Ok, so last night I went to see HIM play at UEA in Norwich.
If you ever get the oppertunity then seriously DON'T BOTHER!

They sucked, no, they really really sucked.

The support were Cathedral who were playing the sort of rock I listened to aged 13 when I was mad at my parents cause I couldn't paint my bedroom black. They also yelled 'Heellloooo Nooooriich' and 'Raaaaaooooccckkk' (I think) between every song. Good for a laugh admittedly but not very polished.

Then HIM, well the Music was very good, they have talent and a resonable style, particularly with the older tracks from the 1st album.
Unfortunatly the singer, although a very pretty boy has a few problems.
1. He can't sing without the aid of a hi tech studio to make it sound decent (or he had a bad cold and ear infection and couldn't hear himself singing as it was dreadful)
2. He was definatly busy posing for camera when the brains were handed out, and couldn't work the crowd to save his life, madethe warm up bands attepmts seem quite good in comparison.

So they played all the stuff most people had heard of, plus the more popular album tracks, went off stage during which time any attempts of the croud to shout 'more' etc... were decidely limp. Came back, did 2 more tracks no one had heard of and that was it, no real encore or anything, so we went home.

I think a lot of real HIM fans were and would be very dissapointed with the gig, it was definatly lacking in sparkle.
So if they are coming to a town near you, think carefully about if you want to see them, they are definatly not a very good live band, and in a way a really big fan is better off with MTV where they look and sound great.

Review of The Rasmus in about 3 weeks time.

bel.

I'm not too surprised. I figured as much when I heard his first CD and saw the marketing.

OKay, well as an avid him lover I would have loved to see him - sucky or not. Some people just have a fear of performing (ironic considering their business).

Anyways, I find the way you've critiqued this performance slightly offensive. If you feel that they didn't do a great job, then say it. But please refrain from making remarks like the following:

Sounds pretty much the same as when I saw them at Download. The music was fairly good, but whatever his name was almost inaudible, and didn't at all seem like he was putting any balls into it. Gave up after about two songs, partly because it wasn't a particularly inspiring performance, and partly to go see Metallica.

At the time I put it down to a bad sound man, but now that I've heard a similar account, I'll agree. HIM are not worth going to see live*.

* Unless you're one of those people that would see them live just to appreciate the music with little regard for the frontman. Personally, I find that quite unlikely in most HIM fans (going by the several I've met). I don't believe it's their music that sells their records.

As much as I love their music, I am greatful to know that their performance seems to be lacking.

I saw a performance of maroon five in NYC (live on tv but ohwell) and they just didn't seem with it. The lead singer didn't so much emotion -- but I do however love their songs.

Aw, I didn't wanna know that. Now I can't idolize him and keep up my belief that he's perfect. tongue.gif

So no not only is he...I think it's too harsh to say 'conceited,' but...he's totally about his image (although he does look freaking hot. wub.gif) and he's like an 'Avril Lavigne-er' (Fun to think that we may--I will, anyway--start using her as a prime example of voice distortion wink.gif )

Maybe I'll forget after I go to sleep, or maybe I'llk finally push it so far into the back of my head that I finally get used to it or don't care anymore, like when I read something negative about David Boreanaz (TV's Angel) four years ago.

Being ignorant can seem so much better at times. dry.gif

Ok, so sorry if I offended people with using words they didn't like, I'll bear it in mind for my review of the Rasmus, but I assure you that I was giving my honest opinion of what I thought the gig was like and in my view "They really wern't very good" just wasn't a strong enough way to express how it went.

I could have said "the gig was utterly $hit" or something, but that I felt would be too strong, and cause yet more ruffled feathers.

Sorry to burst a few peoples fan bubbles, I was disappointed as well casue they make good music/videos when in the studio obviously so I was expecting a much better live performance.
A lot of kids when home dissapointed too, as gigs are open to 14+ and its them I feel sorry for, they deserved a really good show.

Why not? If they sucked they sucked. I'm sorry but I really can't see why is this offensive? huh.gif

Anyway I've seen them three times live. The first time was excellent (Astoria May 2003) but second gig sucked, yes sucked and we walked out. The support was better (Viking Skull). Ville blamed his poor perfomance on him being up most of the night throwing up and he had a cold. Well at least I think that's what he said as the sound was dire. The third time was at Download and again the sound was poor. Mind you the sound was poor for the whole weekend so I can't legitimately blame HIM for that.

IMHO it's a crying shame they've got so bad live. Their first 2/3 albums were brilliant but Love Metal leaves a lot to be desired. I personally think the 'best of' album was just them cashing in but who can blame them. I would if I knew people would by it! I bought it in the sale for the DVD!! laugh.gif

I've said it before and I'll say it again: they are a current fad. Whether they are good or not seems to be irrelevant to some of their fans. They just fancy Ville. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. It obviously means HIM sell records but if that is all they are interested in they won't be around for much longer. I shall continue to listen to their older albums as they still rock *nods*
