Right, if anyone can help me I'll lick their boots clean for a year!!
I installed a new hard drive the other day to cope with my growing amount of music, it's a 120 GB and with my other drives I now have 160 GB altogether. So, I moved all my music onto this new drive and now none of it plays properly It skips and slows down. I've tried installing different media players but that hasnt helped. I've uninstalled them as well and gone back to my old faithful one but still the same problem. Has anyone got any ideas what may be happening? Not being able to listen to my music properly is driving me maaaaaaad. -------------------- ![]() ![]() ![]() |

It sounds like the computer can't read data from the disk fast enough, but it's hard to tell what's up from the information you've given.
How is the disk connected? (External USB disk (USB 1 or USB 2)?, firewire?, internal (IDE or SATA)?, etc) Even easier, what make and model of disk is it? Also what version of Windows (I assume -------------------- I am Candice's asw emo e-husband, real life actual husband and all around awesome person, Funked)Out_Frogg's e-paramour. It's probably IDE then (big ribbony type cable) the only thing I can possibly think of is either the jumper settings might be wrong or the cable might not be sitting properly....if it's not that then it could faulty on the inside....hmm....

I'd have to agree with P@, the main things I can think of would be looks ribbon cables (try unplugging and plugging back in, possibly into a different socket on the motherboard if there is one spare), alternatively jumper settings which are more fiddly and likely to differ between brands of hard drive.
Another thing could be incorrect detection of the disk in the BIOS causing some kinds of issue, again that's dependant on the computer manufacturer and you'll probably need the manual (don't fiddle with the BIOS if you're not sure you know what you're doing). -------------------- I am Candice's asw emo e-husband, real life actual husband and all around awesome person, Funked)Out_Frogg's e-paramour. On the back hard drive between the power socket and the IDE socket are a few little pins, some of which are connected by a jumper, depending on which pins the jumpers connect means it acts differently. With IDE you can have two things on one port on the motherboard but it needs to be able to tell them apart and so you have the two different settings (well there are three, but we can ignore the third) Master and Slave (we can refer to it to Mistress if you'd rather

a couple of points on what P@ said:
- "on same port" = on same cable, so big ribbony cable goes from motherboard to hard disk and on again to other hard disk. this isnt ideal, and it might be better to stick the newbie on the other ribbony cable that, this being the case, also connects to CD-ROM drive. You would set the new hard disk to "Master" and the CD-ROM drive to "Slave" (only if this fits the description of what you've got) - jumper = small bit of plastic that fits over 2 spikes (or pins). This you hoik out with nail-control and move to right spot, as illustrated by very insufficent diagram on sticker on disk.. That being said, if the jumper were wrong you normally wouldnt see the hard disk at all, so that _shouln't_ be it One last grain of salt: I once did the same thing and decided in my infinite moronity to slap the "My Documents" folder onto the new hard drive. This had bad repercussions cos windows didn't want to trust me and decided to stick to its guns and take for frickin' AGES to find anything at all ... I undid that and all went back to normal _fairly_ quickly. Little things like this can affect stuff. Tell us if there is anything else happening along those lines ... Last but not least, though clutching at straws, have you moved all music to the new drive? If so, have you nuked the media library of your media player and told it to search for all music on new drive? ... ya never know ... this might even be a point ... -------------------- Smileys don't mean not destuctive and not vicious

I agree with everything said above, and escpeically Pab's sig:

Isn't the heart just a clock ticking away the moments until our death? It's a metaphor, y'see... Either that or purely accidental and a result of drawing too late at night. The decision is yours!
