I know what you mean about not being the type of artist that the exams are looking for. I had that problem pretty much all the way through my education. I taught myself to use Photoshop about twelve years ago, and was then told by my 'teachers' that 'you cannot make artwork on computers' (meaning that art was impossible on computers, not that they would not let me do it). I made sure that they saw a copy of The Guardian when they wrote a good review of my webart site

I think one of the main reasons that my art teachers didn't like me was because whenever they suggested anything, I always seemed to do the opposite.
It wasn't intentional, but I think that years of being a "difficult" and stubborn child has somehow made it that way.
And also because I'm new to this school (as my old school doesn't have a 6th form centre so I had to go there) and my old art teacher had a very very different approach to things. I.e she would encourage my ideas and not try to enforce her own upon me.
Or I'm just a crap artist
