That's a pretty puppy, man. Was she a golden retriever? <3 I know how hard losing pets can be, and a lot of people out there don't understand the emotional attachment to them, which is silly. They're our best friends, they never complain and always listen, are always happy to see you and never turn away - but just remember that you provided her with the absolute best care you could, and that is more than any animal could ask for, and more than so many of them get.

Yes, she was a Golden Retriever. They usually get 15-17, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. And yeah, people who haven't had a pet (or a cat or dog especially) don't get the fuss. Where you can get in fights and arguments with humans, Ashley never disagreed with me, was always there to wag her tail and jump up in excitement when I came home, etc. And she was a big cuddlebunny <3

Wow 15 or 17? I honestly thought Goldens had the same expectancy as Yellow/Black/Chocolate labs. My Marty passed away before his 13th birthday and he was a yellow lab and usually labs live to be between 12-15 at best scenario from what I learned over the years. 10 years is awesome though and least your puppy is on rainbow bridge <3 She's a very lovely puppy smile.gif

Ashbless I know how it is. I recently had to put my dog Marty down in November since his quality of life went downhill so much he was a shell of his former happy lab self.

Before he left I gave him a treat and called him a good dog (he drove me nuts over the years, destroyed all kinds of stuff etc but he always was an awesome dog).

I'm still dealing with it to this day but you are doing the right thing for your kitty.

Nine years eh? Definitely been a while.

I was gone for a few years then came back around the end of college, but mostly lurked. Lurking is now what I do best lol.

I'll be 26 this coming March. 25 right now. Not much else to say.

QUOTE (Mata @ Feb 20 2011, 02:35 PM) *
All of these things are lovely in theory, but when the software is a pain in the arse to update (like forum software and shop software) sometimes you just have to hope for the best.

Two amusing things I've noticed about software:
- older versions are generally run by smaller sites with less personal data on them, so they are less interesting targets for hackers
- older versions are generally by their nature less feature-rich. With every new feature you add, the interactions between the code becomes more complex, allowing more possibilities for vulnerabilities to creep in.

Also, one over-riding rule about every piece of software:
- everything is crackable.

I've got more than one friend who, as a profession, hack banks and other institutions. They are paid to do this by the institutions to test the security, and every single time they manage it. Everything is crackable.

With this in mind, it becomes a balancing act between how much of your life and/or money you want to spend on hardening your online defences compared to how vulnerable you are. If hackers are suitably smart or determined then there really is nothing you can do to stop them. Nothing at all. So, I try to keep my sites secure, my passwords strong, and my software reasonably updated, but I am also very aware of the limitations of my capacity to actually stop this completely, I can only reduce the risk.

In other words there is a balance between effort and reward - it would take infinite effort to prevent hacker attacks completely, so eventually a line must be drawn where you feel you've done enough and anything further is just too much of a pain in the arse.

To put it briefly - lurker translation for Mata to those who were attempting to step in with advice:

YOU AIN'T GOT NO PANCAKE MIX!!

Mood's topic? Lightened +5.

I got a pressie! More than one in fact, a combination of some bright red Canada mittens, a calendar with bunnies on it and some brightly coloured yarn necklaces. From the lovely Tigerlily smile.gif Thank you!

biggrin.gif Wow I didn't expect them to be on time! Yay overseas mail! Glad you like them, my mother made a huge fuss of me sending the mitts, she thought that was perfect since its probably just as cold over there right now.

Dear Tigerlily

Despite the fact that I told the elves to start work on your gift a week ago, they still have no word on when anything's actually going to happen. Probably due to the bloody unions, of course they've got to work extra hours at Christmas, it's the only time of the year they do any work! *ahem* anyway, the point is unless they can pull their fingers out and get cracking, it may be some time before you receive said gift. Terribly sorry.

Santa

That's okay. For some reason I was thinking of the other day about this and had a feeling this may happen. I've been having crap luck with a few things since start of this year including technology and work politics. I'm pointing my finger at mother karma being moody lately unsure.gif Anyway I know you will try your best. I'm just glad I got all my stuff out early before December hit >_> lol.

