I might as well jump in for PsychWardMike here and say Dante for the Devil May Cry series. I don't personally like his outfit, but I figure Mike would jump on the chance to say this so I thought I'd get there first biggrin.gif

Okay, so who has the best outfits in games?

Give your answer, a link to an image (unless you are hosting the image yourself it's not very polite to other people's bandwidth to hotlink it directly from their site) if you can find one, and some reasons if you fancy providing some.

ALSO, don't forget to comment on at least one suggestion made before you. This is a forum, it's about communication, so I'd rather not just have a dry list of names and pictures.

Personally I like Sephiroth from Final Fantasy 7

Sephiroth pic

I liked his final outfit the most, with the single set of armour on one arm, but I can't find an image of that. I think this one stuck in my head because it was the first time I'd seen a one-winged creature in a game, which was a nice design choice.

So who do you like?

And yes. I was going to vote Dante. Now I'm all dejected. *whimper*

However, Raphael and other Raphael or Killik are pretty Snazzy.

As for the girls? Gimme some time.

I'd have to agree that both Kelik and Raphael are quite snazzy.

However.

Ramirez

As for girls, I'm afraid that most are too provacatively dressed to be snazzy, that is, until I found Jade of Beyond Good and Evil

Jade Jade 2 and Jade 3 Tastefull but still cool happy.gif

It's all about the accessorising:

A hair-bow and a pair of boxing gloves: hubba hubba!

Then there's the bit in FF7 where Cloud (or Storm, or Squall, or whatever his name is) dresses up in drag. Saucy! (can't find a link).

As ludicrous as the whole concept of dresspheres is, I thought the heroes' character designs in FFX-2 were outstanding.

For best dressed male though, I'm thinking something classic. After all, black goes with everything.

The male Ranger outfits and the Female Necro outfits in GW are some of the most flattering, well-crafted, well-thought out, and sensible that I've ever seen. Minus the necro scar armor that's nothing BUT scars, much like the infamous Monk tattoo armor....

For non MMO's....gimme a bit.

Here's a good screenshot. The lady on the left is Necromancer Munne (if I'm not mistaken, that is). Her armor is perfectly suited for what she's supposed to be, it's not over-exagerated, and she's not falling out of the top.

Here's an even better one. It's even more sensible and fun while still not being tedious or tacky. I love the skirt and, in fact, this is the armor look that I usually go for.

Here's some more good Necro armor. The Bonelace armor on the left isn't my favorite, but meh, some people like running around in bikinis with lace.

Here's Here'ssome of the highest male ranger armor, dyed black. Very sexy, if I do say so myself. Can't wait until Randy gets there. :: purrs::

Ham Slice Woman from REZ.

EDIT: If any one of you ever gets the chance to play REZ, do so AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. That screenshot does not do the game justice.

'Cause the bakcground music is all *bfft ckshh bfft ckshh* and when you lock on to targets it's all *ticka-ticka-ticka-ticka* and when you fire at your targets they're all *haah-haah-heeh*

PLAY THAT GAME.

I could be wrong, but I could've sworn the main character is more masculine in form than feminine. Rez is great. Rez on a widescreen TV with dolby 5.1 is better. It's one of those games that makes you realise how needless complex graphics are, and at the same time how a strong style games simple things look great.

Yeah, I especially enjoyed the audio. Everything has a rhythm to it, and even explosions are musical!

But then again, the two "final" forms and the very first (think disco ball) don't really HAVE genders.

*chuckles* I still remember the "Space Buddha" form.

Metal Gear has some interesting choices in it. Snake's mullet hair-cut is particularly unusual. Olga in MGS: Sons of Liberty (?number 3?) has to be the first woman in a game that I've seen with under-arm hair. Like I say, interesting. It's nice that they did something a bit out of the ordinary... Shame the gameplay itself is rather ordinary.

I think it's already been mentioned, but that night-vision single-lens goggle in Splinter Cell is very iconic and a great example of a simple thing defining the look and feel of a game.

I'm finding this thread interesting, because, despite a vast history of games playing and probably thousands of design-hours spent on the outfits, I really can't remember many costumes from games characters other than the easy ones (Lara Croft, Dizzy, Strider).

Although it's a bit like Ford's old 'you can have any colour as long as it's black - you can wear anything as long as it's gangster-style. I never really did work out what was supposed to count for sex appeal in that game...

I dunno, there's the leisure suit and the leapord cowboy hat. *shudders* None of the above do anything for respect OR sex apeal.

And the tweed suit looks pretty nice. Does that count as gangster? Well, if you count "Tony Montana-esque" as Gangster.

For the record, Sons of Liberty was number 2.

And I think Sonic was particularly well dressed. Hot red sneakers that matched with every other one of his companions*

*I thought it was real sweet how Sonic and Tails matched. Call me corny, but I think it's cute when couples match.

I hope they're joking about the gun... I'm really bored of every game under the planet deciding that it needs guns to be interesting. Streets of Rage had a sensible system: you could pick up the guns of baddies, but they'd probably only work for a shot or two, then you had to throw away the gun and go back to using your fists and feet. Certainly there is a certain dark glamour to weapons, but if you want to feel an impact then it always needs to be up-close and personnal like in the first Jak & Daxter game.

Back on topic: I think the character design in the Project Zero/Fatal Frame series is generally very high. Not neccessarily the main characters (which aren't bad either) but the ghosts. They scare the hell out of me! It's a combination of how they look and how they move, but altogether they make very memorable enemies http://www.gamekult.com/tout/forum/lire_14...J000051479.html
