QUOTE (Mata @ Sep 23 2007, 05:23 PM) *
QUOTE (Spacehappy @ Sep 21 2007, 03:55 PM) *
most coffee dealers will make you these by sitting down with you and doing lots and lots of taste tests

Hahaha! Now I've got an image of Kitty pulsing slightly after too much caffeine!

More seriously - get a good hot chocolate. For some reason, coffee shops often do really bad hot chocolate that's way more bitter than shop-bought stuff. Perhaps coffee drinkers like bitter things, but if you're buying hot choc in a coffee shop then you're probably not a coffee drinker anyway!

Which leads me onto the next point - do a reasonable selection of teas and non-coffee drinks. They usually don't have big machines, so they're easy to stock, and it gives non-coffee drinkers an option too.

Spacehappy is right - get something that sets your shop apart, special blends, extra caffeine, weird shaped sugar lumps... Always have something for customers to remember you by.

I may have the answer for you on this mata. Most coffee shops use steamed milk and a dark chocolate truffle syrup added to it, which is why it has that dark bitter taste. Personally I love the steamed chocolate milk way of doing things happy.gif

As for advice on a shop, my favorite and probably on of the best run places I've seen is a place called the bogani cafe.
Top reasons why I think it works
-Free trade coffee, besides being appealing to our generation I find the free trade coffee has a much fresher taste and a fantastic aroma.
-Fresh specialty teas (things like whole flower jasmine tea)
-a liquor license (to sell baileys, a small but nice variety of wines ect)
-Local artists are chosen to display/sell their artwork there every month. (free and interesting decor!)
-Fresh made rather healthy food, like Mozza, tomato, mushroom, spinach panini
-Jazz night once week (also local artist), combined as a fundraiser for 3rd world nations.
-And they always make everything look beautiful. Banana chocolate latte comes in a clear glass layered white, yellow, brown.

hmm I having a hard time deciding if mine are guilty pleasures or simply things I dont admit to other people... Either way here goes.

Taking a hot shower before I head to sleep (utterly pointless because I always end up showering in morning). Something I save for a really stressful day though because its such a waste of water just for that nice muscle relaxed sleep.

Those muffin mix things that you only have to add water to. I love fresh baked muffins, and only having to make 4 or 6 at a time is genius.

Watching a hockey or soccer (umm football?) game. This is the one I just dont admit to other people. They have a hard enough time accepting that I went to space camp without dealing with the fact that I turn out to not only be a geeky girl. But a geeky girl that likes to watch sports. I'm still working out just how the rules of soccer work though, its seems more pretending to be hurt to get a ball tossed in by your side. Cant see the total point of it, but it rates entertaining enough for me to get into.

Oh and I almost forgot the perfect calf hugging high black boot discovery. So hard to find but they make me so happy laugh.gif

I think that people who generally express an outward cheerfulness/friendliness find those who scowl or portray unhappiness just as strange. As a person I tend to be happy about 95% of the time and show it. I'm just one of those people who doesn't really care when things are going wrong (obviously some people think I'm a bit slow for not acknowledging mishaps as they come, but then they feel bad if they point it out laugh.gif can't pick on the stupid kid and all that).
Being in the service industry it almost scares me how many people can go out for dinner and be meaninglessly angry throughout the entire thing. I just really dont get it. Your out with your friends having lovely drinks and more then likely a wonderful dinner without going through much process to get it. So why not simply have fun?
There is also the idea of courtesy which I suppose is taught to each of us differently. Smiling when you answer someones question could be considered a way to show helpfulness without annoyance. All up to perception really.

Happy belated birthday!
Leather sofas = fun. Even when you slide off them. Very funny to watch.
Hows my "only talent needed is run around and smash things" game coming eh?

Come to think of it I guess I've havent been on here in a little while. Curse you World of Warcraft Burning Crusades. And curse them more for nerfing the rogues. By the end of my cursing I may just have my life back wink.gif

This may have been a topic before (If so I'm sorry).
I just started playing WOW about 3 days ago, but my god how fantastic it is. Probably the most addictive thing I have ever seen!
Any of you guys playing? Maybe you can give me some hints. I'm a rogue because it allows me to run around and bash thing while I don't know how to use my skills, but it looks like I'll be getting some cool traits as I get stronger. Not to mention the looting.
Although I'm not sure that I understand how they split up the lands. All of a sudden you go from fighting level 10 monsters to level 14 - 15?

I just saw The Prestige last night. Bloody good movie. I rarely saw the twists and turns that were coming. Including the sudden entrance of David Bowie in an actual role! He plays Nikola Tesla for those of you who want to keep an eye out, and he even holds his own as an actor in the movie.

