QUOTE Wrong. Drugs go way beyond the user. I live in quite a nice area, and yet my kids have found used needles lying around when they've been playing out. I really, really don't want them to be exposed to this sort of thing. As well as this, there's an almost constant run of burglaries in the area to help fund these people's habits. The knock-on effect is much bigger than you seem to think, Izzy. Are you sure that if you legalised drugs, the needles would be kept at home because people wouldn't fear being caught with them? Or maybe they would be less ashamed of taking them to a hospital or doctor's surgery to be disposed of? I wasn't going to go into the drugs argument, but I think that you should think more carefuly about it instead of coming to silly conclusions and stereotypes. As for cigarette butts: are you sure that it's not just the fact that they are small and smokers are selfish people who don't think that the ends of their cigarettes really do any damage or harm to the environment? Or if they do, that they just don't care- after all, they are supporting one of the most corrupt and influential industries, next to oil and pharmaceuticals. Same notion of "don't care" comes into those who litter with beer cans- and those who litter anything, come to that. -------------------- We are unraveling our navels so that we may ingest the sun. Are you sure that if you legalised drugs, the needles would be kept at home because people wouldn't fear being caught with them? Or maybe they would be less ashamed of taking them to a hospital or doctor's surgery to be disposed of? I never said that, Daria. I was pointing out the social impact of drug use. If drugs were legalised, I'd expect to find more of them on the floor or in my hedges. I wasn't going to go into the drugs argument, but I think that you should think more carefuly about it instead of coming to silly conclusions and stereotypes. And perhaps you would like to ask my reasons for drawing these conclusions, rather than just assuming I'm being silly and stereotypical? I don't want to get all haughty and quote rules at you, but please remember that the idea of this forum is to engage in discussion. Your statement is very closed and is only likely to cause offence. Luckily for you, I'm too long in the tooth to be offended so easily. Also, the irony of you jumping to a silly conclusion by accusing me of doing the same makes me laugh Anyway, this thread is supposed to be about incest. Ban me, then. I'm fed up of your high and mighty I Have Children So I Know Things attitude that you come to every discussion and arguement with. Every member of Matazone I have had the pleasure of discussion with comes to it on an even level- apart from your good self.
As for your last comment QUOTE Anyway, this thread is supposed to be about incest. Let's save the drug issue for another topic. I really kind of have to agree with Daria, Leo. You seem to think that the only reasons someone would have to support the legalisation of incest are 1) youth, and 2) lack of children. That may not be the case, but that's the impression your posts are giving. It is kind of frustrating -- and bear in mind that I'm on the same side of the argument as you. I still have problems with incest and/or hard drugs being legalised. I just think you're handling this debate rather poorly. Having kids doesn't make you a sage, and being older doesn't mean you can just dismiss the opinions of younger people as a product of their youth. It may well be that some of the pro-legalisation of incest folks will change their minds when they get older (and if they have children), but as none of us has a crystal ball it is rather condescending to do the Internet equivalent of patting them on the head and saying "You'll understand when you're older."
It's hard to convey tone with text, so it's quite probable that you didn't mean your posts the way Daria and I are reading them. I hope that none of what I said will offend you. I've "known" you online since before you had kids, and I respect you, but I just don't agree with the way you've handled yourself in this thread. -------------------- I love you in a way that is mystical and eternal and illegal in 20 states.

Hmm... I don't recall ever dismissing anyone's point of view outright, but perhaps what I wrote didn't come over as well as I'd wanted.
Anyway, I think everyone has probably sussed out now that I'm against the idea, so I won't burn any more energy or engender any more ill-will by carrying on. And I'm not going to ban you, Daria, because that would just be pathetic. -------------------- The author of this post is entirely fictional and is intended for entertainment purposes only. No apology necessary, Mat. I suspected your comments were intended to provoke some thought from my initial arguments (which hadn't come across all that well) and my responses were intended to be an explanation. Which didn't come over that well either. Sometimes I should just get off my soapbox!
It seems that some people feel my posts in this thread were a bit strong and not well worded. I appreciate that this was the case, and on re-reading it does come over a bit strong. However, this is me; when I get on the old soapbox, I do have a tendency to rant. I suspect this may have had an adverse affect on the thread and to those involved in it, and for that I apologise. However, there's one bit of this whole discussion which has been bothering me, and I'm having a spot of bother letting it lie: It started to get a bit personal, and yet being done in such a public manner. I'm not going to carry on the personal elements of my grievance here, as it's not the appropriate place for it. The parties in question will be receiving a PM from me shortly. Speaking as Leo the Moderator for a moment: This forum is for the discussion of issues and everyone's opinion is valid, regardless of their viewpoint. By all means disagree, but explain why, don't just dismiss them and don't resort to personal insults. If anyone does have a problem with someone else's behaviour, this ought to be taken offline. -------------------- The author of this post is entirely fictional and is intended for entertainment purposes only. Meh. I'm sick of theists and religions to be honest. Not the fault of this forum, so I shouldn't take it out here, but bleh.

Haha, yeah. Maybe because I thought all my attempts would have some sort of an impact on someone, by now. Oh well. Debater exhaust mode.

it is still bad in the Eye of everyone and to OUR GOD..! Which is why there was massive amounts of incest in the Bible, right? Also, which god? Allah, Yahweh, Muhammad, Zeus, Thor...? Are you taking cultural context and/or the need in ancient societies for a male heir to carry the name complicate our arguments into account here? The Bible speaks against incest, so I'm not quite sure where you're getting that one. Lot wasn't exactly held up as a paragon and the need for the wife whose-name-I-can't-remember to have a male heir for her dead husband was a result of a cultural tradition to provide for women who would otherwise be destitute and without children. If I didn't cover your particular example/s, feel free to bring it up. I'm not suggesting you need to follow the Bible as your frame of reference or to support moral stand points. Its just slowly started to drive me crazy when people quote examples, etc with little to no mention of the context that goes with said examples. Much like the problem with sound bytes, context -matters-. -------------------- Mr.Teapot is my e-daddy, Jaq is my e-sister and Vic is my e-husband! syuu is our e-daughter.
