There was a new batch of spamming apps that came out recently so I had another clear out - it's good to not hear about the new mouse someone has adopted, or whatever it was!

Actually, I think the mouse thing was just Syuuko... tongue.gif

I don't remember seeing any mice lately, that was just a thing plucked from the air. I've got loads of apps blocked - it's lovely. Does anyone still bother with that Vampires V.s Werewolves app that was really big a few years ago?

Apps are good for three things... Spyware, viruses and malware. The people that loooove facebook apps give me job security, I will say that much.

Sounds like you've got mice in your subconscious. Which, in turn, sounds a bit painful...

I share the sentiment, though. I hate facebook apps; not only because they're insidious, crawling things that constantly try to get into your face, but also because I know that the companies doing them (especially the games) are making an absolute fortune for relatively little effort, and I'm not terribly chuffed about the implications for the gaming industry as a whole.

I was addicted to Sorority Life for a while. I'm not ashamed to admit it. I was proud of my ability to get into the 100's with only 22 people in my House. And then I got bored with it. So I deleted it all. I had Uno, too. But it took too long. So the only game I have left is Scrabble.

I kind of agree. Too much social networking attracts a lot of drama. I quit a forum that I once loved only because too much drama and paranoia were following me. I feel like people are addicted to social networking, but I can't understand why for the life of me!

I quite like the way that, although I've not met the majority of people on here, if we link up on Facebook then I get to know them better. Yes, I'm still not part of their life physically, but many people on here are friends and Fb is a way of sharing stories and experiences without vanity threads.

Tara: I know what you mean about the apps... But if only I could work out a way to make that much mone out of them then I'd happily be doing it too. Sorry, but a house isn't going to buy itself and I've got no idea how I'm supposed to afford one otherwise. This whole 'proper job' thing just strikes me as being a way of placating the masses while someone else gets very rich. I'd rather be making my money then waving good bye to daily chores.

Haha, to be fair to the app-makers, my opinion on thier takings is mostly based on jealousy tongue.gif
It's the negative effects this money-generation will have on the 99% corporate games industry that really worry me; if EA and Activision can find ways to cut costs and make money they will take those options, regardless of the consequences on the quality of the games their studios produce. It's more of a gripe with corporate business than anything specific to the gaming industry, and it's probably being a bit over-paranoid (the "death" of P.C. gaming never really happened, after all).

PC gaming is pretty ropey at the moment though - decreasing sales mean it's just not competitive with the console market. A cross-platform title might shift 5% of its units on the PC if it's lucky most of the time. I'm sure dedicated PC releases get better sales, but I'm still a bit doubtful about the long term market for big releases.

You never know, maybe the social online games will somehow suck us in and we won't miss our dedicated single-player hardcore experiences... Er... Maybe?

PC gaming is far from ropey. WoW saw to that almost single handedly, but a more recent example; Battlefield Bad Company 2 (technically a port from consoles) sold better on PC than it did on either 360 or PS3; the audience is still there for the right games, though admittedly those games are becoming fewer and fewer.

It's a far stronger market in central Asia, but then there are huge issues of piracy. As you say, there are a few titles that do well, but most MMOs would be utter fools to try and compete with World Of Warcrack. No matter what developers try to do, the software is hacked a day later, making piracy an utter ball ache for anyone trying to profit from a PC release. It's not about to die, but for games it is a usually a small market compared to the console releases.

Gosh, I am so addicted to facebook. It is a very weird thing really, but I consider it a way to keep track of a variety of different people and it helps to keep you connected to friends and family around the world, which is fantastic. It's also really fun to look at pictures smile.gif
