So I've been bartending for some while now (about and year and a half). But it's seems I've gotten into a bit of a rut when it comes to making shots & ect. You see people come up to the bar and ask for something thats good, and I have to make it. But It seems I give out the same sort of stuff most of time. So how about some ideas from you guys.

My fav. shots that I tend to always give out:
Chocolate Martini shot (vodka & creme de cacao or chocolate liquer)
Bazooka Joe (baileys, blue caraco, banana liquer)
Sicilian Kiss (Ameretto, Southern Comfort)
China White (creme de cacao, baileys, cinnamon)

Drop shots:
Gladiator (shot of southern & ameretto, with orange juice & sprite)
Jager Bomb (shot of Jagermeister, with red bull)
Broken Down Golf Cart (Shot of Ameretto & melon liquer, with cranberry juice and sprite)

I used to make a Fuzzy Green Bastard. vodka, run, blue curacao and orange juice. Turns your poo green if you drink a skinful of it.

[Jonman Industries advocates drinking sensibly. Stopping drinking is usually a good idea if your poo turns an unusual colour.]

I tend to make my parents alot of long island iced teas. theres a couple other things too but I cant think of any of it at the moment.

To become a bartender you didnt have to take a class or something on different kinds of drinks? I was always told you had to know that stuff

You could always invest in a coctail book, some can be pretty cheap and they have a nice selection of coctails and how to make them, sometimes even suggestions for garnishes. They're rather nice.

I've just started bartending and we have a booklet of shots that we can make. Its mostlyh an old man pub with ales and things but we occationally get the odd lad's night out.

Theres a cool one which is red at the bottom with vodka making a middle layer, and this creamy drink, similar to bailiys that you add over a spoon and it forms a brain shape, even a little bit of cream sinks to the red making a long spine bit. It rocks!

Yes and no. I Havent taken the bartender course because it's like $600 and rather pointless. Usually guys have to take it to get into the industry, where as girls start off waitressing and progress into bartending. Plus its alot easier to get a bartending job with experience compared to the course. And I've seen alot of the bartenders hired with only the course who have no clue what they are doing. For instance one guy made a Ceaser and didn't rim the glass, with no Tabasco and a lemon instead of a lime.

That and most bars have there own variation on drinks. For example at the club I work at we make Porn Stars with Raspberry Sour Puss, Parfait Amour, Sprite and Cranberry Juice. Where as the Pub I work at makes it with Blue Curacao instead of Parfait Amour, and some bars dont add the Cranberry juice.
And as for the drink list books, yes I have one that I use to find obscure drinks that people order. But it doesn't have most of the "hip and happening" shots. Plus it's hard to know if a drink is really good by only reading the ingredients. A couple of nights ago I made some Chocolate cake shots that were listed in the book and sounded pretty good, but they weren't that great (I suppose I should have guessed so with logic. I mean who puts lemon on cake?)

I remember making some of those once. It was called ermm chicken fetus in a testube or something along those lines. It was pretty good. The grenadine gives it a nice sweetness. I was trying to remember how to make this one. Thanks.

The Fuzzy Green Bastard sounds pretty good. Now is this a drink shaken on ice and then poured out? or is it a floater shot?

This also sounds really good. I've always made a french kiss with bailey's and ameretto.
