Welcome to everyone who's joined recently! It's a bit odd not seeing a heap of "Hi, I'm me!" threads in this forum.

That would be excellent. I just watched Grey Matter through a few times and liked it a lot, though I kept wincing near the end. You timed the ending perfectly; I felt extremely sorry for your mutilated and presumably bored protagonist, especially because he'll die of blood loss in a few minutes without anything to distract him.
I know what you mean about thinking of weird things late at night. Every time I stay up past two in the morning I start getting weird images of being mauled by stuffed animals or something equally strange, and the images come back the next time I'm tired.

I'm proud of New Jersey; I'd say that I hoped my state would follow suit, but (unfortunately) I wouldn't bet on it happening any time in the next twenty years at least without major upheaval.
It doesn't matter what it's called if the government is administering it; hand out the same rights and the rest will sort itself out. The point about the connotations of civil unions and marriages is good. Civil unions are strictly secular, so calling equally secular unions with more rights that are based more on affections "marriage" throws the word out of balance. I think there's too much history behind that word to change it until gay marriage is legalized; then there'll probably be a push, especially from religious leaders, to invent new words to cover the new area.

QUOTE (Mata @ Sep 28 2006, 02:55 AM) *
There's nothing that can make me leave a page faster than an ad that unexpectedly starts making noises at me.

I know; if I see a noisy ad on my first visit to a website, I never come back. Unfortunately, I've started getting loud ads in my Photobucket account but really don't want to relocate my pictures.

I really agree perfectly with all your reasons except for my usual one in several thousand nitpick for some of them. I tend to ask "what if something really improbable happened to make this a legitimate excuse?", but overall this is my view. Getting a pet is a committment to taking good care of them and trying to make sure that they have a nice life with you, not something casual like getting a new accessory.

I don't see a problem with it, and I also don't see how people marrying within their own race would limit genetic variety; there's actually more genetic diversity among individuals than between raced. Mixed-race people do tend to have stronger immune systems because (as Mata mentioned briefly) sometimes people's immune systems are different enough to provide the children with stronger protection and better immunites.
Mata and Ri's points about how race and culture are linked were interesting; I've seen a fair bit of that at school. A lot black guys at my school are really great once you talk to them one-on-one. Unfortunately, popular culture has them all trying to impress each other, and this tends to include a lot of swearing and threatening, which is sort of intimidating and not exactly an incentive to have the one-on-one talk at all. The culture is identified so deeply with the race sometimes that it's hard to look beyond the culture to the awesome people underneath. It's not pretty and it's not fair, but I can sort of see why it happens when parts of the culture seem to be somehow negative.

I like the style thus far, and the stories are definitely bent in the direction perfectly quirky. Interesting work!

I don't usually mind ads unless they make noise; the worst one I've ever seen was a "shoot the photgrapher" thing, and it had a loud shutter-click noise every two seconds. Your policy of keeping the ads unobtrusive is great.

Hollywood does warp people's persepctives, whether intentionally or not, partly because the writers make up stories according to formula. Several movies with the "wacky black sidekick" character type likely did well, so other writers picked up on it and it's now an accepted tool in the box of characters that will sell tickets. We also have things like (as LoLo said) the "funny/lazy fat woman," the "beer-swilling redneck (complete with accent)," the "beautiful and mostly brainless girlfriend," the "sinister-looking Asian villain," and so forth. When one or two successful movies contain something like that more or less because the cast selectors simply chose someone of a certain group because of the plot or because of their talents, the rest of the industry tries to absorb and copy as many useful film elements as they can. This means that they pull people (and write the script) to try to fill the success mold, and character types become shorthand for different things. Over time, that creates and reinforces stereotypes and expectations in the movies. It probably is damaging, but Hollywood writers are going to stick to form until the tired old characters stop selling tickets.

Long is good because it gives us plenty of plot points to pick apart and consider. I even sort of like the early style of animation for LGG, though it's easier to pay attention when there's some sound for keep the focus.

*shrugs* Mormonism does sound odd, but I'm mainly struck by the "Emperor's New Clothes" description of the holy book.

I'd put in pushy people who try to take over a group project because they think they can do everything better and faster, particularly when they're rude and condescending about it. Whether or not they actually could do it faster isn't the point- they've agreed to a group project and then want to yank all the fun out of it by harassing everyone and snatching things away before people can finish themselves.

That's right- I think that most of the problem was people starting absurd numbers of useless threads in Daft, with a frew problems in Issues.

*snickers* I remember finding out that a sort of geeky guy who'd been annoying me all year mastrubated... it was sort of surprising at the time, but then again it's not the sort of thing you really spend loads of time thinking about.
I don't, and happen to be not lying, but I can't vouch for anyone else, no matter how close.

Heh. I'm mature because I masturbate.

Word.

I really just didn't feel like explaining the concepts of "lesbians" and "mastrubating" and "why porn is entertaining"- her head would explode. She didn't even know what a whore was until a few months ago.
Mature, yes... but it's the way you're so frankly uninhibited that would likely scare her.

Val, your intelligence is precisely equal to the square root of the inverse of your age.
Devil's daughter, your foul stench can slay a noseless beggar at ten paces.
Dani- have fun leaving the thread... you gibbering, warthog-faced buffoon.
I need to sleep now... I'll pelt verbal dung at the rest of you tomorrow.
