My girlfriend was born in Hungary and has lived in the States for three years. She speaks five languages: English, Romani, Russian, Spanish (though not fluently) and German. Romani is a combination of Russian, German and various languages spoken by regional Gypsies. Since English is her second language, she has to have her rights read to her in Romani. Her mom hates the wa English sounds, so whenever she calls, my girlfriend replies to everything she says in English. My girlfriend lives with her Romanian grandmother and her American dad. During day-to-day conversations, they use Romani, English and German. It's not uncommon for someone to say something in one language and someone else reply in another.
