Right...
I've decided to make a proper go of quitting smoking. I haven't had one since saturday, and I don't plan on having one. Furthermore, I'm trying to cut down my booze intake, so this could be fun... >_< All I ask for is support - and if anyone wants to quit too (anything - not just the smokes) post here, and we can offer each other support! *sigh* This is going to be hard... -------------------- the end is nice |

hurrah! and good luck!
my parents are also in the midst of quitting smoking. they're doing pretty well, and my mom has been smoking since she was 13 (she's i dunno 129382193 something now). if she can do it, then u can too!  i am also quitting something...food..lol. well, junk food, actually, not all food, that'd be bad. but yeah, i just don't feel healthy anymore. i am also quitting sitting on my butt all day...lol. anyway...yay for not polluting your lungs anymore!

Giving up smokin is hard, so it's prolly best not to make it worse by cuttin the alcyfrol at the same time... I gave up smokin 4 years ago an I can honestly say it's the best thing I ever did. Well, certainly one of em anyways! What I did in the end was have a jar, an I used to put me ciggy money into it. Seein all that cash not goin up in smoke (especially after a couple o months) is a big incentive to keep ya off them! After a few weeks I'd amassed enough to buy a DVD player! After a very successful campaign of Bullying, intimidation and random acts of violence I have recently coerced my favourite Turkish work-colleague into quitting smoking.
She has been unlit for just over 1 month now... She started by buying one the the many selfhelp books on the subject (just to collate everything she already knew and put some order into her efforts) Then she got me to but her a packet of the no nicotine no tobaco cigarettes (sounds odd but they do exist) Then she realised that these new smokes tasted and smelt really bad... Then she smoked them until she could bear it no more (and her mind had subconsciously made the link between bad taste and smell to smoking) Then she gave up... So far so good... If you want I can post the name title etc of the book she used, and the details of these new ciggies and where to but them from. -------------------- Politics is war without bloodshed, while war is politics with bloodshed... The only time I really need (and enjoy) a smoke is when I drink. Furthermore, I was drinking faaar too much in the not-too-distant past, so a good detox is in order... And thanks for the voice of experience - the jar idea is one that half-worked for me before. I think I may just buy a new album every coupla weeks - that'll keep me on the road to recovery...

kitten - those cigarettes sound odd... I can see how they would work, certainly.

I think you should! I quit at the same time as one of my RL buddies, but he let me down big time (an he still smokes today!) I tell him every chance I get...

hmm though u do live in california...so your lungs won't be that much less polluted....  jk i say go for it!!!some friends of mine from another forum went to Quit Smoking Diaries (i think that's the addy), and they said it helped them a whole bunch, so u guys might wanna try that.

 even if you just succeed in cutting the amount of cigs u smoke down to 1 or 2 a day, it's still a huge step in the right direction!
