I've bounced around a bunch of jobs over the last several years. I've done carpentry off and on since I was thirteen, washed dishes, worked retail, detailed cars, changed oil, laid tile and did landscaping. I'm the king of blue collar jobs. The thing is that none of these jobs made any descent amount of money.

Recently, however, I got a gig with a gas company laying pipe, meaning I dig trenches, put down tubing, wire and caution tape and then cover it back up. I know it doesn't sound much better, except for one little fact: I haven't been hired as an employee. Instead, I've been hired as a subcontractor. Essentially, this means that I'm getting paid for that job and not as an employee of the gas company. In this case, I am being paid two dollars per foot of pipe I lay. I know this doesn't sound like much, but I can knock out ten feet in a matter of minutes.

This gig is very impartant to me because I've been having a lot of financial problems over the last few . This job is easily lucrative. I can make in a day or two what I'm used to making in a week. This, combined with money from another job I did in late December, will be enough to begin to get me on my feet (at least in some respects).

I started today and dug until my hands were raw and my back hurt. I hit a few setbacks (I didn't know sand could get that hard), but all-in-all it went very well. Lord willing, I'll make a nice amount to cover my expenses with plenty to put away.

Be proud of me, y'all. I sure as Hell am.

Congratulations Ri, I'm glad that good things are coming your way. You've worked hard to get to where you are now so you deserve to do well.

Actually, I find sometimes there's nothing quite as rewarding as good, honest graft. For me, there's just something uniquely satisfying about it.

Anyway, nice one Righteous.

Congrats Ri and I hope you can get some money saved up, I know how hard that can be when you work jobs that pay you next to nothing.

For some reason I always found labor to be easier than sitting somewhere and trying to do something. I guess I just need to move around alot.

Definate congrats! Try not to work too hard tongue.gif

Congratulations, Ri! Best of luck with saving money from the new job. Sounds like you deserve it. smile.gif
(Where'd you get the quotes, bryden? Did Ri edit before I saw or are they from another thread or something?)

Hee hee. I found out that there are quite a few houses in the are that need pipe installed and since I'm one of the few people daft enought to do this job, I get my pick.

The dirt they got to sculpt the land was rocky and had clay in it, as opposed to the costal Florida sand I'm used to digging. Because of this, my hands were torn to shreds and my body is sore as Hell. Because of this, I've had to push my next job back to Sunday.

EDIT: Those quotes weren't from me. I'd never say I'm "not smart but work hard" (though I will say that I don't know much, but I know what I know) and I'd remove my own apendix before joining the Marines.

*

They were from another post in this thread that has been deleted...presumably by the person who wrote it cause it wasn't inappropriate or anything. *shrugs* It was there the night the thread was posted (I saw it, honest!)...then mysteriously gone in the morning ohmy.gif
