One rule: not emo ... here we dont wanna here your baby left you ... we want to hear the political voice of our song-makers ...

To start off, a Joe Jackson tune about nationalistic divisions, where we come from, and maybe where we're going:

Joe Jackson - Forty Years

Here in Berlin - people line up to get in
To wait for the end - living in glorious sin
They've looked around - and now there is no looking back
To when rivers ran red - now it's the sky that grows black
Shadows are cast as two giants roam over the earth
We light a match - but what is that little flame worth

Once allies danced and sang
But it was forty years ago

Here in D.C. - they talk about 'Euro-disease'
And how the French are always so damn hard to please
otions are passed in Brussels but no one agrees
And no one walks tall - but no-one gets down on their knees

Once allies laughed and drank
But it was forty years ago

Where I come from
They don't like Americans much
They think they're so loud, so tasteless, and so out of touch
Stiff upper lips are curled into permanent sneers
self-satisfied
Awaiting the next forty years

Once allies cried and cheered
But it was forty years ago

My original post was supposed to be in a different thread. How baffling. I've not had time to think of a decent response to this one, but must now cover my own arse...

I was listening to Green Day's American Idiot this morning and it felt a little more relevant than usual. Ok, so it's not a mastermind of political thoughts and philosophies, but it bitches about Bush and that's always nice.

I've broken my brain and editted this post three times now...

This is a generic anti war, anti politics song by Megadeth "symphony of destruction"

You take a mortal man, and put him in control,
Watch him become a god, Watch peoples heads a roll.... a roll.

*Chorus*
Just like the pied piper, lead rats through the streets.
We dance like marionettes, swaying to the symphony of destruction.
*End of chorus*

Acting like a robot, its metal brain corrodes.
You try to take its pulse, before the head explodes.

*Chorus*

The earth starts to rumble, world powers fall.
A warring for the heavens, a peaceful man stands tall... Tall

*Chorus*

--------------------
Responsibility: an anchor round my neck. Dependability: Made me a nervous wreck. Accountability: I live from cheque to cheque. Volatility: neglect and no respect. Got my wheels in motion, & I got a path to beat. I hit the road to I don't know, & look for tough sh*t street. One way ticket nowhere. There's no windows on this train. Can't see where I'm headed, but I'm going there again.

Primary adjunct to Mistress Snugglebums harem.
Procurement drone One of Nine

Again it's Clawfinger simply "Power to the one who doesn't want it". It doesn't quite fit the social/political situation exactly. But it is a few years old.

You're politically correct no matter what you say.
Convincing us all in every single kind of way.
Cos you frame the words so that we really believe.
That there's a depth in the message that you're trying to achieve.
So you twist your tongue to make it all sound true.
Making us believe that we haven't got a clue.
You tell us all exactly, what you think we want to hear.
With theatrical tactics, to boost your career.
Every promise you make, is just a promise you break.
And you can never admit, that you could make a mistake.
Because you say one thing and you mean something else.
You only care about yourself and your wealth so all I say is.

*Chorus*
Power to the one who doesnt want it (x4)
Do you want it? Why do you want it?
*End chorus*

With your military mind, you were born a leader.
And discipline and order is an every day procedure.
So bring out the man in every innocent boy.
And teach them how to kill, so they can search and destroy.
To protect and to serve and die with honour and pride.
You say you're fighting for peace but that's the biggest lie.
You're preparing for war, and your martial law.
But you don't know what its for anymore. so all I say is

*chorus*

power is a sickness
power is to blame
power is a weapon and it's driving me insane
power is an enemy
power is pain
power is a war but to you it's just a game
power is glory
power is gold
power is chaos and you're out of control
power isn't freedom
power is a cage
power is your sin and it feeds my rage.

Please try to remember, when reading my posts, that I've probably not watched the same films & tv shows as you. I try not to watch music vids & I've also probably not even heard about them from other people. Man to woman "If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong!"/She's all lips & hips, she knows how to use them to make you flip//Liquor store & gun store, next to one another, with only one purpose, so you all kill each other,//Member of the pro cath association // Froggys' sugar-e-daddy//You can't spell politics without tics/[b]/Note to self: Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations = human stupidity.Dip me in chocolate and throw me to the females (not shemales).

Almost anything by The Clash is political, but the most obvious one is probably Spanish Bombs.

Holiday in the Sun by The Pistols was also about the Berlin wall.

As was Berlin by Lou Reed.

As was Berlin Wall by Johnny Clegg.

Basically all SOADS albums are based on political and social injustices but one track that stands out for me with its meaning is "Toxicity"

Conversion, software version 7.0
looking at life through the eyes of a tired hub
eating seeds as a pastime activity
the toxicity of our city, of our city

Now, what do you own the world?
how do you own disorder, disorder
Now somewhere between the sacred silence
Sacred silence and sleep
somewhere, between the sacred silence and sleep
disorder, disorder, disorder

More wood for the fires, loud neighbours
flishlight riveries caught in the headlights of a truck
eating seeds as a pastime activity
the toxicity of our city, of our city
Now, what do you own the world?
how do you own disorder, disorder
Now somewhere between the sacred silence
Sacred silence and sleep
somewhere between the sacred silence and sleep
disorder, disorder, disorder

Now, what do you own the world?
how do you own disorder, disorder
Now somewhere between the sacred silence
Sacred silence and sleep
somewhere, between the sacred silence and sleep
disorder, disorder, disorder

Alright, this is probably one of my favorite songs ever, and it's political too, you just got to read into it a little. "One Beat" by Sleater-Kinney

I'm a bubble in a sound wave
A sonic push for energy
Exploding like the sun
A flash of clean light hope
All you scientists can hold your breath
Can I decide to show myself, oh oh

Oh oh oh...
(Take me to the source of chaos let me be the butterfly
oh my, imperfect symmerty has underlying poetry in rhyme

If you think like Thomas Edison
Could you invent a world for me
Now all that's on the surface
Are bloody arms and oil fields
Could I turn this place all upside down
And shake you and your fossils out, oh oh

Oh oh oh...
(You can't predict everything with Newton like certainty, why
Oh my, coz it floats around all we see with oscillating energy on high)

And you soothe yourself with the sounds you know
You tune out out out the hypnotic drone
Perfect hexagon of the honeycomb
And you soothe your soul with the shapes you know

Should I come outside and run your cars
Should I run your rockets to the stars
Could you invent a world for me
I need to hear a symphony
If I'm to run the future
You've got to let the old world go, oh oh

Oh oh oh...
(Take me to the source of chaos let me be the butterfly
oh my, imperfect symmetry has underlying poetry in rhyme)

And you soothe yourself with the sounds you know
You tune out out out the hypnotic drone
Perfect hexagon of the honeycomb
And you soothe your soul with the shapes you know

Your word for me is fusion
But is real change an illusion
Could I turn this place all upside down
And shake you and your fossils out

If I'm to run the future
You've got to let the old world go
Could you invent a world for me
I need to hear a symphony, oh oh

Oh oh oh...
(You can't predict everything with Newton like certainty, why
Oh my, coz it floats around all we see with oscillating energy on high)
