Can someone help me out I'm lost.

I had the old version of flash, and I got rid of it so I could install the new one. But now it wont let me.. It says the stuff about it not being suported on my operating system... I dont remember ever getting a different operating system.

And it cant be that I need quicktime, because I went and got the new version of that....

I want my flash sad.gif

How old is your OS? If it really becomes a problem - email Macromedia and ask them - have a look on their site for a tech support contact.

You're giving away a huge amount of info on the subject there, oobunnie, but I'd say that to conserve inner peace and work happily with Flash in a way you know and love, just re-install the old one (I guess Flash 5) ... Unless you dont have the installer of course *cough*kazaa*cough*.

If MX aint goin' in, wait for a new comp and/or operating system ...

You're talking about a Mac, right?

Nope I have Windows (ermm PC i guess ?) not mac... I dont have my disc for the old flash

I e-mailed the macromedia people last week, but they still havent responded.

I looked around their help stuff but I couldnt find anything that fit with my problem.

I have what they say are the requirments for it, but it wont work...

Windows
600 MHz Intel Pentium III processor or equivalent
Windows 98 SE, Windows 2000, or Windows XP
256 MB RAM (512 MB recommended)
800 MB available disk space

Just a FYI.

to find out your version of windows:

Start > Run > type 'winver' then press ok.

It seems odd that your OS isn't supported by MX 2004, it also seems a little odd that you don't know your OS but you have the most up-to-date version of Flash available (I don't have it yet!).

Where did you get your copy of Flash from? Maybe they will be able to tell you what the problem is. If it's a dodgy copy then it might be the fault of the copy and not the software, in such a case it would be a good idea if you scan it and your PC with anti-virus software.

I dont know where it was baught, or if it was baught. My father sent it to me. I'm guessing he got it from one of his friends, or a copy got to sent to him... something of that variety.

It is the really macromedia version, (well I say so based on that it came in the correct box and still had the seal on it).

I dont really know that much about computers hence the not knowing what an OS was. But now that I understand what it is, I have ME. So I do have everything I need. I think... Flash 5 was so easy to install unsure.gif

All in all my abilities are to stick a disk into my computer and click next as designated until I learn how to do stuff in the program. I still havent figured out how to make the "Alice" game load, and so it can sit in the corner and get dusty and sad in never being used. This flash is soon to be joining that pile.

Windows ME really is dreadful... It's even worse when you try to get rid of it! Immediately as I got this PC I installed Windows 2000 but, silly me, I went for the upgrade option rather than a full install. This then caused almost nothing to work, device drivers to not know what system I was running and basically the whole thing was a nightmare. I never did manage to get rid of ME either, eventually I ended up using a dual boot and automatically plumping for the 2000 option everytime.

The issues continued for quite a long time until eventually the harddisk went belly-up on me and so I could eventually get rid of the damn thing. I find it very scary that the only way that I could succeed in getting rid of ME, after several professional computer technicians had tried, was to physically throw away the drive it was on.

Anyway... I would have thought that ME would be supported... Odd...

Tell me who they are so I know to steer clear.

No operating system can physically break your hard drive, so whoever told you that could either not be arsed to fix it or did not know there arse from there elbow, even if the OS may have completley shagged the boot record you can do a low level format using your disc makers utility.

That's really bemused me... was the disc actually shagged when you threw it away?

Really I think its worse when you try and re-install it. The disk makes a wirring sound, that sound like bill gates laughing at you. Laughing at you I tell you!

But you just gave me a great idea!

I can take my computer and the program to Staples and pay them to install it for me, for a mer $20 I can force the burden on them... I am a genius. You may all not be thinking it but I am a ge-ni-us laugh.gif

Nooo, wrong end of the stick there.

ME just wouldn't for the life of it uninstall and nothing would seem to get rid of it entirely. The harddisk dying was an unrelated thing that has apparently happened to a lot of that model drive. The OS didn't kill it, but also I don't think it was doing a very good job of getting the best out of what was available either.

As it would turn out, I cant put the new version on my computer because of windows ME. So I had to buy Flash 5.0 as I'm pretty sure the tossed my old one away dry.gif

Looks like Flash Mx and its pretty little box get to be added to my pile dusty stuff to rot.

Did you actually buy the full version?

Anybody else thinking more money than sense?
