The computer we bought in 2000 with Windows ME loaded on it and later XP loaded over it finally keeled over and died. Thankfully, we still have the hard drive connected by USB (I haven't checked if that's connected yet) but I'm going through all the usual downloading software stuff that you do with a new computer. No new monitor, but new keyboard. The computer is much faster, the box itself is much more revolutionary and useful, and I am very grateful. Just one of those things that makes your day. I saw it when I came home from school. biggrin.gif

Never do the auto-install from a Windows ME machine. Wipe the whole thing and start again. It's the only way to stop the machine from dying later on!

Ah yes, this was why it died...sounds like a good idea for future reference. Hopefully I'll never have to deal with ME at all again, though.

And our speakers weren't too compatible for some odd reason, so I got new ones with a nice subwoofer. If more specs are needed it's a Compaq Presario and it has upwards of 512 RAM. Lightning fast, and I took advantage of the all-new computer to download an use Winamp and Firefox instead of WMP and IE.

*Grumbles bitterly* Wish I'd know that earlier, would've saved me a lot of trouble...gah.

Family had to get a new comp to replace the one with Me (which went pfffft and died); thissun has XP, which is poo. Although I'm sure XP is still better than ME, I'll never know because shortly after getting the shiny new comp, the tower took a flying leap off the desk (compliments of my endearing brother). It is less enthusiatic about working in general now. I have 98 on my laptop, which isn't a bad program except that it refuses to ackknowledge the USP port it very clearly has, making my dig camera and graphics tab bunk. It doesn't help that the screen's come off (which is not my fault, unlike the laptop that died after I catapulted it into a wall by sitting on the opposite end of an unfolded futon, which was).

...computers hate me.

Excuse me while I display my complete technological inferiority but why is ME so bad? I've never had it, my laptop and home PC are both XP and before that the House PC was '98 but...why is it bad?

In small words please tongue.gif

...

Everything. It's glitchy and crashes a lot and freezes and gets viruses and spyware all too easily and it's just terrible.

*hugs XP, puts away bad memories of ME*

Yep, I suffered a lot from a bad ME auto-upgrade experience. In the end the whole thing upped and died on me. 'Back-up then reformat' is the only way to upgrade an OS.

ME... It didn't give you access to settings that an experienced user wants because M$ assumed that you couldn't possibly know what you want to do better than them. Badly assembled, unstable, horrible, nasty, ick... And it made nearby statues weep blood. It was that bad.
