Happy 4th, ya'll! So what's everyone doing? I'm making a big, big feast (including Green Bean Casserole, Cheese Bread, Steak Fries, Van Camp's Original Baked Beans, and BBQed steak) and am going to watch the giant fireworks desplay over Lake Union later tonight. Then after that Randy and I are going to watch movies together (Assault on Precinct 13, Madagascar, and maybe Star Wars: Episode III).

I took this opportunity to explore my right to be stinky and lazy. I spent the day on my couch, unshowered until 5 p.m., watching the 3 disc set of the recently released, "Indecision 2004" the Daily Shows coverage of the 2004 elections.

... My power went out for about 2 hours. dry.gif

Other than that, I went out to dinner and saw some fireworks from afar. =)

...mum and I went to the mall only to find they were closing early. Then we aimlessly wandered around the park in downtown noting the food stands, the insane amount of ice cream (as compared to the year before), and lack of actual things to do until fireworks. Mum made fun of the PETA people while I got a hot dog bun with lettuce and tomato. Then we had ice cream later on just before fireworks started.

Now, the funny thing is, every year I beg and plead to go see the fireworks downtown and every year I hide behind someone because I am deathly afraid of them. This year, though, was a good year. They lit them off a little ways down the river so they were far enough away that I wasn't terrified of them.

Yeah, I finally got to see my first fireworks show after going to them for 7 years and hiding whenever it started.

And my mum made cinnamon raisin french toast... and i couldn't eat it -.- soooo depressing, eating disorders.

That's a... real interesting hobby, Irishguy.

Watching the fireworks display, eating some sherbet and otherwise kickin' it.

I slept most of the day and have played on the computer since. With a break to play with rottweiler.

We built a bonfire and spent some time experimenting with what will burn and what will not. (Note to self: plastic plates smell terrible). And then turning the fire funny colors. And then...hairspray. There was blasting of Chili Peppers and Dave Matthews, and illegal neighbors shooting off illegal fireworks.

Funny how we celebrate our nation's birth by breaking about half of its fire code laws.

It was mutti's birthday as well, so we wandered around some shops, went out to dinner, and ate ice cream cake. Nothing much;we're a bunch of reclusive hermits. (Resort cities are miserable on holidays. It's like a sugar ant infestation with SUVs.) But since nobody ever gets all the illegal activity out of their system in one day, we're going down to the beach tonight for the fireworks people who didn't use all theirs up will be setting off over the ocean. Woo!

Update:
We ended up (illegally) watching Madagascar after dinner. I ended up saying to hell with making the fries and am going to make them today. And I didn't get to see the Lake Union firework show because I realized that walking to the end of Green Lake Park alone in the middle of the night wasn't the best idea. But it was still a great night!

Well it's not like I just sat there burning them on purpose. It was the fuses and the lighters.

Considering it's often cloudy and foggy there, I would guess probably not.
