I already posted this on my livejournal, but I will do so again here... Yay for anti-valentines! hehehe...

I don't think I'd mind the holiday so much if more people were original and didn't just buy chocolate or little teddy bears holding hearts...

I do hope those of you who find it meaningful have a fun day, though. I just don't get all the bother about it. tongue.gif

Aw sure, it's an overcommercialized sham perpetuated by heartless corperations in need of a mid-winter sales pitch, but I'll take the hug. biggrin.gif *huggums all around*

Come now, it's wonderful to be single on Valentine's. Personally I'm relieved.
1) You don't need to spend money on fuzzy/sugary crud!
2) You don't need to wonder if you're getting something and are therefore tangentially expected to act in like; or if you do something and the other person doesn't, won't that be awkward too? Gah!
3) Capitalist pig-dogs!!
4) Stupid mooshy blegh blegh blegh.

Yes, I know, I'm horrible. tongue.gif

pfft.. valentines is all about being orginal with your love.. here are some grand ways.

A card with "Our love is is like honey glazed ham, pink salt and unclean in the eyes of the lord" (thank you diesal sweeties).

Or or.. sends cards with real human hearts on them! Or a pig heart in a box!

Or maybe "I want you for your brainz" with a photoshopped pic of yourself as a zombie".

Or some white flowers with a note saying "in Japan.. white flowers signify death!" with a smiley face.

Stalk their house, and photograph them through the window, and put it on a card saying, "you know, you're hot naked too!"

see, keep them guessing what you're gonna do next, that's the key to romance.

I'm not single, and I don't have to do any of that stuff! But then, I've also had extensive conversations with my boyfriend about how much we both hate the holiday. So it's pretty much expected that we aren't getting each other anything (plus it's just 4 days before his birthday). He gave me an anti-valentine that makes fun of Valentine's Day to make me laugh, though...but no money was spent on it.

I don't like the holiday. It's supposed to be a celebration of love, which would be great. However the majority of it doesn't strike me as being about love at all. Love does not amount to screwing someone because they gave you the same chocolates that 29348234 other people got for their SO's as well. It's crass, commercial, and pretty much everything that is the opposite of love.

I will say that if the day reminds you to do something nice and unexpected for the people you love, then that's great. Even better if you're original about it. But if it's just expected that you do it and becomes an obligation (as it seems to with a lot of couples)...then I say bah humbug.

All the same, hugs are still good, so I'll agree with that. biggrin.gif

I got a giant bag of suckers for my friends to fight over at lunch a dentist appointment!

Also, I owe my friends $1 each if I get a valentine from a guy and vise-versa. For some strange reason Valentine's days is a huge deal at our school....

I'm using it as an excuse to give Sarah this watch, and just to do what we usually do anyway, and that's pretty much just sit around, chat and the like.

Also it's a good excuse to bake cookies and say screw the commercial stuff biggrin.gif

A plus on the cookie-baking, Spoon! I'm trying out croissants as of an hour ago, meaning that I'm two steps away from becoming David Sedaris's crazy sister who rolls out pastries at four in the morning. The results will be fun to try and compare to actual croissants, though.

Personally, I consider Valentine's to be quite fun, though I am "single". I make odd faces at my friends until they give me candy and follow my tradition of buying two of the most trashy magazines ever made. If nothing else, it's an excuse to relax and eat awful things and make fun of overly couply couples. So let's all hug.

Also, candice? I can't seem to follow your link. Alas!

Oh noes! It's just an e-card that says "Happy unimaginative, consumer-oriented, entirely arbitrary, manipulative and shallow interpretation of romance day!"

It made me giggle. >_>

:Goes against the grain:
I love Valentines Day, My boy and me don't get to spend really any time together. And valentines day just seems like a good excuse for both of us to give up work and go out for the evening, Some how it sort of makes up for the 3 weeks we haven't seen each other before it.
And it also makes us feel special about each other, I'm not going to lie. It feels good to get gifts that someone has really put the thought in making special for me.

Well, that's good then. smile.gif Like I said, if it's special to you then that's great. I don't think I could ever think it was really special, though. But that's just me. I am weird about romance sometimes. I understand that other people like it....I just find it to be a bit too commercial and hate when it becomes an obligation rather than something that's being done purely out of love.

I really am not bitter about Valentine's Day...honest! unsure.gif

Anyway, I have explianed to the recipitent and sent it to the person it was meant to be sent to, and yes, I'm still waiting for a response.

A bunch of my friends and I made a birthday cake (it was my room mate's birthday on the 13th) made of strawberry cake marbled into chocolate cake.

Later we're going to the diner on campus to celebrate, 'cause that's what holidays are for happy.gif
