Everyone else's lives! I've been so continually surprised by the randomness and wonderfulness of other people's stories, and it's lovely. Guess what? YOU CAN NEVER KNOW WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN! Maybe you'll be twenty three and meet a dude and move to the country and change his babies' diapers. Maybe you'll be thirty and become a math teacher. Maybe you'll be twenty and get a job dropped in your lap making a database of thousand-year-old Arabic manuscripts.
maybe this is contradictory, but i'm also still amazed by the regularity of natural laws, I guess in spite of this phenomenal human randomness going on all the time. If I take a banana and mash it and add milk and flour and raisins and a bit of salt and pour it in a hot pan, I have pancakes. Always. Even if I'm all distracted and thinking about physics or thinking about Emotions, there are pancakes at the end. -------------------- can I kiss your dopamine? That's a reall weird way to make pancakes. Sounds yummy though. Cinnamon?

other than the milk?? Anyway, thanks for the recipe... will try it, as pancake day is almost upon us! Haha, oops. It's "soy beverage" isn't it, says so right on the carton. Milk = cowjuice = never in the dumpster. Expired soymilk on the other hand...! I am also still amazed by the fact that winter will end! Biketime! YAAARRRSS! (I guess I am just in general amazed by the weather. I think this makes me kind of a lower-grade moron, but that is OK.) And today I got amazed by politics--millions of people's lives can be affected by the attitude of one dude at a conference (we're discussing Camp David II at present, (and oh my god everyone is an ass.) What a terrifying prospect, though, that some dude's personality determines such huge questions. Why does anyone go into politics? -------------------- can I kiss your dopamine? Banana pancakes are pretty standard for Americans! They'd be thicker ones, I assume, rather than the crepe-y ones you get over here. We're always mixing stuff into our pancake batter. It's my favourite way to use up blueberries that look like they're about to get all mushy and gross (I can never bring myself to eat them plain when they get to that point...accidentally eating a mushy one makes me gag).
I'm frequently amazed by typing. I think the words, and they appear on the screen! How did I even learn how to do that? I remember learning, of course, but it seems like magic that I went from typing "dads fads sad" at a glacial pace to having my fingers fly over the keys without having to stop and remember where each letter is located. Sometimes I forget that I live in England. It sounds weird, since I'm surrounded by people with English accents, but I don't notice those now. Also, I live in a not-so-nice East Midlands city where the general approach to any historic buildings seems to be, "Let's knock it down and build a road there." After months of going about life, not thinking much about my location, I'll do something like walk along Friar Gate in the fog. It looks like one of the novels I used to read as a kid, come to life (my mental pictures of England at that time were pretty stereotypical). That's when it'll suddenly hit me: I live in a different country now. Never ceases to amaze me. -------------------- I love you in a way that is mystical and eternal and illegal in 20 states.

You've been here for years! It looks like I've got a lot of 'Wow! I live in the Netherlands!' left to go then: I do it at least once every couple of weeks. I was in Amsterdam on the weekend, walking along by the river Amstel, and it hit me again 'this is my country now!'. It's nice

Towards the end of a book I read recently (Robert Wiseman's 'Paranormality'), a rather good point was made concerning the desire of some individuals to find (i.e. invent) magical/spiritual/paranormal meaning in the world. I don't have the book to hand at the moment so I am forced to paraphrase, but it was something along the lines of:
"It is interesting to note how keen people are to create and believe in some pretend magic, in a world that is already full of natural wonder. Watch how excited people get at the idea of seeing something levitate; something floating up into the air. But why? Every day we live on a planet that is constantly doing something equally marvellous, that just happens to be the exact opposite. Gravity pulls us to earth, and yet rarely do we stop and marvel at it." Wiseman went on to say something like: "We should start to appreciate all the amazing things that already happen around us every day, but we take for granted, rather than desperately search for meaning and magic in things that don't exist." (i.e. talking about ghost-hunting, seances, etc.) I may edit later to use his actual words, and replace my poor version, but I really liked his point. And equally: GRAVITY! OMG! -------------------- |

*presses like button* <spam> Incidentally, I've often wondered whether it would be to the benefit or to the detriment of FaceBook communication to remove the "like" button from statuses and comments. Would it encourage people to write something? Or just to not bother at all? In other words, is the "like" button a way to express a positive opinion when you might not have made any effort to do so normally, or is it used as a lazy alternative to writing something? Increasing the chance of response, or reducing the quality of response? </spam> But thanks, though -------------------- |

Would I smile at that moment, so would I 'like' it? That's is probably why I spam with the 'like' button on FB so much. People often say: you really like a lot of stuff don't you? I always try to make an effort of writing something but that little button sometimes says more, or it says it in a better way (I am also pretty amazed by the like button effect, to make this comment less spam) -------------------- facebook.com/EleanorUmbra

I am amazed that over time people have discovered that drying and grinding things and then mixing them together with a combination of other things like milk and eggs and then placing in a heated source can create something nice to eat. I also find it amazing that now we don't even have to go to the hassle of harvesting, drying and grinding all ingredients we need, we can just buy them ready to go somewhere or even have things completely made. Also now that we can buy things ready made there are just so many people out there who don't even know how to combine things and create their own food. I've been on a bit of a cooking/wanting to cook kick. Can you tell? -------------------- ![]() Being Pimped By Aries Since 2003 |

I'm aways amazed by the human body. the heart pumps blood. The lungs exchange air. The kidneys/liver purifiy. the brain controls. so on, so forth. how did this system evolve? Trial and error. Or soeone made us up from cosmic dirt, if you prefer. Sorry, "GOD" bores me these days. how does bacteria change the taste of bovine lactations? (i know, vaguely, but its still mad how specific cheeses can e made!).
