No, I'm not listening to the Ting Tings, for a change tongue.gif

Thinking about the Chilis earlier on, I decided to plonk "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" on the player. Such a shame I don't have my turntable connected, I could play my vinyl version, which sounds so much nicer...

And as I recalled, it's far superior to anything they've pumped out in the last decade or so. Such a shame, because this album shows such promise - fusing the laid-back Californian style with some some serious arse-kicking rock to give something which is genuinely different. Then they go and get all Cali on us and churn out the same old relaxed guff time after time, becoming very formulaic in the process. Not so much red hot chili pepper as mild and creamy cheddar cheese; bland and inoffensive.

Go on, boys, put those tube socks back on your willies and give us more songs like "Suck My Kiss". Please!

I remember listening to Mother's Milk when I was about 14, and being in utter awe. It's still one of my favourite albums of aaaaaalllll time.

Today I have made a Happy Clappy Summery Tuney playlist, consisting of Chihiro, Propeller Heads, Regina Spektor, Little Barrie, Joy Division, The Beastie Boys, and a little bit of Sigur Rós. So far, I have washed and dried (in the sun) two loads of washing. Screw you, rainy songs!

I hope you get mugged by a crusty old hippy. tongue.gif

Seriously though, the lineup for Latitude urinates mightily on most other festivals this year. I'd love to go, so I am mightily jealous. Enjoy it for me!

'Slain By Elf' by Urusei Yatsura has just popped up on random. If I told you how much I loved this tune, I wouldn't have time to listen to it.

At this moment, there has been a discussion on what makes appropriate breakfast music. I suggested 'Breakfast In Love' by Corduroy - nice bit of bossa-flavoured chipperness. However, the man in charge has chosen, for reasons best known to himself, 'Smack My Bitch Up'. Utterly wrong, but it certainly gets the blood pumping in the morn.

I have a SLEW of MSI going - 'Never Wanted To Dance' and 'Stupid MF' being the repeat tracks. They suit my party-ish mood, despite it being three in the morning.

Ah, what better way to spend the first morning off than listening to Gedgian musings? I'm listening to Wedding Present's "George Best Plus", which is like the original "George Best" album with all the corking tracks thereon (such gems with great titles, like "What Did Your Last Servant Die Of?", "Everyone Thinks He Looks Daft", "Give My Love To Kevin" and "You Can't Moan, Can You?" ) but also includes other such goodness which only ever appeared on EP, such as "Why Are You Being So Reasonable Now?", the very French version "Pourquoi Es Tu Devenue Si Raisonnable?" and their better-than-the-Beatles version of "Getting Better".

Wedding Present listening is a fine way to spend your day, sir. I, however, have chosen to spend my time with Gruff and the boys - it's a Super Furry Animals day, starting with 'Rings Around The World'.

Work is really going to shit today, so I need this. Lift my spirits, my Welsh friends!

Lots and lots of VNV Nation - stompy electro-industrial-ish music with lyrics sung in a butch voice about war, love, and loss. It's all a good giggle really.

After ripping the last of my Boards Of Canada CDs to my comp, I decided to celebrate with an all-Boards playlist. Marvellous tunes all round.

All I need to do now is pick up 'Twoism' and the 'High Scores' EP, and I'll have all the readily-available stuff. This excites me more than I can say.

I love The Fall. Nothing more needs to be said.

Today, I have been listening to the new Sigur Rós album. It is awesome, and is sliiightly as though they are playing music that could have been made by The Arcade Fire.

A liking of the Fall happens to all people of taste. It's so inevitable that it's best to just lie down and let it happen.

I've got my copy of the new Sigur Ros, but I won't be listening to it til next week. Why? Because I'm building up a stack of tuneage to fill the two days that I'll be alone in the house. Thus far I also have the 'Rephlexions!' and 'That's Proper Folk' comps and the Crystal Castles album, with 'Stereotype A' by Cibo Matto and a comp called 'The Delivery Room' on the way too. I'm trying to resist buying more, but I think I may fold and get 'Can't Help' by Pulszar - the only thing they released that I don't own. Well, they only ever had three releases...

EDIT - That didn't take long. I bought it, and a copy of Camille's 'Le Fil'. I blame you for that, Daria...

I obey...

*uses Amazon link at bottom of page...*

Actually, perhaps another time. I want some decent time with the albums I have already, especially as I have some I've not listened to, and I'll be due a Rough Trade Album Club delivery soon-ish. Yays!

On another note, feel like trading home-made comps some time, Daria? We seem to have a lot in common musically, but I'm sure we could still teach each other a thing or two.

I've not been great at it myself in the past, but I've improved recently. If I make one now you may even have it by Christmas. Drop me a PM with your address and the kind of stuff you'd be interested in and I'll see what treats I can dredge up from the mire.

On another note, I was pleased to discover this morn that I'd forgotten ordering the soundtrack to 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?', my memory only being jogged when it arrived with 'Delivery Room'. That's another one for the pile next week.

We took Spoon to Rough Trade last night, and whilst there Wytu and I bought a couple five CDs. They are! Easy Star All-Stars "Dub Side Of The Moon" (already knew it was awesome); "This Is Louisiana" (a compilation of "swamp pop and cajun from the Bayou country"), "Dubstep Allstars: Vol.06" (a compilation of Dubstep/ techno mixed by Appleblim); Venetian Snares "Detrimentalist"; and last but not least, Benga- "Diary of an Afro Warrior".

Very tempted by the Dengue Fever new release, but had to stop ourselves at five.

'Dub Side Of The Moon' rocks arse. I used to love putting that on at Music Zone to annoy the old proggers. I adore the original too, but I'm no purist, and who doesn't enjoy a bit o' dub? Old proggers, that's who...

I'd love to actually visit Rough Trade one day. I'd probably need to remortgage first, though.

Daria! PM'd back.

Have done!
Yeah, we have a 5 CD limit because otherwise we will do what we once did in HMV and spent a leetle over £100. Ahh Wytu's student loan. How you shall be missed.

So, today has been introducing Spoon to dubstep, and Venetian Snares. And then some ragga and ska. Yay!

Wow. That's some no-holds-barred musical terrorism - the audio equivalent of a Marmite crumpet. I hope Spoon enjoyed, or at least the eventual musical death was swift.

I thought you didn't like dubstep, Daria? Or has Wytu been working a magical Burial spell on you in your sleep?

Spam aversion! I've been listening to the vids on my Facebook page - most especially Rodrigo Y Gabriella's cover of 'Orion'. Damn that woman can really abuse an acoustic...
