While plugging my corset shop today I found a rather fun Live Journal community called 'Closet Goths', http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=closetgoths

I like their description:

QUOTE
The only thing more misunderstood than a goth, is a Closet Goth.

Hello, friend. We here at closetgoths are not goth and never were (well, except for that one time). In fact, we are the polar opposites of. We're just into gothy things, more than we're willing to admit. The art, music, the fashion... even bats are sorta cool. But you didn't hear it from us. A "closet goth" is not a budding goth, but the sort of person that keeps this facet of their personality concealed in a little box, with a padlock. In other words, we simply observe and admire. When no one is watching, that is.

So if you are goth, or believe you are goth, or wish you could be a little more goth, this is not the place for you. You defeat the purpose of our mission statement. So come back in 5 years after your phase is over.

Hey look! If I read the stuff correctly, which I never do, then I think this image should update itself each week to give the past week's top artists for the matazone group on last.fm. I edited the first post in this thread to put it there as well, so it'll always be easy to find for those of you who care.

And while you're reading this, how about joining the group? The charts'll look far more impressive if we get more people scrobbling.

What is with this massive love for the arcade fire? They're not that great.

To answer Sean's question fromm about a month ago, I'm probably the other one listening to small amounts of Tull.

And if you haven't signed up, you should! It's a great way to discover even MORE music, and make friends, and obsess about your favorite bands in other small groups biggrin.gif

The one I don't get is System Of A Down, they look and sound like Weird Al doing a mickey take of goth metal. I saw one of their videos a few months ago for the first time, after having heard all the hype about how great they are. I couldn't stop laughing! Are these guys serious?

I've been listening to last.fm most of the day... it's pretty cool, I just put in a few bands I like and it plays them and bands similar to them. It would be even cooler if I could name bands I like off the top of my head so I had more than about 5 bands on the list but hey, what you gonna do?

Wow, this so probably counts as necroposting but I don't care.

Has everyone stopped listening to music or what? I looked at the group yesterday and over half of the people on there hadn't listened to anything for over a week.
last.fm is awesome, people! You should love it and hug it and use it!

Yeah, I'm jibbering but I don't care! If you have any decency you will stop My Chemical Romance* being the #1 in the group chart again!!!

*Disclaimer: I actually like MCR, not so much their new stuff but the first alum was good and the second one had its good bits...

I recently found all my music from high school and put it back on my comp, and I've turned off scrobbling till I get rid of all the stuff I don't actually want. There's lots of bad stuff in there which I'm slowly deleting Eminem, Led Zeppelin etc.

If you're a Mac user then iScrobbler will do that. Basically it updates Audioscrobbler whenever you sync your iPod and also when you play songs through iTunes. Not sure if there's a PC equivalent though.

You all should be listening to Zombie Girl, in particular a track called 'Bleeder'. There's a fantastic industrial remix on her site:

http://www.zombie-girl.com/Main.html

It's official: goth industrial does have a sense of humour.

Lol, I thought I might get some heat for that. Truthfully I haven't knowingly listened to an entire Led Zeppelin song so it's kinda unfair of me to call them bad. How about I take it back and replace it with Mudvayne or The Pimps or something?

Prepare for mutiny! Just knowing the option is there is too tempting.

Also, after my last post I went and deleted 170ish songs and started scrobbling again. I don't know if I'm actually gonna be any help taking MCR down.

Oh, see, now that's still enough to warrant a kick to the manpoon. I mean, come on! They've even got a song about hobbits! Next thing you're going to tell me is that you've never even heard any Lynyrd Skynyrd.

I can do you one better, the reason I dislike Zeppelin is cause when I was younger (not much younger) I could never keep straight which was which between them and Skynyrd, I got their names mixed up. Also, I'm not sure if it's possible to have been living in America the last 5-10 years without hearing Sweet Home Alabama, it was everywhere a few years back.

Well, that's understandable, I guess. Skynyrd's American. Zeppelin isn't.

This sort of feels like a conversation we should be having on the Scrobbler board.
