I gave blood today, thought I'd share that with you. I've been excited about it since monday. I was originally tempted in by the free biscuits and drinks you get and I think I'll give whenever I can now. It's quite odd that the person who took my blood is the mum of a girl who likes to sit next to me when I do the microphones at a church. Was quite suprised.

My friend Matt came in with me as he forgot his key that day so wanted to kill time. In the 1to1 interview she asked if I was with him so I jokingly said that he was here to hold my hand and stuff and she directed me to read the passage about not giving blood if you've had anal or oral sex with another man.

Anywho thought I'd share it with you.

Thank you smile.gif

My friend is now in the clear from a nasty cancer and needed a lot of blood transfusions, people like you saved his life, so thank you.

I would like to give blood, I walk past the blood donor place in Nottingham everytime I go to college but I'm afraid it'll hurt or something.

Maybe one day if someone comes with me, it's something I *really* want to do. It's so worth while!

Yay Teapot!

You're a good bloke. According to the Canadian blood services you helped save three people's lives.

I've tried to give blood several times. When I say "tried" I mean I've made appointments, showed up, sat in the chair, and been pricked in the elbow with the needle over and over again until the nurse gets fed up with looking for a vein. And the couple of times they've actually found anything the blood flow gets cut off too early for some reason, so the bags are too small. Apparently I've got really, really deep veins, so donating blood is pretty much out of the picture for me unless they come up with a smaller needle to take from my wrist. dry.gif But on the plus side (very small plus...) I've got the notoriety of having stumped every single blood van worker in four counties, every single blood center worker in two counties, and every single nurse at my local hospital!

I have a long standing deal with my friends, I can't give blood as I'm too little and on a lot of medication all the time but for every pint of blood they donate I will buy them a pint of beer (or equivalent drink or chocolate) to make up for their loss!

This is usually ok, but backfired the day my brother rounded up all his mates, all 16 of them and marched them down the local leasure centre to donate, that was expensive!

The needle doesn't hurt at all snoo. Just take a mate and make them give too, think of the tea and biscuit they give you! I hate needles too but the nurse said I had some morbid facination with the blood, kept asking what things do and asking if I can poke my blood bag.

I'm not allowed to give blood as I had a complete blood transfusion when I was about 6 weeks old because I was severely anaemic. I'm also petrified of needles and practically faint every time I have to have an injection so I suppose that's not an altogether bad thing.

Well done and thank you anyway Mr Teapot! smile.gif

She lives in Canada, and I believe if you've been out of the country for a certain amount of time there's a waiting period before you can donate blood.

America has a crappy thing about not letting you donate if you've spent too long in a foreign country. And sad as it is, England is listed on the threat list. Mad cow disease and all that crud.

I'd say the needle doesn't hurt, and it truly didn't when I donated, but I have a weird thing about not feeling pain when I should, so I'm not the best to advise on this.

That's something I want to do, and as soon as my blood is toxin-free - by my best estimation it's a bit iffy right now - I'm going to do it.

I gave blood three times, all three times I passed out. *sigh* I think I've got some sort of subconscious thing against needles and blood.

Anyways, the third time they told me never to come back again. ouch. >_<

I've been put off blood ever since my mum nearly died after having lord-knows-how-many-units of the stuff pumped into her. It just seems a teeny bit risky, as you can never be sure than blood is 100% safe.

Meh, oh well.

I've wanted to give blood for ages because I know the importance that blood transfusions have. But I can't for two reasons...

1. Genetics hate me - I'm at high risk of hereditary blood diseases
.
2. I've engaged in 'contact' with another man. That puts a **BIG** stop to my willingness to donate...

Meh.

But well done to all those who have, or intend to, given blood.

Yuppers. Only as far as I know, I can't donate blood ever, here. BSE and all that, which I happen to think is crap, as we've found cases here, and no one's going nuts over that.

I used to give blood regularly, until I started on antidepressents... Now I get flagged for liver Enzymes, which apparently get out of whack for any number of reasons, including Medication, Aids, liver Disease, and so forth.... They don't want to take a chance, so they refuse my donations... sad.gif

I used to give blood every six months, the last time I went was just after the 9/11 crash where the nurse took one look at my arm and all the self harm scars and then proceeded to tell me that I should pull myself together, stop feeling sorry for my self and think of all the people who died in the twin towers.

Ever since then I have just not been able to go and give blood, which is bad I know and I will try to give blood next time they come round.
