then get on with making myself known. I like the sound of my own voice. A few years ago I would have said introvert, but I suspect I'm getting a lot better at functioning in group situations. I'm not sure if that's being an extrovert or just a performer, but I voted extrovert anyway. I spend most of my days by myself at the computer, which doesn't suggest extrovert, but then again I spend lots of time trying to promote my website, which does... Oh, I don't know. I don't know how likely this is myself, but I presume it could happen. No, it couldn't. The reason is that schizophrenia does not involve multiple personalities. That's a common misconception, because schizophrenics often have auditory hallucinations which cause them to hear voices. Multiple personalities are referred to as dissociative identity disorder. Popular culture often says things about schizophrenics having multiple identities..but that's just not the case and never has been. -------------------- I love you in a way that is mystical and eternal and illegal in 20 states.