Dislikes: Olives, Pepto Bismol or any food with sodium percentage of higher than 8%. I'm still working on the weight loss and main concern is keeping salt down. A lot in most cases as possible.

This made me laugh, that you hate Pepto SO MUCH that you're ensuring that just in case anyone wanted to send you a gift that helps de-gas you they don't choose to send the pink stuff. Anything but that.

Of course the fact that made me laugh so much might partially be the sleep deprevation.

ps - expect pepto if i'm your secret santa. smile.gif

Funny thing is, it would be worse to send me olives than the Pepto because even on smell those things made me very ill. Pepto needs to be ingested to make me sick lol. But I digest (joking)! laugh.gif

I expect something semi whacky lol.

My stomach hurt super bad today. I talking BAD bad. I felt like I was going to die.
Then I went home and my mom suggested pepto. I kinda rolled my eyes but figured it was worth a try.

Fast forward to ten minutes later and I start farting. A lot. Loudly.

My stomach doesn't hurt anymore.
Thanks, mom!

Had an upset tummy years ago, something I ate upset it I guess so I did the same thing and upchucked, hard lol.

I don't trust anything of that Pepto-ish pinkness now. Nothing LOL!

Name: Rebecca (TigerLily013 as nick will do)

Prev victims: None! First year this year I'm actually wanting AND able to participate!

Likes: Costume jewelry like mood rings that don't need to be adjusted to fit me (I'm a size 10/11ish in ring), I like boy's chains I can wear around my neck, I'm a sucker for crafts and sentimental creations someone took the time to think about lil' ol' me. Creations someone makes me can include computer made media files (music, wallpapers, video), stuff made of material like cloth, plastic, paper etc, you get the idea.

I collect virtual pets, and I also play World of Warcraft. I like Warlocks <3 Tis the first thing I leveled on there haha. I'm also enjoy things like cats, hello kitty, power rangers (old school please) and shiny things.

I don't know if food would be involved, however if it is something that'll travel well if it comes across the sea. Pocky or something box with low sodium is always a plus. Chocolate delights and other japanese treats are this lady's fancy. I also like a lot of gummy candies, and if they could be sugarfree that would be awesome, but if not no worries!

So Pretty much I like a lot of things lol.

Dislikes: Olives, Pepto Bismol or any food with sodium percentage of higher than 8%. I'm still working on the weight loss and main concern is keeping salt down. A lot in most cases as possible.

Also if sweets be sent to me, send an amount within reason since chocolate has a tendency to lower my will power to behave >_> lol.

...really?

Boys are weird. It looks like she's wearing a barbie wig.

Don't have a TMI exactly, but this thread always reminds me of the time I got super-tipsy with a bunch of lady-friends and we talked about the worst thing we've ever had to wipe with. The list was: nothing (drip-dry), cotton balls, Q-tips, the empty cardboard roll, a hand (! yeesh!), a receipt, used tissues and a sock.

Ever try a coffee filter? You know those accordion-circle-like things you put in coffee machines to brew the joe. Yeah. Used that before. Not too great.

I mostly have a cupboard of condiments and tins of tomatoes. All it takes then is a minimal amount of actual ingredients and you can make great tasting dishes for not much dosh.

I thought it was SNU SNU, not FUFU lol! Sorry just noticed that now.

Anyway hope the looking into things and moving is going okay Crazymat. Not sure how the housing market is over there, over here in Ontario it seems to be slowly improving again. Cheers!

Yeah all my cats respond to their names so a cat not responding eventually to theirs is a first in my books. I hope you guys stick to one name soon, for the kitten's sake of course. Don't want to confuse the poor thing.

Depends on which table you're referring to. I'm going to assume you mean the closest one, which would be the computer room.
Mostly crap, a book about cat behaviour, bag of vacuum bags, and a bowl thing I'll be making into a pretty craft later.

What's going on outside your nearest window?
