Guitar Hero.
Game of the year so far. By a studded-leather country mile, make no mistake. It's flipping brilliant. The controller is a bit platickly to the touch, but works beautifully, and is actually quite well designed from an ergonomics point of view. The presentation of the game is impeccable, from the tutorial finishing with the guy that explains how to play tailing off into some long winded story about how he had to stand in for Metallica down to the character models, loading screens and menu art. Absolute genius. If this doesn't sell out everywhere, it'll be a sin against gaming. I realise that technically I ought to have posted this in the Watchooplaying thread, but it's such a fantabulous game that it deserves it's own thread. *tiptoes away from forums and powers-up PS2* -------------------- Nearly two years in - about time for a new AV

The game costs £47.90 on amazon, for about double that price you could probably get a cheap guitar and amp >_>

It is being played in my living room as we speak. My friends seem to think it is the greatest thing ever made. I find it "ok", I only sort of wish I had not shelled out the 80$ for it. It really is a good game but I would suggest buying just the game on eBay and skipping the controller. It is not really designed properly as the buttons are too large and it makes it hard to really hit all the keys on certain songs. I will say that the ability to unlock underground bands is a really cool feature. I now have a new favorite song that I would have never found if I had not played this game.

I saw a guitar in Game today as I passed, with a sign saying "Throw your Air Guitar away". Would that have been it?

Maybe I just have a defective pinky and should just trade that one in. -------------------- Proud Cronie since Feb 26, 2003

To be fair, I've not got that far yet, but if you read the instructions, it does say that you'll have to move your hand once all 5 buttons are in play. Makes sense really - 5 buttons, and only 4 fingers. I'm aiming to spend the 4 day holiday weekend getting that far. I'm quite excited. -------------------- Nearly two years in - about time for a new AV

Right, I've just got to the Hard mode this morning, where all 5 fret buttons are in play. I have two things to say. Golly, and Ow. It's quitely madly hard, and requires utter concentration. In fact, if anything, it really reminds me of old-skool 2D bullet-hell shoot'em'ups where if you're not 110% in-the-zone, you have no hope. That said, I'm starting to get to grips with it - it's a wonderful moment when you stop thinking about what button to press, and start thinking about how to play that ntoe. If I keep this up, I'm going to have a left forearm that looks like it's sculpted from oak. -------------------- Nearly two years in - about time for a new AV

I've been playing through Black on hard and that is proving itself to be a great challenge too. It's do-able, but damn tricky and really fun. I almost feel I've got war-stories that I could share...
A well-balanced hard level is a rare thing to find. Black certainly has it, Guitar Hero sounds like it encourages that sort of devotion too. I remember when I beat the 'grand master' difficulty on the hardest tracks on F-Zero on the SNES. That was a proud moment of gaming for me. There aren't many games that I feel dedicated enough to to complete on the hard setting. I think it must be a tough challenge to make a game still rewarding while increasing the difficulty. -------------------- Trouble Down Pit: Still updated every Monday and Friday
