As most of you know - piercing's a big thing of mine. I've been having a problem with the labret stud in my lip. I've had it for about 5 years and it's been rubbing on my lower gum causing a fair amount of recession.

I've recently heard of a piece of jewellry called a 'Fishtail'. From what I can gather it's very much like a spiral nostril stud only it doesn't curve around so much. The idea is that the stem lays below the gum line and doesn't rub as much.

So, I've had a good look around for a UK stockist of these - even my beloved Wildcat couldn't help me. sad.gif I was wondering if anyone here has any recommendations?

I'd be happy to use a US or European stockist if someone in the UK can vouch for their reliability.

Thanks guys.

Have you tried Blue Banana? I mean, in the piercing section they don't have anything called a 'Fishtail' but do have several spiral bars and such like. I'm pretty clueless on piercing so I'm not sure where they're supposed to go. It's just that Blue Banana specialises in piercing I think. I hope I was of any help. unsure.gif

Email Body Manipulations in San Francisco. If they don't do it then it probably doesn't exist in the body manipulation world!

When I had an unusual surface piercing that no-one in the UK had anything to properly fit I went in there and they had them right in the counter. 'Give 'em a try.

Have you tried using a flat plastic stud on the inside? I've not had a labret piercing, so I might be talking poppy cock.

My dentist advised that even a plastic stem would cause the same problem. I played around and put a ring in last night but I don't like the way it looks on me. Also - Forever Unknown has a ring and I know she has the same sort of problem.

I've found a Fishtail on one site but it is a US site and I've encountered problems with ordering from the US before, so Im loath to try anyone who isn't highly recommended.

Body Manipulations have been around for ages, I've had things from them before and they did a scarification on a friend of mine. Whether they do mail order is another question, but if they don't I expect they might be able to recommend someone who does.

I realise this may be a stupid question, but is there any reason why you couldn't get a fishtail nose stud of the appropriate size and put it in your lip?

Because they tend to spiral a little too far - therefore it's likely to press on the inside of my gum.

I spoke to a guy today - he seems to think that the whole 'fishtail' thing is a marketing idea that the USA came up with. He has seen nose spirals that are at a right angle and may well work for me. Here's hoping,

This is true, although I think it's done all the damage it can at this point, and my dentist hasn't told me off for it (mostly because he found other things to tell me off about - I'm sure he'll get 'round to it).

But in normal circumstances, it doesn't press against my teeth at all. My main problem is that it's not a proper lip ring, just a bastardised ball closure ring, so that mightn't help - it's more 'scrapey'. It leaves an interesting indent on your lip, though...

I've heard that the only way to avoid getting tooth damage from lip piercings is to get a vertical labret - goes through the actual lip only, no bits of metal exposed on the inside. Very pretty they are, too. No point telling you all this, as you're already all pierced up. But, there youse go.

Nothing at all of use is contained in this post.

I had a look at that and it is OBSCENELY overpriced for a fishtail labret. $34.99? You've got to be kidding!

Yeah, but bear in mind the US dollar is really weak against the pound at the moment, which makes buying in the States fantabulous. So that'd be less that 20.00. Still costly, but could be worth it.

I did take that into account. Bearing in mind you'll pay about 3.00 for a labret I'm loath to spend 20 on something that may just be that price because they're marketing it that way.

I'm determined to find a UK stockist. Well, kind of...

*sigh* Damn I'm feeling lazy I'll do it later. biggrin.gif

I went to the dentist not long ago (first time in ages) and he told me I'd have to take it out. Also, isn't it unnerving when they and their assistant leave the room when they x-ray your mouth? I was half thinking "HEY! come back! If I can't leave the room to, no one can!!" *mutter* Sorry, off topic, I have nothing worth while saying, just felt like posting really... unsure.gif

They did that all three times I broke my arm too.

My dentist was worried at first about my lip stud, but apparently it's caused no problems at all. Which is spiffy.

Not really sure what you should do about the lip stud, but hopefully you'll find a decent UK shipper. Jewelry gets more expensive all the time, unfortunately. sad.gif Hope you can find a nice stud for a reasonable price!

Mata: What sort of "unusual surface piercing" did you have? Satisfy my random curiosity, please! By the way (I am utterly off topic now) does Sues post on here at all?

Lower abdomen. Very low on the abdomen.

Sues has very occasionally posted on here using my account, but probably only two or three times. Usually after a few glasses of wine if I recall correctly.
