A guy i know invited me to his 18th birthday party today and it has a fancy dress theme of having to go as a film character. Thing is, i'm pretty stuck for influential and cool female roles in films... If all else fails i was thinking of going as a sort of female version of Alex from A Clockwork Orange avec false eyelashes and bowler hat, but perhaps with a slightly more female slant on the white boiler suit.
What do you all think? Any suggestions?

I had a friend (Brothers girlfriend, in fact....) Who was a femme version of Alex for halloween. She wore white bondage pants, some punk band wifebeater with a white very fitted sortah little blazer over it, bowler hat too *nod* It looked rather nice!

Otherwise.... are you looking for a sexy sortah outfit or just anything? You could go as Magenta from Rocky Horror Picture Show!

*ahem* magenta doesn't exactly wear clothes. Scraps of a maid's outfit, yes, but not clothes *stops being a snob*

I like the Alex idea, especially the bowler. smile.gif

So what did you do? I presume the party has started or perhaps ended by now, as it's past 11 your time, and I am quite curious.

Oooh lol i'm realising i made that slightly unclear. What i meant was that i'd got invited yesterday...the party isn't until 8th Jan so i still have a fair amount of time for planning! biggrin.gif
I'm not sure about the Alex outfit yet...i don't think i could get hold of some kind of white suit readily enough, but i can try i suppose.
And as for the Rocky Horror Picture Show, call me ceraazy but i haven't actually seen it yet, although might i add, through no fault of my own. When i went to rent it from the video store a few months ago they let me hire it and everything but when i opened it at home i discovered 'Cats' instead. I was most unamused. Not that i don't like Cats, but i've seen it a thousand times and when i got refunded they realised that someone had actually stolen it. sad.gif
Anyhoo...that's me going slightly off on a tangent into the realms of my video store escapades, which seem to dominate a fair portion of my life at the moment...
Thanks for your help though...you're far more supportive than those on other message boards who tell me to simply go as Lindsay Lohan from Mean Girls or Keira Knightley. :S

The world's your mollusc.

Tie a couple of saucepans together with coathangers. Ta-da! Princess Leia's metal bikini. Attach a bagel to each side of your head, and you've even got the hairdo.

Get an old wedding dress. Rub some grot into it. Toss a load of gel into your hair, and make a huge bloody mess of it. Ta-da! Marla from Fight Club.

Get a bob (haircut). Dye your hair black. Wear flat shoes, wander around being mischievious and mumbling in French. Ta-da! Amelie.

Lots of PVC and you're Trinity from The Matrix.

Skimpy hotpants and a vest top and you're Lara Croft.

Flame-thrower, vest-top, and a nine-year-old, and you're Ripley from Aliens.

Lots of red and a pair of sai and you're Electra (from Daredevil and quite groovy looking upcoming eponymous film).

Something about the idea of turning up to a party clutching a flamethrower with a small child is tow is wrong. Very very wrong.

Go classy. Dress up like a classic movie actress. You may not be recognized right off the bat, but you'll look classy and it'll make a good conversation piece! biggrin.gif Here's a good link that could help you out.

Classic Actresses Listing

Let me tell you, Audrey Hepburn had some NICE outfits. And who can forget the little black dress, black satin gloves, and long cigarette holder she had in Breakfast at Tiffany's And Marilyn Monroe should always be recognized. It would be a sin for her not to be! And who can ever forget the dance scenes Ginger Rogers did with Fred Astaire? Absolutely breathtaking....

Classy actress! Ooh!
Hepburn, either one will do (I liked Audrey better, but Kate was nifty)

Clara Bow! Fringy dress and dark lipstick! must.....*scrambles off*

Wow, that post made no sense whatsoever. I apologize!

What I meant to say was:

Why don't you go as one of the Hepburns? Audrey had more of a feminine style, so she often had cooler outfits, but Kate was the awesome wearer of mens pants. Unheard of!

Clara Bow was also a cool actress. She was a silent film star in the twenties who shocked people by wearing short dresses and dark lipstick (you could say a flapper, I guess). She was also one of the first women with really short hair--not like a bob, more of a long pixie. I dressed up as her for Halloween and it was tres fun.

Try Goodwill (or some store like it). I tremble before the might of Goodwill.

Since you haven't seen Rocky Horror, I'd probably advise not dressing up as one of the characters. It might send the wrong message, but then I'm no Emily Post, nor am I Dear Abby, so perhaps I should end this post while it's still under two thousand letters.

*shrinks away*

Woah...i'm incredibly sorry i abandonned this post (and this board really) for such a long while...you all came up with some fantastic ideas! I particularly liked the 'classic actress' idea. Didn't Katherine Hepburn wear some crazy dresses as well? And very odd things in her hair. biggrin.gif
Anyhoo...party was last night. I decided to go as Alex from A Clockwork Orange in the end and managed to get hold of white trousers, a fitted white shirt, black bowler hat, false eyelashes for one eye, clumpy black shoes, and silver-topped cane to complete my outfit. biggrin.gif
Excellent party. smile.gif I have the best video footage of me making everyone in costume act in the role of their character. laugh.gif
Oh and the guy who's party it was asked me out on New Year's Eve so we'd been going out for a week, which was nice because i got introduced to all his friends properly and they are all so entirely sweet. smile.gif
Thanks again all of you.

An no one thought that she might be able to go as the Little Goth Girl? She's an actress too. I'm sure she doesn't spend all her time in Mata's story lines. I'm rather shocked really. tongue.gif