As far as I can understand, people can send you voice messages, or record certain messages from other people to use (ie: "you have mail" could be a recoding that you use). So it wouldn't be the robot voice all the time. I'm hoping that since it's a such a cute design they'll pair a cute voice with it. Wont really know till I get it though. But it does seem as though they have put alot of programing in it to allow you to personalize you rabbit, so I don't see why they would leave voice out of customization.

Hmm I think you get alot of features even if your the only one with a rabbit. People can send messages to your rabbit from the website.
I thought it would be cool to upload my Japanese program to. I'm I could attempt to do loads of cool things with it.
I like the design, I think it's adorable. Especially when it's doing Tai-Chi.

I dunno if you need a password. If you do its lemonade.

*I'm the cowboy thats skin looks like ummm I dunno, what really really white skin looks like when flashed by a cheapish digital camera. It does make me ponder getting one of those airbrush tans. But I'd really just be kidding myself. An hour for a month of orange skin...

Thorn: Some dim wits decided to pull the fire alarm at 4 am. Because you know how funny pulling those things can be. Especially when you don't have to wake up early in the morning. Who cares about everyone else in the building that has to pack up their kids or animals and take them outside into -10 C weather.
Rose: These people are infact dim wits. Apparently they don't think those warnings about fines and ect that you got when you were in school were true. Infact they are true and have managed to reach a level of up to $5000 for falsely pulling one. Not to mention the one way ticket to eviction town they just earned themselves.

If it was muscular then you should have seen some improvement from the Ibprofuen (as it should have lessened the tension). Depending on how much you took ofcourse The joys of taking chem. pharmacology is that you learn to drug yourself up well enough to solve almost any cold or strain within one nights crazy sleep.
Possibly you should consider a deep tissue massage anyway. It couldn't hurt to take as much strain off your back as possible. Plus you'll get a nice few hours of knocked out dead sleep. Also good times for any injury. Unless it's a ripped muscle, then I "encourage" you to get the surgery or what ever they call it.
I hope you hear good news!

I had to work Halloween, but we all got to dress up laugh.gif
I was a sheriff. I think at last count I had 31 offers to surrender to me. Well I had 31 people ask me to handcuff them and take them to my prison ohmy.gif
Besides the handcuffs I also had a gun that made 3 real gun noises! (more like bad old western gun fight sounds) None the less, we had great fun all night long. I think the best costumes that I saw this year were the back alley abortion doctor, and Lex Luther(sp) /superman as one costume. Although I'm still debating as to wether the guy dressed up as a tampon box was funny.

Anyways if I can locate a picture taken of me last night then I'll post it. Or if at any point I am sober enough to get a picture this evening then I will try and get one of them. Hooray industry night for bar workers. Free booze of which the like you've never seen.

Don't go screwing up your computer's security on my behalf! I only get something like 50p per thousand pages views anyway; trust me, I'm not getting rich off the advertising!

I've had this lap top for about umm 4 to 5 months now and I just figured out what most of the security programs on here are. By my calculations this computer will either be thrown out the window or obsolete by the time I figure out how to do anything with them.
Hopefully this time I will have learnt my lesson about letting my father add "beneficial" programs to my computer (although as he buys me my computers I guess I can't do to much complaining). He seems to have put a bunch of business grade stuff on here. I even found a encryption program on here blink.gif
What I really need to do is figure out how to make it let me use my paypal.

Live in croydon (where I live a while) and you'll quickly come to understand my irrational hatred of that brand of shirts.
*Winces at all the shaved headed, fosters drinking, ben sherman wearing drunkerds that repeatedly set the area on fire every Europeon and World cup season*

Heres my advice to you:
Next world cup thing, go out lets say a month ahead of time and drench every ben sherman shirt you can find for sale in gasoline.
Come the cup you'll have solved the problem. By the end of it they will either not be wearing the shirt anymore or they will be dead and still not wearing the shirts anymore. Problem solved!
I know your thinking "but what if they wash it?" mostly likely as they are dim wits who light things on fire for no good reason, they won't have the comprehensive ability to properly care for their clothing. Or atleast a few of them won't, and those are the type that are so shocked that their on fire that they will run around in circles lighting all the rest on fire.

This seems a little more in depth then it needed to be.

