I do want to big up ScoreHero.com though. I thoroughly recommend any Guitar Hero players head over there and register your scores for some friendly competition.... -------------------- Nearly two years in - about time for a new AV

We've gone DS crazy. In between Advance Wars (me) and New Super Mario Bros (Kat), the DS is getting a lot of airtime. So much so that we've just ordered a lovely ice blue DS Lite from Hong Kong. Mmmm, gadgets!
I've also been playing around with GT4 which I picked up for cheap off Fleabay. Obsessively enjoyable. I'm strangely attracted to the photo mode. -------------------- Nearly two years in - about time for a new AV

I completed Hitman 2: Silent Assassin last night, after having been stuck on one level for ages. I think it gave me a rating of "Mass Murderer," so perhaps I should go play through it again but attempt to do things a little more quietly?

The Sims. It's really more of a temp diversion until I can get Oblivion- money's been tight since I bought a new computer. And considering I only make around ten bucks a week for mowing my lawn (Not as easy as it sounds- an acre, plus!), I've still got a little while to go.
But I know it's worth it, from what I hear Oblivion is ridiculously open-ended. It's the whole reason I got my computer. -------------------- "Anarchism is the most irrational, anti-intellectual notion ever spun by the concrete-bound, context-dropping, whim-worshiping fringe of the collectivist movement, where it properly belongs."

I DMed my first D&D game last night. We're playing online so Calantyr's brother, Laz, a couple of friends of mine from South Carolina, and Randy can all play together. It went rather well.

For the past three months or so I've been messing around on Oblivion. That is, until I got America's Army (Which, by the way, I find to be a tad confusing).

Ah, America's Army. That's the one where they can bring up your kill stats in army recruitment offices, isn't it? That's a strange thing indeed. I've often wondered whether all these computer games have trained any useful instincts or strategies into me:
Aaaaargh! I'm riddled with bullets, I need a box with a red cross on it, STAT! I finished Rogue Trooper yesterday, and damn good fun it was too. It's nothing revolutionary, but it's very solidly put together, with some nice touches, and good level design. I also love the character from the 2000AD comics, so it was a pleasure to get to play with him on-screen. I'm also playing on Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2. It's a beautiful game, and the animation in particular is of the high standard that you would expect from the makers of Ico. Like that game, SotC has put a lot of effort into creating a sense of location and a unified design aesthetic, and has achieved this aim; however, also like Ico, SotC's primary appeal lies in that sense of space. The monsters are well designed, but I'm halfway through and the task of killing them is very much 'indentify the technique and execute'. It's got mroe imagination than many other games, in those techniques and visually, but the simplicity of the goal - find the enemies, destroy them one by one - means that unless you engage with that sense of location you could easily find it tedious. Personally I'm really enjoying it, but I suspect that it will leave some people cold. -------------------- Trouble Down Pit: Still updated every Monday and Friday

Mmm, games.
I had a splurge on We Love Katamari (20 squid in Virgin's sale), and Killer 7 (a snip at a fiver in the same sale). Both are as mad as snakes ears. Killer 7 especially. There's a ghost in a bondage suit that hangs from the ceiling by string and gives you advice. I'm utterly confumbled by it. Looks freakin' wonderful though. Other than that, plodding steadily through Dragon Quest, which is a very by-the-books RPG, but with lovely, lovely design. Got a few of the Bit Generations GBA titles on the way from the Far East too. Looking forward to having a twiddle with them. -------------------- Nearly two years in - about time for a new AV

Just on the psp these days. Finished Syphon filter the other day, a wee bit short, especially when I cant play online. Also got tekken, but it also just gets really repetitive when im on my own. Can any one recomend any good psp games that are out or out soon?
And Mata, I got shadow of the colossus a while back and was very disapointed. Theres way to much time spent looking for the monsters, the first half of them went down pretty easy, and most of the time the dodgy camera made the rest of them awkward and frustrating. Aside from that it looks beautiful and the music was perfect. |

It is a bit of a mixed bag isn't it? The gorgeous design aesthetic makes up for a lot of it, but it's been a while since I've used a camera that's quite so unruly.
I don't mind the 'riding around' bit. The landscape is very nicely done, and stopping to admire the view occasionally adds a lot to the game - it also shows it's pretty enough to do that with! -------------------- Trouble Down Pit: Still updated every Monday and Friday

Thats true, I spent a lot of time trying to shoot little lizards on the way. Have you completed it yet, I heard the ending was really sad, but I never got round to completing it.

The general opinion that I've seen so far is that it's got reasonably solid mechanics, but the missions are quite repetitive so it gets a bit dull about halfway through. It sounds like it's pretty decent fun for a fair while though, so if you can get it at a reasonable price and you're a big fan of GTA-style games then it could be worth a go.
In my spare time I'm playing Black again. I'm very stuck on the final mission on 'hard'. If I can beat that then I unlock a new mode, which is supposed to be great fun, but that final mission is a complete git to get past! I'm also playing 'polar bears'. This is where you pretend to be a polar bear by covering your nose with your paw/hand and then walk around telling people that you're a polar bear and that they can't see you. I highly recommend it. -------------------- Trouble Down Pit: Still updated every Monday and Friday

Just recently completed Ratchet Deadlocked. Another solid entry in an outstanding franchise, I'm happy to report. I was admittedly initially put off by the new set up, but I over came everything and the game was awesome. Now... to hard mode!

Call of Duty 2: Meh, not that fussed
Halo 1: Very good, but not perfect as I'd heard. I preferred Half-Life or Deus Ex Halo 2: Also very good. The deathmatches are good when there isn't an uber-experienced person online. Dead Rising: Grand Theft Zombie... I haven't decided about this one yet. It's got some very good elements, but also some massively frustrating aspects, including some very early difficulty spikes which suggest sloppy balancing. -------------------- Trouble Down Pit: Still updated every Monday and Friday

I've been playng Viewtiful Joe---I'll pause for PWM to wet his pants---and it is a lot of fun. I'm awful at it, as I am with most games, but I'll keep doing so if only for the sound effects. And the ballerinas.
