Foiled from Blue October.

Amaaaaazing!
Drilled a Wire Through My Cheek and Overweight are my favorites...closely followed by X Amount of Words.

Their lyrics are amazing, and each song has a distinctly different sound. I am lovin' it.

--------------------
Her dignity shone so bright like a light on a hill
and she burned for me, no other man came near her flame.
Bad country songs - the deafening twang of the rich white kid blues.
You can own the strange, but the lights and glares will not make you real.

^Just for you, I've been listening to some rap this morning.

Wu-Tang Clan- Babies (Arguably the best use of a sample in a song, ever, even to the point where it excuses: "the killer had to be mad smart/he wore mittens")
Biggie Smalls- Dangerous MC's
Pharoahe Monch- Desire

Brazilian Girls--Jique.

I saw them last night--consisting of me staring in awe at the lead singer, and inventing such profundities as: "Dancing is, like, breathing with your feet".

So good. Such a pretty lead singer. Such a crappy venue. Yet a glorious night.

Scout Niblett- Kidnapped By Neptune and the Ting Tings- Not My Name. Both super catchy, clappy, drum filled Indie (potential)hits.
For you UKians out there, the Scout Niblett song is used on Stella McCartney's perfume advert. It goes "shoob shoob shoob shooba shoob shoob shoob" etc etc.

I'm cold.

Seeing as I have had The Alterkicks stuck in my head for most of the day, I'll say that I have been listening to them.
I have been listening to The Alterkicks. They are quite good, catchy, but not spectacular.

Today, I am actually listening to music and it just so happens to be Noah And The Whale.
I first saw them this year at the Institute Of Contemporary Arts in London, when they were supporting fields. who were playing with a mini-orchestra. They were lovely, playing energetic, romantic, shoe gazing music with violins, cardigans and soft London accents. I should have seen them later on in the year, too, when I saw Broken Social Scene at KoKo in Camden, but got there too late. They did come on stage to join in with BSS's last song, though, which was awesome.
To cut what could be an even longer story short, they are really cool chaps who play soft, mellow music and who are good to listen to in cold evenings next to the fire. /radiator- we are in the future, after all.

Been rocking out to Rachmanninoff all morning. His music is the kind of person I'd like to fall in love with. : )

Owning an MP3 player has killed my ability to post here - I just pile up random nonsense which I almost immediately forget.

Songs of the last few weeks that have stuck in my fickle mind:

Just Abandoned My-Self - Boris
Air War - Crystal Castles
LA Shaker - Cobra Killer (nothing will shift it...)
Like This With The Devil - Entombed
The Final Mistake - Beastellabeast

On a music-related note, I recently watched the Sigur Ros DVD 'Heima' whilst soaking my foot in a bucket of TCP-laced warm water. I recommend this setup, as the two experiences work together quite well. Lovely DVD, I must say - less a music DVD, more a protracted advert made by the Iceland Tourist Board.

I'd heard that about Heima. Come to Iceland! We're all bonkers and have lovely scenery!

I've been listening a lot to the Blade Runner soundtrack, the Esper Edition. This has never been released and (as far as I know) was made by a load of geeks by removing the vocal track of the movie. The result is the only full soundtrack available from the film, and jolly good it is too.

Notes From Above Ground by The Augean Stables. They're a small band with one album that I only found because they had a song pre-downloaded on a Rio MP3 player I bought about 2 years back. Their drummer emailed me as someone who bought the albun through their label at the time and they're coming back with another album soon... YAY!

A Silver Mt. Zion and their various name-changes. They're so moving. Even if the singer's voice annoys you (it does that to me sometimes), there's tons of instrumental stuff that's just mindblowing.

^ Now, see, I've been wanting to check them out for months but I'm not willing to pay for it and as of now my only method of getting free music is from CDs stolen from the floors of friends' bedrooms. Gragh. I am now frustrated.

Listening to St. Vincent, very pleasant if not especially interesting. Dynamite video for "Jesus Saves, I Spend" though--utterly adorable and full of Cub Scouts.

The Klaxons are ok, but ... just not spectacular. I'm not sure you could say that "everyone out of the UK hates them! tongue.gif But, like The Kaiser Chiefs and The Arctic Monkeys, their first album was vaguely good but hideously overplayed.

I got to see St. Vincent supporting The National in October. We had only heard OF her, not TO her, and she was surprisingly delightful!

Recently, I have been listening to Scout Niblett. Her song Kidnapped By Neptune was on a Stella McCartney perfume advert over Christmas, and her album of the same name is brilliant. Elphabaramabarba, I think you would like it.

Iceland is teh win, but it is populated by nutters who believe in fairies. Which is a good thing, obviously.

In my excitement at getting my mitts on some Urusei Yatsura (best Scottish band with a Japanese name evar, indie-rock kidz) I've been utterly caning 'Slain By Elf'. A truly marvellous tune about the joys of being a D&D obsessed nerd, and also a tune I'm yet to get tired of. Result!

Also 'Rattled By The Rush' by Pavement. Sweeeeet.

I think that it's pixies that the Icelanders believe in, not fairies. Pah! Believing in fairies? That would be nuts! But pixies, well yes, obviously they live in the big stones and will get offended if you move them... They once diverted a road around a big rock (a metre or two wide) instead of moving it because pixies lived inside. Completely lala bonkers, but a lovely bunch. Their sagas totally rock too.

Silver Mt. Zion are good in small portions - Froggy introduced me to them. I like it, but not usually for a whole album. I'm also a person who prefers their instrumental tracks.

Currently I'm listening to 'The Dark Side of the 80s', a compilation album that I downloaded purely because it featured one of my old favourite bands called That Petrol Emotion. Right now it's playing The Cramps - Garbageman.

Completely understandable, Mata. I'm about to inundate a friend with ASMZ, and I will be telling them "The vocals can be kind of annoying, but you have to listen to at least the first album (which is almost entirely instrumental)!" And sometimes I can't listen to them that much because they are so good at what they do they depress me.

Beckys is giving me music... ooh.
