Welcome to the Year of the Rooster!

Apparently not a good year to get married and children born in this year are a bit eccentric. tongue.gif

Hope people wore lucky red today. laugh.gif I forgot but that's life sometimes.

The Year of the Rooster? You do mean the Year of the Cock, don't you - I mean, every Chinese food placemat I've ever seen said Cock on it, but maybe they're all wrong. But anyway, if it's the year of the Cock, I can think of some great ways to celebrate... biggrin.gif

In all seriousness to those who might actually be celebrating, Happy New Year.

We made a card and gave it to our chinese food lady. We also got free fortune cookies, my fortune is on the up! I didn't wear red but I wore a cool chinese style shirt.

Gung hei fat choy!

Went to church for Ash Wednesday and then popped over to Yip Phong's for a lovely massive Chinese feast with about 14 other medicine and dentistry students. I love authentic Chinese cuisine. Mmm. Although Canadian-Chinese food is tasty sometimes too.

Anyway, all this chat of food made me hungry.

Ah yes, I was caught unaware and chastised by a Chinese friend. I think it's also some sort of custom to give money - didn't get it explained well by her. She gave me a dime and told me not to spend it. I gave her a quarter. I think that has some other meaning to it.

That would be really scary.

I was born in the year of the rabbit...I'm not sure what that means.

I do know that when I get really angry or upset though I have a birth mark that shows up in the middle of my forehead in the shape of a rabbit's head.......
It's not as easy to see as it was when I was younger.

Freaky -- non?

Not sure what the Ox stands for, but it sounds down to earth, reliable...

I was born in the year of the Ox, too. I wasn't too thrilled when I found out for the first time, but after a while I've come to enjoy it. Sometimes methodical, patient, and slow to temper are good things.

I was in Beijing for Chinese New Year (Or as they call it, Spring Festival)

Turns out it's not exactly a party like our New years. It's more like our Christmas. Everyone stays at home with their family and has roast... rice or something.

Oh! And then they set off lots of fireworks.

I was on the plane over Beijing at night on the second day of the Spring Festival and all throughout the city you could see little tiny flashes of firecrackers and big quick flashes of fireworks. It was awesome.
