After a year of having a suspended liscense, I'm officially legal to drive again. I had to jump through a bunch of hoops, take a crappy twelve-hour course and sign up for this expensive-ass high-risk insurance policy just so I can get that damn piece of plastic.

It's weird, though, because the liscenses are vertical if you're under 21 (I'm 20). They used to be like my state ID, except with a banner that said "Driver Liscense" instead of "Identification Card" (I'd have a photo comparison, but the batteries in my digi cam died; stay tuned, kids). I still have my state ID for travel and what-not.

THe story goes like this: Last year, I got into an accident (non-DUI) and ended up having too many points on my liscense. I would only get my liscense back if I jumped through a bunch of hoops, took a crappy twelve-hour course and signed up for expensive-ass high-risk insurance. I didn't do it at first because, frankly, the idea of driving scared me. It took me over a year to get over my fear of driving and it's paid off.

I don't have a car as of yet, but I'm looking into buying my brother's old Couger (I, however, am Captain Broke-Up regarding money). I probably wouln't really be able to drive anywhere out of this town and definately not into the city. I figure I'll work my way up from driving in town to driving around the eastern half of the county to driving south to the ferry and to my sister's place on the other side and then, eventually, the highway.

I'm really proud of myself for getting this back. I know it doesn't seem like much, but it's an accomplishment for me.

EDIT: My God, that's a horrible picture.

Nice one for getting back on the road again, just drive carefully, okay?

It sounds like you're going to be sensible and build up to more challenging drives a bit at a time, which seems like a very good idea.

I agree wholeheartedly in building up the driving challenge! (although there's not much of that in Jacksonville other than trucks trying to run you over and silly yuppie moms in SUVs and cell phones and puppies and children)

Just, no running me over until -after- the Glasgow meet, yeah?

Don't worry. I won't be driving in J-ville anytime soon. I'll probably have a hard enough time getting the confidence to drive around town or into the other towns in my county. When I do, Ziv, don't be suprised if I show up at your door and say, "Get your boney ass in the car. We're going to Five Points."

Driving, to me, is still scary. I'll do my absolut best to overcome my fear of driving, which will mainly consist of driving like an old lady. I have friends two towns over who are pissed because I still can't come pick them up. Honestly, just being able to drive to the jiff and get a Lost will be an accomplishment!

To the left, my state-issued photo ID. To the right, my state-issued driver's liscense.

I don't get it either.

Err, is it just me, or is posting an image of what's basically a legal document on the internet a bit dodgy? You could at least blank out the numbers.

Better?

BTW, the reason the text looks crappier than intended was that the program wouldn't let me change the text size for some reason.

At least you can't read it anymore. I'm not sure if it would matter anyway, but it can't hurt to do it smile.gif.
