It's painfully obvious Excedrin can't come up with an ad campaign...anyone seen their ads lately? dry.gif

But I must say, I am taken with anything that uses something adorable like a cute puppy to sell a product. I am such a sucker for those. tongue.gif

QUOTE (Industrial Kybosh @ Apr 9 2004, 01:56 AM)
Dear Mr. Advertiser,

Please stop showing footage of children on the toilet (viz. Kandoo), as we do not need to see it.

Oooh, that reminded me. Those ads for Charmin (luxury toilet paper), with fuzzy bears going to the toilet, then reaching for the Charmin, then they relax with this look of utter bliss on their faces...it's really quite disturbing. Though it does answer the eternal if rhetorical question about the defecatory habits of the sylvan ursines.

What gets me is all the mothers in nappy advertisments continually slapping their baby's behinds or rubbing their faces against them over and over and over.

QUOTE (Snugglebum_ and_moop)
... car credit adverts...

..... and those bloody insurance ads on UK tv ... Oh boy ... About a million years back I had access to satellite TV, and would have to watch this 'no-nonsense' type 'man-on-the-street' git ranting in short sentences about how Bob, Sheila and some other cretin saved POUNDS on car insurance, with these idiots in the studio standing at the front of their cars, quoting how much they had 'saved'

This flaming ad, along with about 6 very-close-copies were rammed down the viewers throat at about 45ads/hour ... It actually put me off Sky TV, especially seeing as the only really worthwile programs were Star Trek and The Simpsons ...

So I stopped watching satellite, and when it went digital and becoming more difficult to pirate, I gave up completely and would dilude myself into smugness by thinking I'd never have to watch those shite adverts again ...

AND THEN ... about 2 months back, the SAME sodding AD appeared on Spanish TV (sort of where I live) ... with the added insult of being dubbed into Spanish ... So now its Juan, Carmen and flaming Carlos who get to save EUROS on their car insurance, whilst still looking as British as Paul Weller sat on a Union Jack vespa ...

I CANT STAND IT ANYMORE ..... *takes pin out of grenade* ... GAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH

I love this commercial...really hits close to home having been required to take a Leadership Development class where we had to read the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. Ugh...paradigm breaking...outside the box thinking. Watch and enjoy....

Oh yes....and my least favorites are among the horrid ads for law firms that deal with personal injury.

Lackey: Looks like they want to settle this one.
Lawyer: Meh...*waves hand to the side to say "I don't give a damn"*
Lackey: They got a LAWYER.
Lawyer: Oh yeah? *pompous windbag* Who.
Lackey: The law offices of GARY BECKER.
***INSERT DRAMATIC LAW AND ORDER BOOM HERE***
Lawyer: *spits out his coffee and looks horrifically surprised*
Lackey: Maybe we oughta...settle this one???
Lawyer: *wipes off coffee and looks really pissed off*

Cheap. Cheesy. A waste of 30 seconds I could have spent doing more important things, like peeling back my sunburn or waving my hand in front of my eyes really fast. dry.gif

As the new election comes, my least fav. ads come out.
Those bloody stupid political ad's where by one person simply accuses the other person of doing things.
ie: This comercial paid for by bush and chaney for 2004
John Kerry will raise taxes, destroy economy, ship old people off on ice bergs to die, run over small children with his terrorist paid for suv.

Okay that was fake I'll admit. But there pretty much along the same lines.

I've never really seen a political advert as such on British TV. Instead we get fifteen minute slots for election manifestos once a night on the big terrestrial channels. Strange really, because they're always dull as hell and avoided like the plague by TV viewers.

laugh.gif Yeah, my dad saw the scented ones and was like "People want to wipe their ass with scented toilet paper?" "Haha, no, Dad, it's on the cardboard."

I heard about G. W. Bush ads that had something to do with 9/11, but haven't seen any. That seems stupid to me.

Living in Canada we get alot of the American Comercials.

Although I cant really remember the last time I saw a Canadian political commericial or show. I think they come around with leaflets or something. Or Maybe thats the Jahova(sp?) witnesses people. I did get a reminder to vote with my tax package. Yup they still try really hard to get the word out.

As cheesy as that is, I'd rather have that than "Hi, my name is peter geraci. *talks about all the great things he can do to bring you out of debt if you call the number*" I mean, the ones that are painfully straightforward, where they don't even try. They just smack it on you. Sort of like the excedrin one I mentioned earlier.

Ok Oobunnie made me think of a Bush add that drives me nuts, and once I type that I'll go to the three I have in my head for good commercials (they're not political.)

Bush has this commercial that looks like an old time movie with cars going around and accuses John Kerry of doing what he can to raise gas prices. Under Bush our prices on gas are higher than they have ever been and will more than likely go higher. Was it me or wasn't the war on Iraq supposed to bring down gas prices?

