I've decided to give up caffiene for Lent. It hasn't even been a day and I already want to bail. What weirdness prompted me to give up chocolate right before Valentine's Day?

I'm not a big fan of Lent, but I thought I'd start being a full-on vegetarian again. Just to see what recipes I could come up with, and also to avoid nasty hotdogs for dinner.

I used to give up Lutheranism as a joke, back when I was a Lutheran. I still might give it up.

I gave up the 'O_o' (hey, I'm allowed to use it to explain that I gave it up) smiley.

Only slipped 4 times yesterday! blink.gif

I gave up IRC, but as anyone who was in there last night will tell you I fell flat on my face at the first hurdle!

I'm giving up that smiley as well, but only to not be an evil influence on moop. I haven't slipped up a single time, though. *gloats*

I'm also giving up the game "I have never..." Granted, that's not very difficult, but it is an evil game and must be stopped somehow!

I'm specifically giving up eating McDonald's and Burger King, cause it costs me money I don't need to spend, it's bad for me, and I spend more time out of school not studying while I get it unsure.gif

Last year I gave up Dr.Pepper. God that killed me!

I gave up Dr Pepper last year too. I hardly drink it now, yay for the lack of the scummy aftertaste it gives when you drink too much of it!

I never give anything up for lent anymore, I used to as a kid, which was weird because I wasn't a Christian, my parents weren't Christians, and I didn't do any other Christian stuff.

In fact - I intend to push all of my vices into overdrive during lent so that I can rub it in the faces of all the people I know who have given stuff up.

Lent is just a form of self - torture really. laugh.gif

That's precisely what it's intended to be. Self-denial, for the purpose of bringing Christians closer to the God and further from earthly desires. Effective for those who practice and believe such things (more power to them!) but surfacely silly for the rest of us.

I started off intending to give up ALL caffeine, well I almost succeeded.

The only caffeine harbouring substance I've failed on is chocolate but even then I dont have it often anyway so giving it up seems mildly pointless.

Now giving up coffee whoa thats another thing!
I can say without fear or favour I am an addict, so giving it up has meaning for me and is a difficult challenge too!

Although my beliefs are going through a bit of a strange patch right now this still helps me to focus on things so I'll keep it up. Should it ever become a pointless exercise I'll stop but until then no more coffee this Lent. biggrin.gif

I agree - I find I'm also a java addict and doing without my morning cuppa is very hard. Especially as I can't just have a cup of tea instead - caffeine again. Herbal tea just isn't the same for prying open the eyes and making morning acceptable.

So far I've been very good. Coffee calls with a siren's voice though.

Regardless of the fact I'm not christian, I'm giving up pastries for lent. I feel like given I lead a pretty priviledged lifestyle, giving something up once in a while is no bad thing, and it helps me appreciate what I have more </cheesiness>. Unfortunately, there goes my monday/tuesday/thursday lunchtime apple danish *cries*

What was I thinking? tongue.gif

And theres no way in hell I could ever give up coffee. I would die. lol.

edit: And my friend gave up sex. Her b/f is not happy tongue.gif
