We have our new God

I'm torn between thinking that is the coolest kid in the world and the most shafted.

What's next, Yahoo-Giles? AOL-Reece?

Madness.

All I know is that I must make a pilgrimage to his home and sing his praises.

*blinks* Now if I ever have a child, I can name it some cool obscure Celtic name and not feel guilty. It's a crazy idea, but I can't help thinking that it's somewhat cool in a demented way. His parents sound obsessed with Google to a very unhealthy degree. Why on earth do they love a search engine enough to name their poor child after it? blink.gif

Reminds me of what some couple did - put their child's name up for auction to see what company would pay to have the kid named after them. Nobody bid...

That's scary. All that about him not getting mocked because he can use Google to make friends around the world...that's making it even worse in a peer-thinking "He uses computers lots...geek" way. I just feel sorry for the poor thing. Some people have no sense.

It's possible he'll have a bit of a minor celebrity status, so that might help him along in life. I'm a bit surprised that Google haven't donated a year's worth of nappies, or something like that.

Ok.. call me freaky.. but I see no issue with this at all. I can't say i would have done the same. But times move on.. the style of names changes. So someone wants to name a kid after a search engine. Is that any different from people naming kids of film characters, or after characters in books. It's odd maybe.. but in the grand scheme of things it's not THAT bad.
I suffer with the name David.. 5th most common name in the UK. I deal with everytime someone calling out "Dave!" 15 people turning their heads around wondering who called them. I'd love to have a unique name that no one else had heard. Maybe because I'm resistent to people making fun of me or whatever. But more and more exotic names are turning up as time moves on and people being less and less traditional with their naming.
All power to that couple for making the leap with a weird name I say. If I ever ended up in a naming a son/daughter of mine and my partner suggested a middle name or even a first name like 'Squeak ' or something I'd smile so hard.. but that's me.... biggrin.gif

I'm waiting for a person to be officially called 'Matazone'.

As far as a I know, in official respects it is an entirely fictional name. biggrin.gif

EDIT: while making this topic it's jumped to 294,913 posts.
