Because when I am, I write villanelles about Dread Cthulhu. And nobody needs that.
That is not dead which can eternal lie It rises! Hark! It rises from the deep! And with strange aeons even death may die A blood-red moon lurks above the sky! Maddened hounds scamper through the street! That is not dead which can eternal lie. From shadows do we hear a bestial cry! Dark miasma creeps up from the ‘neath! And with strange aeons even death may die. Glimpsed in mirrors, one single blood-red eye Thoughts of murder haunt us in our sleep! That is not dead which can eternal lie. Heaven’s mercy mocked and made a lie! From foul Innsmouth eerie creatures creep! And with strange aeons even death may die. The clever and the wise sought just to die, We bold and stupid no such reward will reap. That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die. My first villanelle! Though I took some liberties with the rhyme scheme. I think that my first attempt at every poetry form should be a Mythos poem. They're great fun. -------------------- Every sort of expert knowledge and every inquiry, and similarly every action and undertaking, seems to seek some good. Because of that, people are right to affirm that the good is 'that which all things seek'...

I read that while listening to "Believe it or Not" by Joe Scarburry (theme song to the 80s sitcom The Greatest American Hero) and Israiel Kamakawiwo'ole's "Somewhere over a lullaby" at four AM.
