My aunt lives near there. she says they're having the most strange light, and it is not in London, it is in Hemel Hemstead.

I wasn't sleeping very well last night anyway and had really bad heebie jeebies so to be woken up by a big explosion and the house shaking was horrible! It didn't help that several aeroplanes were flying past at the time and I thought there'd been a bomb perhaps.

I don't think ANYONE died. Two were badly wounded and about 43 slightly wounded, but that's it. It's such a relief it happenned very early on a sunday morning and not during work hours, the carnage would have been emmense. I'm very glad no-one died. There's been far too much violent death lately. It really would have been horrible in the middle of a busy weekday when the buildings were crammed with people.

Thanks for the articles, people. I'm just happy no-one was hurt and it was an accident. There's only so long people can remain scared of another terrorist attack before paranoia sets in as it tends to in the U.S. That said, we're allowed to have nail clippers on airplanes again.

A slightly smaller version of this occurred near my house last year. Of course, people expect that sort of thing in New Jersey, and since carcinogenic fumes are the state poupourri, nobody really noticed besides being a little annoyed that the smoke was blocking their view of the pink midnight sky.

There are only two methods for making the flights safe from passengers. Firstly, you could sedate everyone for the duration. This might cause problems, what with some people having problems under sedation and the possibility of a passenger waking up. Also, how can we trust the pilots to not be carrying a dangerous pair of nail clippers? Or even a deadly toothbrush? No, the real method is to not allow anyone on the plane, including pilots. The planes can then be flown by robots between the countries with no fear of hijacking.

That's one solution, but it's only temporary. The ancients did that after drawing huge pictures of spiders and monkeys in the deserts but we worked out how to fly again eventually. Still, governments do like to delay things until after their term in office, so your plan would probably be popular with them.

 I love reading your conspiracy theories and ideas. Getting back to the subject- some of my family live in that area and, like many other houses, their windows and garage door got blown in. Which is slightly funny in a non-funny way as the mum is one of those people who gets their house all pristine and perfect before Christmas, and if she could, wouldn't let anyone come in and mess it up. They now have to get the carpets replaced, and some of the furniture as it is embedded with glass. Resume theories about air-travel

Terrorism and 9-11 are becoming the obnoxious little catch-alls for everything. Whenever something goes wrong, blame the terrorists and silence the questioner by saying something solemn about 9-11.
On a happy note, planes should be steered by people with microchips that can be controlled by emergeny ground personnel and airline passengers should fly in separate titanium-walled seats so they can't touch each other.  They should all have to wear plastic body-suits and walk through metal detectors. The suits would help prevent the wang-in-the-eye problem. *nods*
