Hi Sophie, great to hear you enjoyed that book.

The fourth habit is interesting: 'Think Win-Win'. One way of putting this into action is to not use other people's forums to promote your own dubious essay writing company. This is exploiting my site for your own success. You should be thinking of the win-win for this situation. How can you make my visitors and yourself both win? How can you not be exploiting this site?

Personally, I'm reading 'In a glass darkly' by Sheridan Le Fanu. It's one of the first horror novels ever written, although it's more like a collection of short stories loosely strung together. I wanted to go back to see the roots of horror that have stood the test of time, because a lot of modern horror depends on the shock of gore rather than lasting psychological principles. We don't know if those will stand the test of time, but we know that Le Fanu's book did, so it's interesting to read. The language is very dated, but it's worth a look if you fancy seeing where modern horror grew from.

.... And this is why I keep this forum running smile.gif

Although I really should work out just how on Earth I can update the code running it!

Good to hear that it's cathartic coming here and rereading things. I don't ever want these posts to disappear, but I do need to get the forums backed up somehow.

In case anyone ever comes here any more, here are some things I'm doing now:

http://www.copperstonesea.com is my consultancy and training company giving specialist advice and workshops on narrative design and video game design. I also use it to publicise my public speaking, which I do rather a lot of around the world.

I'm writing a book about interface and interaction design for video games.

I was promoted to Professor of Creative and Entertainment Video Games at my university in the Netherlands... But that was two years ago, so not exactly recent news!

I'm working on a few new games, with one that I'm making mostly by myself. Whether any of those will be publicly available, I don't know, but it's a lot of fun to do.

With all of these things, sadly I had to let Trouble Down Pit slide from it's usual updates. I kept it running twice a week for eight years, so I think that's pretty good going!

I'm also engaged to be married biggrin.gif

If you're here, thanks for coming back, and I'd love to hear what you're up to smile.gif

Bruce Willis will actually die on another day other than the ones during the filming of the most recent Die Hard. Having seen the quality of the writing, he might wish he had already died.

(Only 49 to go Leo... It's so close...)

I've not caught up on the most recent season, but I've often enjoyed Supernatural over the years. It's always a reliable standby for when there's nothing much else that appeals.

We munched through DareDevil series 1 on Netflix in about four days. Very enjoyable overall, but I'm not particularly keen on the casting of Wilson Fisk - he just seems like a really sad man, not the powerhouse of brooding intimidation and fear that I would expect; however, I'm wondering if they've done this on purpose to give him some character growth in the second season.

It's difficult to keep old characters feeling fresh, I suspect.

I'm on the second season of The Following at the moment. It's a serial killer police series with Kevin Bacon. It's a bit overwrought at times, and it desperately wants to be 24 while never quite reaching that level, but it's good fun.

I know one tip for getting rid of images you don't want. Roughly summarised, it goes like this:

Imagine the scene vividly in your mind, visuals, full colour, sound, anything you can add...

Then turn it black and white...

Make the sound crackly, like it was record a hundred years ago...

Put scratches on it, like it's an old film projected onto a wall...

Turn down that sound, so it's just a rickety old silent movie...

Let the picture deteriorate...

Shrink the silent picture...

When that picture is just a tiny dot, begin to pull red velvet curtains across, like in a theatre...

Imagine the world of life around the theatre, life going on as the curtains get closer to the tiny dot...

Just before the curtains shut for good, you see the tiny dot fade away.

Sometimes I have to repeat this once a day with things that have been stuck in my mind for a long time, but personally I've found this has helped me a couple of times.

So...

Being angry with her for her innocence won't help, and it's good you are aware of that. Every day this goes further in the past for her. Make each new day better with her and leave that past behind - she has to do it (and sounds like she has to a large extent) so join her and try your best to live in the present. Make some new memories together, go and do new things, go on trips to new places, explore the world, and have fun.