Now for the good ones.

There's this pepsi commercial where you see this little boy that looks like he could be Jimi Hendrix standing in front of a guitar shop buying a pepsi out of a vending machine. You hear Jimi Hendrix music playing in the background and then you see him look across the street and see a coke machine by an accordian shop and hear Jimi Hendrix music being played on an accordian. Just think of what would have happened if he had had that coke. lol.

I've noticed that radio adds are getting way cool and there are two that I really like that are out right now.

The first one is a spin off on the six flags commercial Candice posted about to begin this thread. You hear this teenage boy talking about how he saw this old man at a bus stop near a convience store and just thought that he was so old, then this six flags bus pulls up and the old guy just starts dancing around so he couldn't be that old. They go to six flags and ride the rollercoasters that turn this way and that way and flip and go really fast. They turn to the old man to ask him how he liked the ride and he just sat there not responding with a really big grin on his face. Then the kid says, "Now that I think of it, I've never seen that old man at the bus stop again."

Sick but great if you ask me. lol

Now this one hits close to home and I absolutely love it. It's for an ATT calling plan and goes something like this: Bill woke up one morning and decided that he was going to move to the beach, so he called up his friend in Fresno and his friend in LA to tell them the good news. Bill continues to call all of his friends in California throughout the day to tell them of his great plan. The next day bright and early Bills friends are gathered along the Eastern border of California and they all begin to push. With a crack California floats away and becomes an island. Then they talk about free long distance to anyone in California and how it will only cost 5 cents a minute to talk to anyone on the main land. It was hard becoming an island but at least we have these great phone rates.

That one makes me laugh so hard. I've had so many people tell me the states going to fall off into the ocean. laugh.gif

biggrin.gif I know the bloke who made those! I think he got paid a ton of money, and now there's a debate in the US media about whether there really is such a thing as bad advertising... Not that I'm bitter or anything...

I generally hate any advert on daytime TV that starts with a line that sounds like it came from a Mr Snaffleburger advert... Do you have crippling debts? Can you not keep up with the repayments on your home? Ever feel like you just want to end it all?

Oh god, I've seen those! It usually ends in me running screaming from the room.

What was worse though was when I was innocently (mostly) sitting my art class and all of a sudden some guy started singing the jingle.

AGH It was horrible!

But I really like the one Geico commercial where theres the family riding in the car and the kids are asleep in the backseat and the gecko is there, all strapped in and twitching like a cat dreaming of a ball of string. It's cute.

One of my least favourite UK commercials:

The "Personal Injury Helpline" advert. Which features one of the most unattractive people ever, which somehow makes you want to go out and cause injury. How he promotes the company, I do not know.

*bump*

I have just seen the coolest advert for a Citreon C4.

The car transforms into a robot (Transformers style, funny that) and is dancing around to this sort of techno type music. Truly the coolest advert I've seen in a long while.

If you're in the UK keep an eye out for it.

I still believe the Bud adverts with the Chameleons were fantastic.

I saw a Millers ad I think during this years superbowl with the mut dog trained to get the beer while I was in the States- THAT was funny

I cant stand any of those personal injury or insurance ads although my old teacher Mr Cleg aparently saved a load of dosh with some car insurance bods..??

oo oo oo and "'Ave it!" -> PETER KAY in the John Smiths Bitter ads are brilliant- straight to the point- NO NONSENSE
"Its not the bed monsters you have to worry about sweetheart, its the burglars coming throught the window"..."off to the old folks home for you Mum...I want a pool table and the kids are scared of your moustache" Bloody wonderful

My favourite that hasn't yet been mentioned is still the tango man slapping the tango drinker in the mouth.

And my least favourites are the ones that repeat at least twice in the same set such as those ring tone ads and the insurance ones

Worst advert: Bl%%dy mobile phone ads for music for your phone. OMG they are absolutely awful. Like I want to hear that tinny awful sound coming out of my mobile let alone stero from my TV!!!

Best advert: I saw this advert once before it was banned. About Eight years ago Tango released a still variety called (surprisingly enough) Tango still. At around eight o clock in the evening one night I saw an advert telling people that this drink was not proper merchandise and if you had seen any on sale to phone this number. You phoned it and heard "You've been Tangoed!" Lasted one week before being taken off the air but was absolutely brilliant!

Yep Joel Vietche on Rathergood.com The original on his site is better 'cos we dont get Quiznos, but I remember the ad from when I dashed throught the States -->"We love you Moooooooooon..." hilarious AND disturbing, great mix.

I've just seen the Citreon ad too where the car goes all Transformers and boogies away (I think Snugglebum mentioned it before)

And oo oo oo! Eddie Izzard's recycling ad is soooooooooo cool
