I'm always anxious of making threads in the fear they'll crash and burn, but here goes...
We're getting a new puppy in a week. We're unable to think of fantabulous name for him, mainly because we got a puppy six months ago and we're all out of ideas. Ideas have ranged from the vaguely suitable ("Olly") to the obscene ("Snatch", "Flange"). I'm pushing 'Oscar' because it's the most fabulous name for a puppy, but my step-father won't let me name it after a gay person (don't ask...) So, ideas....? -------------------- Half Iago. Half Fu Manchu. All bastard.

Things to concider are what breed of dog it is...though, I would wait and see a bit of it's personality before naming it. Like if it turns out to be homicidal you could call 'em Johnny!

QUOTE Puppies like..you know...chesticles. Yesh. Those! 'Cause, y'know, the other types of puppies don't so much bounce, but go 'splat!'. Believe me. I've tried. Anyhoo. It's a Golden Retreiver. They're pretty much all the same - a bit stupid, always hungry, a bit destructive. Either that, or we bring them up really badly. QUOTE Name it Dog. QUOTE What was the dog named in that horribly cute Disney hunting dog befriends fox film? Mayhap that's suitable? Copper. But that might only work if the dog is... copper... colored lol The last puppy I had was Pavlov Oddis (Pav for short). He was a high strung ADD dog though, so the name doesn't say much about the pup. As for cats.. I call all cats "Cat". I don't know why, just impulse to de-individualize them -------------------- They ended up calling it Jinx, because while it was a friendly
sounding word, it still warned of its potential for disaster. And it was easier, at least among their circle of friends, to simply say "Jinx" when Sophie wasn't to be trusted around anything that could possibly be influenced by this particular trait of hers. --The Onion Girl |

The old classic is 'Deifer'... So you should probably avoid that.
'Einstein' has the reference to Back to the Future as well as the irony going for it (unless it turns out to be an intelligent golden retreiver... 'Schrödinger' has a certain irony to it too, and you might amuse physicists in the park. -------------------- Trouble Down Pit: Still updated every Monday and Friday

There's a Dean R. Koontz novel with a human-level intelligent gene-modified golden retriever but again the name of the dog escapes me.
Golden retriever's have the hyperlove of people going for them. Those dogs just seem to love the world and everyone in it. -------------------- |

QUOTE Obscene ones seem great until you lose the thing and are forced to wander around town calling it's name Y-e-e-e-e-s. A friend of mine had a dog called Boner. Suffice to say, the runaway dog situations were a little messy. QUOTE 'Schrödinger' has a certain irony to it too, and you might amuse physicists in the park. Ehehehe. I'm not sure how many physicists we have strolling around locally, but 'tis still a fab idea. Perhaps a little on the long side, though. Another aspect the puppy-naming has to keep in mind is that we tend to put w's at the beginning of names. 'Midge' is 'Widge' or 'Widget', 'Tabby' is 'Wabby', 'Stevie' was 'Wee'. Chester (our last golden retriever) was always 'Wessy'. Currently, our 7 month old retriever remains 'Monty'. Or 'Oi-Stop-Doing-That-You-Little-Sh*t'. -------------------- Half Iago. Half Fu Manchu. All bastard.

QUOTE Any pet should be called 'Tricks', because when people see you they say "How's tricks?" (least round here they do) and you can say "Sniffing your arse" or whatever the dog happens to be doing Now, that, is a wicked idea. I could have hours of fun with that. I've suggested 'God'. I suggest 'God' for every pet name, because I'm unimaginative. And then, when he goes missing, once you find him again you can look all smug and go 'I've found God'. I think people will eventually have to deal with the fact that I'm either going to call a pet 'God', or that's the name of my first born. -------------------- Half Iago. Half Fu Manchu. All bastard.

Any closer to choosing yet hun?
I suggested the name Kiss-Kiss for my sister's cat, and she took me up on it. I though of it after the radio station Kiss 100, I just thought Kiss- Kiss sounded cute. Anyways, mebe you could name the dog after a radio station? Of couse I understand that you may not want your dog to be called Radio One, or Capital Gold :§ Or, you could name the dog after a hated politician, 'Come Bushy, din-dins'. And then name you children after liked ones, like erm... *fails to think of an example*. Mata, tehee *tehee's* -------------------- A society that takes itself too seriously risks bottling up its tensions and treating every example of irreverence as a threat to its existence.
