he's 78 already, fat chance of the long life bit
and he's described as 'conservative' by most catholics so I think the second bit is unlikely sad.gif

Well done the Catholic church, how to tread a golden oppertunity into the dirt.

And did you know that the 'white smoke' that told people that a new pope had been elected, was acvtually so dirty grey that people thought it was black, until the bells rang.

A harbinger of things to come maybe?

Possibly. If my modern prophecy knowledge is correct, we are to have a pope that is supposed to have a short reign, then we will have Pope Peter, who will denounce the existance of God.

Then a lot of bad things will happen and somewhere in the mix will come the End of Days. Scary stuff, ain't it?

Why not just call him anything other than Peter?

Oh and apparently, the short reign of this pope will lead to a more liberal and younger Pope. Using the idea that two negatives make a plus (not to say the pope is negative, just an analogy) as people will be bored of this style of pope and go for a change of pace.

I'm waiting for the Catholic church to split, with many catholics seceeding from the Papacy, and forming a new, reformed Catholicism, that is more responsive to people's needs... this will happen only If/when a Charismatic leader arises to oppose the new Pope. the Catholic masses are only waiting for someone to show them the way... and the reformed Catholicism will reject the concept of the Pope, and the Vatican... I can see this happening, or at least starting, within the next decade. It'll be interesting to see if it happens, this way...

And, after seeing pictures of the new Pope, and reading about him, I think, if I bought into Christian apokolypsian mythology, I'd be inclined to beleive that he is the anti-Christ... To me, he looks (And sounds) evil. And what better place for evil to hide then the Papacy?

...Don't people (like the ones that made that photo) have anything better to do than crucify the man for mandatory membership in a youth organization during the Nazi regime? Would they prefer he'd refused and have been shot or put himself and his family on some list? I bet -that- would have showed the Nazis and saved Jews. If he had made anti-semitic remarks as a cardinal thats one thing, but really.. meh. mad.gif

I do have a sense of humor or try too.. I just don't see a great deal of humor surrounding Hitler and his rise to power. heh. Its also disgusting to watch people bring up something as weak as this, as if it proves something.

Oh lighten up. It's just a joke. Every head of an organisation has fun poked at them once in a while; it comes with the territory. It's not meant as anything deeply racist or facist, just a bit of harmless fun. Too, I wasn't trying to 'sully' the new Pope's name, I was just sharing a picture that amused me - like Novander did way up there.

As I said, lighten up.

I don't need commands, thanks. wink.gif If I wanted to attack you specifically, I am capable of using names in my posts. But I refrained because I figured you didn't mean it as a personal attack on the pope and that whole politeness bit. It doesn't mean that I can't find it stupid or offensive that people put that much effort into it, when people are bringing this up as an issue in other contexts.

And if I find nazi's more offensive than orcs, its my perogative and not entirely hard to grasp. I'd appreciate it if you respected that, like I tried to do with you. Everyone's got things that do or don't bug them. Thats just the way it goes. And as this is Daft and Novander's thread, I shall hush.

Quoth: I dunno, Congress seems to be another hot spot for evil to hide in. wink.gif

:blinks: Am I the only person on the planet whose life isn't directly affected by the change of pope? I mean, I won't say it doesn't mildly interest me, but even non-catholics, even non-christians are taking it so seriously...

Well, I find it mildly interesting, but if I hadn't seen threads on here, I definitely wouldn't have given it a second thought. Its just not something that affects my corner of the world much.

I'm interested in it for three reasons:

1 the decision effects the lives of millions, especially in regards to those who will most likely die to to illnesses that could have been prevent with contraception. The new guy is massively unlikely to do anything about this, which really saddens me.

2 major religions and their extremists seem to suddenly be having global influence, from Islamic terrorists to concervative Christians thinking that they have the right to tell everyone else how they should live and what the laws should be. When a major figure in one of these religions changes its quite interesting.

3 it has been shoved down our throats on every news media outlet for the last few weeks, and in the absence of proper news we end up talking about what we are given.
