Ooh, ooh, pick me. pick me!

Been wanting one for quite a while, it's still a great idea regardless of how many privacy problems people seem to find with it, if you still have an invitation going spare.

Gmail kicks ass, it keeps emails about the same subject in a conversation so that you can either read the new mail on it's own or with all the other mails too. Additionally, you never ever have to delete anything because the thing is huge, they encourage you to archive everything. Oh yeah, and you can send and receive HUGE files and attachments.

I'm sure there's other cool stuff about it.

www.gmail.com

Free email, stipid amounts of storage (1 gig) 'cept you can't delete anything but it's searchable (with googles searching technology) but unfortunately it throws targetted adverts at you by scanning your emails for keywords.

Gotta say targetted advertising sounds much better than people trying to force stuff on you that you would never in a million years want to buy. They're having issues with privacy and data protection type legal stuff though since it scans your mail to work out what ads to give you. It's scanned automatically though, so I personally can't see the problem, since there's not actually anybody sat there reading your mail. Not deleting stuff looks like it's going to be a problem though, since the data protection act states that people have the right to tell companies to remove any of their data. I'm pretty sure adding a delete button won't cause anybody too many problems - though with all the storage it won't be needed except for data protection reasons.

</waffling and tangents>

You *can* delete things. They just suggest that you don't.

Silly me.

Okay, change all the references to deleting stuff in my other post to 'deleteing the stuff they store about you to target their adverts' then there's still some kinda point in my post smile.gif.

[edit](cheers and much smiley goodness :-D for the invite)[/edit]

Okay, you folks that want g-mail accounts, I need the name you want on it and the e-mail address you presently use to send it to.

You can send this info to katharttrup (at) gmail.com [I've editted that email address, so just replace the obvious bit with the 'at' symbol. It's best not to post email addresses on the web, especially on this site because it gets scanned so often. Robots harvest email addresses from webpages and then spam them with all kinds of junk - Mata]

Sorry Spoon, I have a habit of doing about 20 other things at the same time as IRC so probably didn't notice, otherwise I would have jumped on the chance.

How do you get the ability to give invitations to people? One of my friends is being supremely jealous now since he's been after one since it came out.

Well, you can give me their name and address... otherwise you have to wait awhile and then they'll give you your own invitations.

Again, I reiterate (Sorry, I've just realized I'm on jonman's account, but it's kisah anyway)

Anyone that wants g-mail needs to send their name and current e-mail address to katharttrup (at) gmail.com

Remember Gmail's still a beta - there's some wrinkles that still need ironing out.

If you're using an up-to-date version of IE, you should have no problem. Seems to work alright with Firefox too. Could be your crazy security settings (check firewall?).
