Run a virus check Options

For the last few hours a group of hackers installed an Iframe hack onto the skin of these forums. The forums have been patched and the hacks removed, but this does mean that if you're running Internet Explorer then you should definitely run a virus/trojan sweep of your machine.

We've got the hackers details and are passing them on to the authorities. One of them was stupid enough to register using his own domain name's email address!

I remember the days when the point of hacking was to see what you could find, not destroy things. These kids get a script off the net and think they're so cool... Then again, these things are probably mostly based on three-steps-removed organised crime. There's big money in pushing advertising down people's throats. Hack their machine to show pop-ups all the time, or to send out thousands of emails, and you can charge a lot of money to the right people. So, I have no qualms about reporting them to US police.

I believe that hacking is covered by the US anti-terrorism laws these days. It's a bit extreme if you ask me, but a stay in Guantanamo is quite a persuasive deterent!

Thankfully the first time I visited the forujms today, F-Prot informed me that something odd was happening, so I ran a full check with f-prot, spybot and adaware, and it picked up the stuff from the forums. The strange thing is the original alert was not actually related to this, it was because it had found some java files that I had around that look like viruses.

It also found me in Opera. The antivirus program started immediately after I looked at Matazone this morning.

My roomate, who's computer it is , says "That was a neat trick."

I was running firefox and it downloaded to my machine. Luckily I have a great anti-virus program which caught it and deleted it immediately.

Edit : I was on my PC when this happened.

While this was true in the past, Mac's are growing in popularity enough that people are now bothering to make virus' for them. I love my Mac though, don't get me wrong, it's just thinking it is not ever going to get a virus because they don't exist, isn't going to hold true much longer.
