Lent is nearly here (Wednesday, as I was so kindly infomred by Cand and Cath wink.gif ).

So, I'm just wondering what you all are going to give up, if you've given it consideration. How sucessful you've been in the past with lent?

Me? - well I'm going to try and give up everything that contains dairy milk. -I've noticed that I just don't get flemy when I don't drink any cow's milk at all, and I was born with a fairly harsh lactose interance. So, I want to give it a good try and see how I feel after the 40 days. Chocolate... Well, I figure if I get dark chocolate, it'll contain less milk. I think. Hmm. We'll see.

Let us know how it goes. Or if you have any anecdotes.

/me does happy dance, just coz

Proper dark chocolate doesn't contain any milk.

Good luck.

I've never given up anything and I don't plan on it this year... I'm rubbish at stuff like this!

hehe didn't you try to give up IRC last year? ph34r.gif it's a good thing you didn't!

I do Passover and don't eat bread products for a week, so I don't do anything for Lent.

I've tried to give stuff up before, and I can usually do it, but it's an annoying bother. Fortunately, my religion doesn't actually require it.

Well, nor does mine but I kinda just thought I 'd join in and see how it goes. I gave up smoking (though I've had eight since) on Christmas Eve. It was a week before New Year's, but I thought I'd give it up a bit early, so I'd have a week before the pressure was on. I guess my mum will give someting up, and might encourage my siblings to give up something. Or at least have a try.

I use to love giving something up for lent. Now I dont see the point....
Once I did a very good job at giving up most tv tongue.gif

Then I let myself see one show a day.... because, sadly, the TV is always on in my house....

I love lent!

I'm not Christian, but I dunno....it's something about just seeing if I can give up whatever for that long. It's a challenge. You probably aren't supposed to like it, are you? unsure.gif

I guess it's still just kind of novel to me because the first year I ever did it was last year. And I kind of like looking at customs and stuff from other religions...it interests me.

Anyway, this year I am giving up swearing! I can totally do it, I'm determined. But right now I am swearing lots and lots cause I'm pretty angry. Hopefully that'll be out of my system by Wednesday. I am gonna swear while making myself pancakes tomorrow, I think...oooh if only I had some of those pancake molds where you can make little letters out of them! That'd be festive.

I've got a tough one this year. I'm giving halves, mixers and singles. My liver is going to be severely punished.

Healthy living.

I shall live off a diet consisting entirely of vodka and lentils.

If you don't hear from me by Easter then my bowels have fermented into a WMD.

I don't believe in all this lent business but I feel compelled to give up something, it's only fair after eating so many pancakes. I've decided to give up being shy, so I'm going to just talk to people who seem friendly enough when they haven't got anyone to talk to at the train station and try and meet at least one new person a week.

Worry not, the government will come and take you away so they can use that WMD to blow up something that might be a threat. ph34r.gif

That doesn't count. tongue.gif And it also worries me since your quit message in IRC involves something about peeing from vaginas. *hands you an anatomy book*

I've been experimenting with a kind of stupid form of Zen as of late, and Lent coincided nicely, so I've given up hot showers. It's almost peaceful once you get past the stinging pain, and it means that I'm not all pissed at the freezing air upon getting out, which is how it usually is.

No hot showers?! IN MARCH?!

Crazy woman. blink.gif Maybe I will try to take less scalding showers next Lent when I am in somewhere that is ever so slightly less constantly freezing. I think the most I could do would be to give up really hot showers, though. I could maaaybe go to lukewarm ones. Maybe.

Gah, lukewarm showers are terrible. It's like a cold shower that's taunting you with its hints at warmth. In my opinion if a shower isn't painfully hot you're not really getting clean.

I ate (virtually) my own body weight in pancakes on Tuesday (and would again given half a chance! laugh.gif) so I guess I'm giving up unhealthy eating? I'm back on my diet again so I can get back to my ideal weight by....er....no later than my 30th. I want to look uber fab on my birthday biggrin.gif

I'm not a Christian but I can't disagree with giving up something that's bad for ya smile.gif

I've decided that I'll give up chocolate. I considered caffiene but then, when I stopped laughing, gave up the idea of giving that up.

Wish me luck.

I'm not actually giving it up but I am "significantly reducing my intake" of caffine. So no coffee, tea, coke etc... I'm allowing myself chocolate in moderation and anything that blatently doesn't contain loads of caffine.

I'm doing ok so far smile.gif

I'm attempting to give up not receiving large amounts of money from strangers, but it's not doing too well.

In the past I have also tried giving up not getting free stuff in shops, and not getting good grades without doing work, they haven't been to successful either.
