Kazaa = the world's most popular P2P program. However, ridden with crappy quality music files and viruses.
Soulseek = a small P2P network with cult status. Faster speeds and better quality MP3s, yet less users and a screwed-up search function. Take your pick, people. Discuss your views. -------------------- 6:30pm

Kazaa 0\/\/|\|2 Soulseek. True, there's the occasional dummy music file and the (very) occasional virus, but it's not often enough to be any kind of problem. I get virii through e-mail more often than I do through Kazaa. Kazaa has what's important for a P2P community - LOTS OF PEOPLE.

Pshaw. Soulseek is a more stable program, with a better selection of MP3s and a more reliable download system (does the downloading off more than one user thing EVER make your connection faster? No.). Also, it's not riddled with viruses, and people on there know a decent quality sound file when they hear it.

ROAD TEST TIME.
I want some DeathBoy mp3s. I search Kazaa. Immediately, I get several pages of them. I start downloading a few. I search on Soulseek. ... ... ...oooh! There's one! Oh, wait. It's in queue. ... I started that search about twenty minutes ago. There's still only one result. No matter, I'm listening to all those mp3s I got from Kazaa. -------------------- Every sort of expert knowledge and every inquiry, and similarly every action and undertaking, seems to seek some good. That is because you're on at a bad time. Anyway, my road test...
Hmmm. I wonder if anyone has any Electric Six MP3s. The album's not out for another 3 or so months, so this should be interesting. I search Soulseek. A whole bunch of people have the album. I download off someone with a decent speed and it's on a CD within half an hour. Result. I search Kazaa. A few people have bits and pieces, but by the time the file's on my hard drive, it's taken forever, and it's screwed to hell and back. The one decent one I get I find out is at 96 kbps. Feh. -------------------- 6:30pm

kazaa never had spyware, it just installed an extra piece of software without telling you which beleive it or not was part of the peer to peer software, and if i'm not wrong (i might be) kazaa piggy backs off the gnutella network which was around the same time napster was so of course it's gonna be bigger

Actually SPS after installing Kazaa again on my computer I ran spybot and it killed a couple of things Kazaa had installed onto my computer. (spybot searches out and destroys spyware). To avoid spyware on Kazaa one has to have the Kazaa lite version, which is at least from my experience, hard to find anymore.
Soulseek is far superior. You can hook straight up to your friends and gank their files, which is a lot nicer in my opinion, than trying to find someone on Kazaa who has a decent speed and doesn't cancel your connections. I find that I can find the more readily available crap on Kazaa, but the unknowns that I think are better for spicing up my collection I can only seem to find on Soulseek or WinMx. WinMx though is worse than Kazaa at actually letting you download anything. -------------------- ![]() Being Pimped By Aries Since 2003 |

Soulseek is better. kazaa is a big ugly program that slows down your computer, and has a poor media player, which provides unnecessary hugeness in program size and memory requirements. Use Winamp you heathens!
On the other hand, if it's porn you're looking for, KaZaA is far superior. |

i voted soulseek cause i got a virus from kazaa months ago and this is me just getting back online now...ok that had more to do with not having a working computer than the virus itself but its kazaa's fault my puter was screwed! rawr...

easy choice:
- kazaa for finding stuff when I dont know who's got it ... - slsk for ganking of people I know already ... for search results there is simply no comparison between kazaa and slsk ... kazaa has billions more files ... its unavoidable ... and debs' "no virus on slsk" thing is probably because he couldnt download any files cos there are very few anyway, and the server spends half its time on its ass .... -------------------- Smileys don't mean not destuctive and not vicious

Slsk's the only decent prog for full albums encoded at a half decent bitrate (you can also occasionally find mpc files which tend to be almost transparent). It's also better for apps and films even if there's less choice because thanks to a much better community you get less virii and dummies (I've never encountered any at all on slsk).
[edit] Bittorrent is just as good for everything I've mentioned but only if the file's in demand at that point in time because of how it works. [/edit] |

In my case I use my beloved ED2K (a good client can be found here) for most of my downloading needs. It's not the fastest out there, but it's damn reliable, and you get some really high quality files. The only problem is that it works best when left running 24/7, but I've got used to sleeping with the sound of fans now!
