I've had a cunning idea...

Years ago, I used to play a fair few role playing games, everything from good old Dungeons & Dragons, Vampire, Cyberpunk 2020 to Shadowrun... One player I knew invented a spell that turned bones to brandy (Funny and disturbing), and I had a bad habit of playing sneaky dark elves who were always laughing maniacally at inappropriate moments... And just recently have been hankering for a game!

So the purpose of this post is just to find out if anybody else has fond memories of swashbuckling adventures, trying to do an elven accent, and how you'd pronounce menzoberranzan, and then, maybe, seeing if there'd be enough interest for a Matazone online pbm game?

I'm a hardcore gamer. I have fond (and often very recent) memories of DnD, Shadowrun, Call of Cuthlhu, and WHeel of Time roleplaying games. As long as I have the rules I think I could make some time. smile.gif

I've had my fair share of PBeM RP'ing. Good stuff.

I have lots of spare time, though, and if someone else is willing to set it all up then I'd join.

Hehe! I played some interesting game myself useing Cyberpunk and Cyber Gen, Cuthlhu, Paladium and a system my friends put together them selves. I've been a toasted ranger (yay for Balrogs), a mutant techno bat who got mutated into a gaint cyco bat, and we even escaped a Cuthlhu plot with something resembling sanity by the group makeing some damn good rolls when we weren't surposed to. biggrin.gif

I do remember an imaginative party member, in a D&D game, realising that you could turn people into pretty much anything by casting Flesh to Stone, then Stone to Mud, then moulding them into whatever hideous shape you thought most amusing, then casting Mud to Stone and Stone to Flesh and watching the ensuing hilarity.

Right now I'm mostly playing games using the Marvel system, but I'm hankering for a superhero system with a few more rules - Marvel's very freeform, which I normally like, but sometimes I just want more system to play with.

I've had some experience w/ Table-top D&D (mostly 3.0 and 3.5) and I've LARPed the following (done by White-Wolf): Mage: The Ascension; Vampire: The Masquerade; Werewolf; The Apocalypse, and Changeling; The Dreaming.

I'd be up for an Online based RP. Just that it'd be up to someone to figure out how.

We started playing a game of Shadowrun last week, it's a dystopian cyberpunk game of sex.

Time for a lil' threadomancy...

Phew, I didn't realize how long ago it was that I first raised the idea, so a big sorry to alll those who actually might've wanted to take part... Real life issues and trials and tribulations meant that I couldn't get anything up and running.

I'd be happy to run a few games over t' internet, if there are still folks out there who would be interested.
I could run either a Star wars D20 (Thanks to Bryden42), or a Warhammer fantasy adventure (Low fantasy, grim and gritty).

If anyones still interested, let me know. smile.gif

I was going to point, shout 'GEEKS!' and run, but then I realised I'm a web-designer, computer animator, working for a games company, who runs a forum, so I'll just keep quiet. Nothing to see here, move along please (and join up with Matthew's game, obviously).

I've played D&D based games (a friend of mine's rather cool post apocalyptic storyline) over IRC before and it's worked well. I'm up for that if more people are.

[edit]Glargh! I've also been a web designer, work for a games company, as a coder, who codes in his spare time, for fun, is a UNIX user (don't mistake that with Linux tongue.gif), runs an IRC channel, plays boardgames and roleplays...I fear I've just made myself a target for Mata to call a geek[/edit]

I'm up for it. I've been using this program called OpenRPG to play online in a TT fashion. And so far I've liked it.

I don't have experience with either of those games, but I'm willing to take time to learn.

I just grabbed OpenRPG as well, funnily enough.

I'm still interested. Any d20 system is pretty easy to pick up, so that could be cool.

Thanks for the replies, I've heard good stuff about openRPG, gonna check it out once I've had some more caffine... tongue.gif

My cunning plan is to have a fairly small group of maybe four or five players, possibly using openRPG or Fantasy grounds (simillar to openrpg), or MSN, I've also spoken to Mata about using a space on the forum.

Both systems I've suggested are nice and easy, the advantage of Star wars is that most folks know what you mean when you mention stormtroopers or lightsabers! But, I'm open to suggestions once we've locked down who's playing, depending on peoples experience, availability, what they would like out of the game, etc...

My Initial thoughts are maybe once a week, on a weeknight, maybe two hours a game?

Thoughts, ideas, and suggestions are all welcome!

Edit: Seems fantasy grounds costs money... Poopy, so that's a no no!

I'm up for anything. As long as we all get to have fun. Otherwise, what's the point?

Exactly. I'm just hoping to run an accessible little game for anyone who wants it, with the main focus being having fun.
Nothing rules heavy, just a chance for a little light swashbuckling adventure here and there.

After checking out openRPG and others, I'm thinking keep it simple and just use, with Mata's kind permission, a home here in the creations section of the forum.

I'm good for anything, really.

Though at the moment I only have the DnD 3rd edition and Wheel of Time rulebooks. >.<

Well, I'm not gonna lie. All of my DnD books are in .pdf format that I've downloaded. And that's probably how I'll get the others for whichever game is decided.

The only two rule books I've access to at the moment are the Star wars/Warhammer ones.
If you're familliar with D&D 3.5, Star wars'll be a breeze. So to begin with that may be the best option, If thats ok?
I'll help with character generation, any questions etc, But like I say, if you know D&D, it'll all be familliar.

I am planning to pick up the D&D rules soonish, and, if this goes well, would be more than up for running a game.

Got the revised Star Wars corebook and I'm looking over it now. Have we decided what we're going with? Or should I pick up the Warhammer ones too?

I'm gonna PM a few forumites I think may be interested, just in case they've missed all this, to hopefully get a few more players...

Gonna stick with Star wars for the moment if there are no objections, at least to start with anyway.
Once we're up and running, if there's the demand, and everybody's enjoying it, I'll happily run whatever system/genre is the most popular with the players (Maybe even get to play a few games myself biggrin.gif ).