I dunno... Our police here can be pretty hot and cold. Find you with a bit of weed and they could care less (plus I think you only get a fine now if your carrying under a certain amount). Yet if they come across a speed or meth. user it very much the opposite. Which I can understand to point as alot of the rising theft, mugging, and assault statistics have been blamed upon the rising use of these drugs.
Come hockey games when the riots began on Whyte ave they would stand back and chuckle, giving high fives to those who asked. Then they went hardcore lock down and people couldn't even walk on the streets of Whyte during or after the game. Again which I can understand. Broken windows, burning... lots of things. I think the breaking point was when the invented game of people hanging off cables some 20 feet in the air and having people on the street try to knock them off with beer cans caught on. Maybe we are just to rowdy a people to have such complete freedom. Well maybe only during play-off season... and Canada day.

This reminds of this British girl who was telling my friend a story about her flight here. She was going on and on about how all that she wanted on the flight over was a fag. Where as in Canada most would generally call a cigarette either a smoke or a dart. Anyways, my friend told her that this was a term that she should probably try not to use so often as it would be frowned upon here.

QUOTE
Whether or not I agree with you, I think that this is an unsubstantiated argument. Unless there are some sources that you can point us to, this is just as valid as me saying that dogs and cats get more pleasure out of the act of reproduction than from rubbing the front of their chests. I happen to agree with you and think that spaying/neutering is a good thing and I haven't seen psychological damage caused by it, but I don't know of any studies comparing the amount of pleasure that animals get from sex to the amount of pleasure they get from other things.

Perhaps this will help. I know theres a better U of A study on the subject but I'm having trouble with bear tracks at the moment, so this was the best I could do . Although it does contain alot of good information it doesn't go terribly in depth.
QUOTE
I know you think it's comparable to getting rid of one child if two don't get along but I really don't think it is. When I was seven one of our cats died and the other one really started moping. So to cheer up him and me we got a cat and two of her kittens. The first thing she did was attack him. He was about nine which is quite old for a cat and also really quite frail. We really did try to get them socialized but if we carried them into the same room she'd be struggling and spitting to get at him so in the end we took her back to the shelter and the woman who'd adopted her other kittens took her. We didn't want to take her back but we were afraid she might kill him and it wasn't fair on him as he had lived there longer. There wasn't any other option for us. Children usually don't try and kill each other if they don't get along.
I believe I already talked about misconception of equating a cat or dogs mentality of a new arival to that of a humans under the same conditions. Unless you have a very well socialized animal; likeliness is your going to encounter problems when introducing a new animal. Not because they "don't like each other" but because one is infringing upon the others territory, the other is in a brand new environment (and in your case also protecting her kittens), and they are determining each others dominance. This is why it is generally suggested the you section off the animals into two different rooms where they still have access to smell each other for atleast 4 days. Oh and with cats they should never be put in a raised position when trying to introduce new animals as an elevated status is a fighting position. Your right, children don't try and kill each other all the time. But the do often hurt/attack each other don't they.
I also happen to have first hand experience with this on a personal level. When I brought my 9 month old Cocker Spaniel home he exhibited very strange behavior for the breed. Cocker Spaniels have been specifically bred these days for their personality traits to be wonderful house pets. Yet my pup besides having about zero socialization also showed bouts of prey aggression (attempting to go after moving cars, joggers, cats, dog, bikes, pretty much anything that moved). I still had to introduce him to my cat. Now if a 1 year previously feral cat and a dog that shows its prey aggression can meld into their places in the pack then there must be hope for the majority of animals. I'm not saying what you did is wrong. I'm saying that people need to take more time understanding the choice that they are making, and educating themselves on the best and the worst of what can happen and how to deal with it.

QUOTE
Also you can get vets insurace (we have it) but not an insurance that covers training bills.
No aloting yourself a certain amount of money for training pays for training. Knowing that there are some unexpected expense associated with animal ownership pays for training. Pet insurance does not cover all expenses, although I do agree that it is a very wise investment especially if your pet is over 3 years old.
As training is normally something started at either 4 monthes old or a a few weeks after getting the pet and is sort of of a one time deal there really isn't any need for insurance. Although people should keep in mind that events like having a child or moving may require you to do additional training or re-do parts of the training.

QUOTE
Animals do get jealous of children. The cat I mentioned earlier got so jealous of me when I was born his hair fell out (and the vet said that was why). He followed my mum everywhere and used to try and push me off her lap and things and when small children came to the house he always did the same to them.

Are you sure the vet said it was specifically jealousy? I would find a vet making that statement very hard to believe. It is more likely that your vet associated it to the stress of you coming home, and the dramatic changes in your pets lifestyle. As for the pushing children off her lap you can read my previous post about dominance.

Robin Hood?! I need to get my BBC chanels back. I love Robin Hood. Watched a very fascinating documentry on the life and legends. Very interesting how they changed some obscure folk songs into the legend that is Robin Hood these days.

Hopefully it gets better, I will so go out and by the series.
