I found out the other day that Ed and I are flying into Newark the day of the marathon in NYC. According to my friend it's going to be a real mission to get into NYC sad.gif I can't change our flight obviously so I was wondering if anyone had ever travelled to NYC from Newark before and knew how to get into the city when most of it was shut laugh.gif Trains, buses, taxis, etc.

We land at 12.35pm but what with the stringent customs checks I doubt we'll be in the real world before 2pm. I am wondering if the marathon will be done by then?

Does anyone know how much this marathon cripples NYC travel??

I'm sure I could find most information via the net but I know some of you "over the ponders" frequent the site and wondered if you had an insider info?? smile.gif

I don't remember there being much in the way of security checks when I went to San Francisco, just take the address of where you're staying....thats the only problem I had >_> tongue.gif

Yes but they only just changed it at the end of this month. They are scanning retinas and finger prints now. Not sure whether they do everyone or whatnot but I'll soon find out smile.gif

Mind you, if they let you in, they'll let anyone in tongue.gif

no shit!

I remember they were adding new security measures, I missed them by a few months in july, makes you wonder why they feel the need for a retina scan, you think they make you do it at gun point while wearing orange cover-alls? ya know, just to save the time later tongue.gif

Nothing can be as bad as a 9 hour flight to SF only to be confronted by a stupid arsey security/customs official who just didn't believe that someone with bright pink hair could possibly be an office manager dry.gif He was such a twat. Just because we weren't wearing suits he thought one of us might be a trouble maker! dry.gif I can understand wanting to be cautious but he was very rude and short with us and if it wasn't for the fact that he could've kicked us out of the US I'd have told tell him where to shove it. He turfed all Ed's clothes out of his case to have a look for god-knows-what and then just dumped it all back in. Have you any idea how long it takes to get 2 weeks of clothes back into a suitcase when you've got a stroppy American security official asking you to move along??? dry.gif

Eh, that's what being parinoid does. What you went through is a lot like what americans go through just from flying from state to state. What's worse is the people they're trying to prevent from comming here, get here anyway. Bah! anyway, I wouldn't know much about NYC. Though now that I know ya comming, I wish I had a car. I'd travel to have a bit of coffee or what-not.
