Mata meet: London, 13th March 2010, watching the rowing! Options

My girlfriend Laura is coxing in 'WEHORR' (rather unfortunately pronounced 'we whore'), a big rowing event that she has been working towards for 18 months.

The rowing starts around 3pm (to be confirmed) and the best place to view it is from The Rutland pub:

The plan for the day is to arrive at the pub at around 2:30-3pm ish, watch the race and randomly cheer at things, then probably head into central London in the early evening for food and more pub time, probably going to the usual haunt, The Champion:

Slight change in venue:

The pub below is right next to where we're boating. Not sure how they'd spot each other maybe we should get all our supporters to wear deeley boppers or t shirts with Go 'City of Oxford Ding' on them.

Ok on to the details.
We're now boating from HSBC Rowing Club Rowing Club, Embankment London SW15 1LB because some silly people have decided to do major construction work on Ferbuinal (or what ever it's called) gardens.

Apparently the nearest station is Putney there's a link to a map on this website http://www.londononline.co.uk/profiles/79950/#

There's a whole raft of boat clubs on that stretch of river and apparently nestled between them is a rather nice pub I think it's this one http://www.boathouseputney.co.uk/

The finish for the race is just before Putney Bridge so you may need to put your pints down for 10 mins to see me finish. The CORC boats are 52 for Paul's crew and 136 for Laura's crew (for info Tier 1 are 29 & Tier 3 178)

So tier 1 will be off at a few minutes past 3 (boats are setting off at 10 second intervals) Paul will be off about 3.15 I'll be off about 3.30 and so on. It should take about 22 minutes for us to glide effortlessly over the finish - ok maybe not effortlessly. Expect tears, expect sweat, expect blisters and slightly ill looking rowers and of course a fantastic day out.

Rob, I'll be aiming for 2:30ish to give contingency for trains being rubbish.

Pat, will you be joining us in the evening or for the race? It should be a good spectacle - it is the largest race of its kind in the world.

Froggie has also said she'll be along in the evening.

This is a big day for Laura, so she'll probably be knackered so I don't expect it to be a very late one for us (we'll probably head back to Oxford around 10pm).

SW train from Waterloo goes to Putney. Put's you at the top of the hill from the river, looks to be about the same walking distance.

Just a quicky, I'll be aiming to get to London about 1pm-ish, so I've got plenty of time to find my way to Putney. If I'm late it's because I'm watching the first qualifying session of the new F1 season.

I'm about to leave, so will likely be very early - it's only 25 mins from East Croydon to Putney on the train. The trouble is that I've got to get to East Croydon first, which is a 40-ish minute bus ride, 15 minutes to the bus stop, and however-long wait for the bus!
